Lots of new members - shall we do an intro thread?

Just registered

Hi Everyone
I just registered and thought I say a quick hello! I stumbled accross this site today at work, and am already feeling really inspired by some of the stuff I read. I started LL almost 3 weeks ago (will have my weigh in tomorrow) and so far am really pleased with my loss. I do find it hard at times (especially evenings) but am determined to see it through. I will be off to bed in a sec but look forward to posting and reading the threads. I think the support on here is great!

Hi everyone

I have been lurking on this fantastic site for a while and thought it was time to say hello and thanks to all the inspirational LLifer's and others for posting such motivating, informative posts.
I have read and am following so many blogs and threads that give me knowledge and motivation that I hardly leave the laptop..no time to check the fridge contents to see if they've changed since I last looked! :) Actually, I don't do that anymore since starting LL on April 12th. Loving every moment of this "golden time" as someone called it and the weight loss!!! It's hardly believable!!

Back to the threads..if I don't post, I'm still reading.

Bye for now :wavey:

Congrats on joining - on here everyone will keep you going!

Congrats on lasting so far.

Hello all!

I've been browsing this forum for the past couple of days since I saw it recommended by Yorkie Girl on Mums Net.

My name is Ann-Marie, I am 32, mum to 2 boys aged 10 and 4 and I am a yo-yo-dieter.

I've been on a permanant "on-a-diet-off-a-diet" diet since November 1997 when I weighed 11st 5lbs. Ten wasted years later I weigh 13st 13lbs and my eating habits are out of control.

In those ten years I have been calorie counting...binge eating....then weight watchers....back to binge eating....then slimming world....then binge eating again.....back to calorie counting.....(get the picture?) The only reason I am not ten stone heavier than I am is because that is the cycle, lose seven pounds, only to put nine pounds back on again.

I'm the second fattest person in my office however am soon catching up to the fattest person (that sounds awful doesnt it).

My eating habits have been worse than ever over the past two years since I started the job I am in now. I have put on 2st 10lbs (38lbs) in those 24 months and am horrified.

I desperately want to start eating normally and believe me any weight loss will just be an added boost. I want to be able to finish when I am full, not over-eat, not be thinking about food all the time.

I had my intro on Thursday, got my forms signed by the GP tomorrow and I'm starting on Tuesday 19th at 7:00pm, and my first thought was "Right, I'm going to blow out between now and then" - WHY?? I could easily put on another 3-4lbs if I do that. So I'm aiming to be the same on Tuesday, as I was when she weighed me on Thursday. Trouble is, I have no idea how to eat normally!!!

Hi, joined last night after spending ages reading everybody's stories but have to get used to making my own contributions.

I have been fat for 56 years (I was a big baby!) and my earliest memories of dieting are getting off the school bus feeling faint and dizzy because I was on a diet. I must have been about 13 then.

Remember being about 13 stone after by second son was born 33 years ago and feeling enormous, I crash dieted to 9 stone but that soon crept back and some more. Every diet added a bit more, especially when I used stopping smoking as an excuse. But that was 18 years ago so I can't keep blaming it on that. How I would love to be 13 stone again but I am now 16st 7lb and 5ft 5in and as I get older I can really feel it affecting my health.

I know what I should and shouldn't eat and that too many carbs make me feel ill but I just can't control it.

I have been to the LL intro and am going to get the medical organised with another doctor as it is not the policy of my GP's practice to do them. You would think that the medical profession would realise by now that their advice on dieting, while being very good and sensible in theory, just doesn't work for people like me. They need to think outside the box and help us instead of harping on about how obese the population is nowadays.

OK, that's the soapbox bit over with and anyway, this time it will be different for me. Usually, before I start a diet I eat anything and everything to make sure I have fully indulged myself in preparation for the deprivation to follow but this time I am practising drinking lots of water but no wine or G&Ts (big :sigh: ).

I think visiting this site is going to help me enormously and I am really looking forward to getting started.

I am off now to work out how to set up a measuring thingy for the bottom of future posts - after I've had another glass of water of course!

Hi Ann-Marie and welcome to Minimins :D

A lot of us will be able to associate with your experiences of weight gain and loss. Me for one definitely.

