Losingit's losing it journey

Good luck with the fat fast - really hope you can break through this barrier...would have driven me nuts if my weight had stopped shifting for that long!

1000 cals seems awfully little to me these days, but I guess compared to VLCD, or 5:2 fasting days, it's almost generous, lol!

Will be very interested to see how you get on :)

Also found this, it's in relation to 5:2 but has some nice recipes for under 200 cals

They wouldn't work for the fat fast Susie, it's 1000 calories per day of which 90 percent has to be pure fat. Dr Atkins recommends something like 5 1oz portions of macademia nuts or 5 1oz portions of cream cheese, or 5 tbsp double cream - and that's it for your day. It's not healthy at all, contains nearly no nutrition and is dangerously low on protein BUT for 3-5 days it won't kill you and it's impossible not to lose on it. The problem people can have is with the weight bouncing back on when they go back to regular induction eating (as could also happen switching back from a vlcd) and with the restriction being so great that they end up cheating/binging.

I tried it about 2 years ago, twice. Felt terrible after the second day and did end up falling off the wagon, so it's not something I'd do again - for me eating 1500 calories at 75% fat works just as well for a good loss. But some people do find the fat fast worth it as a brief occasional thing - Atkins says to only do it after a 6 week stall. Basically if you can lose weight any other way then that's preferable.

Here is what i've eaten today:

Breakfast: 40ml extra thick double cream

Lunch: 35g full fat soft cheese, 75g mature cheddar, little bit of spring onion less than 2g just to flavour the cheese

Dinner: 40g salami
also, had a bit of almond milk in my coffee, no more than 12 calories total all day.

Still got some calories left, around 200 cals, going to have egg mayonnaise, one egg with lots of mayo. I spaced all my food out pretty good, i think the key is in not eating your whole allowance at once, little and often and i've not yet felt hungry. Can't get the pie chart on mfp which is annoying but i'm pretty sure my fat ratios are way up there, mfp is saying i had 2g carbs, 67g fat, 31g protein

They don't have a pie chart on the web browser for some reason - it is worth checking on your phone as soon as you can though. My maths isn't good enough to work out the percentages from the grams although I'm sure it's doable. The good thing is that the mega high fat levels definitely kill hunger.

i can only get the pie chart up on my iPad, cant get it on iPhone, so would be interested to see how you get it on there x

On iPhone go to your diary, go to home, go to daily then in the blue nutrient details bar there's a picture of a pie chart - click on that.

Had a look at the pie chart for yesterday and i was at 84% fat, 15% protein and 1% carb. I really thought my fat would have been higher, can't believe i'm still under on fat! Having said that it was good enough, and my calories were 984 which i'm pretty proud of. The only time i found difficult was last night when i'd normally be having a snack but i got through it.

Scales this morning : 14 stone 6.6lbs ! I'm very shocked! Even when i have some ketosis/water weight to lose i've gotten used to 1lb a week and here i am losing almost 3 lbs in 24 hours.

Thanks for posting about your fat fast losingit, I am starting a 5 day fat fast today. Scales just haven't budged for a month. Fingers crossed. Well done on the loss so far.

Good luck on your fat fast, let me know how it goes.

Day 2 meals:

- 40ml double cream
- 40g soft cheese, 25g cheddar
- boiled egg & 15g mayonnaise
- 45g soft cheese, 25g cheddar again
- 40ml double cream
- 2 cups coffee with almond milk

Total calories = 1001
Fat = 88%
Carbs = 2%
Protein = 10%

Managed to raise my fat level to 88% today, not been easy. I have missed eating food today, it's been quite hard. I haven't felt ravenously hungry or anything though, nothing more than mild hunger which has surprised me even though i'm not new to ketosis. My body feels as though it is very deep in ketosis compared to normal Atkins. Wondering if the fat fast really does lose any real weight or if it just pushes the water losses to a new level due to having next to no carbs. Well, i suppose on only 1000 calories a day some fat must be lost.... 3500cals =1lbs fat, calorie deficit over 3 days = at least 3000cals so probably 1lb real fat burnt.

I'll see how i feel tomorrow, but i might stick it out for 5 days instead of 3.

You really have to ditch the protein to get fat levels low enough, don't you. I guess that's why his recommendation is just cream cheese and macademias and not much of those. It's supposed to be faster than a vlcd for weight loss but as its so vastly unhealthy it's not a marketable diet. Some of the loss is definitely fat though - I think on average people say they lose about 6lbs then bounce up a couple of lbs the week after? Well done sticking it out.

My weight today is 14stone 4.8lbs
Two days ago i was 14 stone 9.2lbs

Dropped 4.4lbs in 2 days :). It's lovely seeing a lower number on the scales!

moonlights, yes, to get the target 90% fat you really can't eat much at all outside of cream, cheese, nuts (haven't got any nuts, might go shopping for some today).

Oh well done, you broke the stall...I will keep this in mind for the future, but I would imagine you would have to be well in ketosis to do it.

Day 3 almost over, today i only managed 81% fat. I had a couple of spoons of Tahini for a different flavour, whilst high in fat it is also high in protein. Still, 81% isn't too bad.

Today's menu:

breakfast - 50g cheese
lunch - 20g tahini, 45g soft cheese
dinner - 70g soft cheese, 30ml double cream
snacks - 50g cheese, almond milk in coffee

total calories 946, fat 81%, protein 15%, carbs 3%

It seems near impossible to get 90% fat unless i drink cream all day! Did try to get some macadamia nuts today but the specialist nut shop didn't have any, so i guess i'm off to Tesco tomorrow to hunt some down.

Weight this morning: 14stone 3.8lbs

Lost a total of 5.2lbs in 3 days. 2 more days to go.

Struggling today, already ate my 1000 calorie allowance and i'm craving real food. Got to get through another 5 or 6 hours then i can go to bed. Then it will only be one more day to go.

I think i must have been eating 4000 calories a day before, and high protein rather than high fat, might be why i stalled, it was simply too much food and i was eating emotionally and out of habit rather than eating because i was hungry. Once i finish the fat fast i'm going to try and reign in the eating and restrict it to when i'm hungry only, hungry but not too hungry that it gets out of hand.