You sound like you are well on with your planning and sensible thoughts about not having a "blow out" before.

You will find this community very supportive and encouraging of everyone and I hope you're having a chance to look around. We have so many subjects on the go and plenty of laughs along the way, as well as tears.:)

Welcome again and looking forward to reading about your weight loss journey and achievements,

Isis :D

Hi Faylolo and welcome to the site :D

Sounds like you're head is definitely in the right gear for your start and practising drinking more water is definitely the key I think.

It's nice to see that you feel visiting here is going to help enormously and we are all looking forward to getting to know you better and cheering you on. :)

Hello - Week 2

Hi All
I have been on Lighterlife for 2 weeks and so far so good - lost just less than a stone (i think .... according to my scales - weigh in tomorrow). I have found it quite good so far and have to say i am loving drinking the water (no really!!!) and the milkshakes. i have to say that i am having cravings - for salad would you believe!! i keep looking at iceberg lettuce which is 15 cal per 100g and wonder if it would be really bad to have some - i know its the slippery slope however i just feel like i need to crunch something!! any advice from anyone who has been there??????

thanks
Jo:confused:

Christina, I wanted to join LL. But my Dr. said 'No'. Did you manage to get your Dr. to agree eventually ? And if so, how ?
What were the magic words ? I'd be really grateful to know as
I want to see him again to see if I can get him to change his mind. I really want to do LL.

Hello started lighterlife 13/06/07

HI everyone

I started Lighter Life on the 6th May 2007 and so far I have lost 32lbs. I am loving this plan!! I have about another 6 stone to go so will go into developing once I have completed foundation. I have also joined a gym

Hi, I'm sil and started LL 2 weeks ago, I could really do with lots of advice and support as finding it very tough psychologically atm.
Hope to get to know you all over the coming months

Hi I'm LollyPop and I'm starting LL on Monday. Kind of feels a bit early to be here but I'm quite nervous and excited... just hoping this is going to work for me. I have 9 stone to lose.:)

Hi

Hi I'm Jennie,

I started LL a week and a half ago, I've got 10st to lose so bring it on!!!!! (not the weight though lol)

:):)Hi! I'm Madam Mimm. I started LL last Wednesday night, so I have my first WI tomorrow night. I feel nervous & excited about it all at the same time. I definitely feel better already, although sometimes it's a bit of a struggle drinking all that water! I have been lucky in that I haven't really had any "withdrawal symptoms" as such. I felt a bit grumpy last night, so went to bed early & read a few extra chapters of Harry Potter. I'm so glad I found this site. It's full of advice, ideas & most importantly - encouragement! Good luck to everyone & I hope they achieve all they want to!

Totally Confused!

Hi everyone!
Sorry to post this here but couldnt see anywhere else.
Can someone explain to me what this LL (Lighter Life) I think is please?
Also what is this form that needs to be signed by a GP?

Sorry to be a pain but I'm confused!

Hi kazisindahouse,

The LighterLife Programme
What Is LighterLife?
LighterLife is a unique weight management programme for those who have a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 29 (roughly 3 stone or more overweight). Calculate your BMI

Most people know how to lose weight; eat less and burn off more calories, but sometimes it's not that easy. LighterLife understands how difficult it can be and has put in place a medically monitored Programme that makes reaching a healthier weight as simple as possible.

Weight Loss Programme
The Programme uses a combination of nutritionally complete Foodpacks and specialised counselling techniques including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA).

Working in small, single sex groups, LighterLife's fully trained Counsellors help you to examine the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that have lead to being overweight.

Simultaneously, you will use LighterLife's nutritionally complete Foodpacks to break the cycle of overeating and allow you to lose your excess weight quickly (typically around one stone per month) and safely whilst ensuring that you receive all the vital nutrients you need to stay fit and healthy.

It is a consent form that you need your GP to sign as to make sure you have no medical problems that would be contradictive with doing a very low calorie diet.

Oops, just noticed this

I'm Sarah, 35, and am Mum to 2 boys aged 11 and 3. We live in sunny Blackpool, in Lancashire.

I have now started LL, and lost 8lbs in my first 4 days on the plan.

I'm not sure what my goal is, but I think I'd like to lose between 8 and 10 stones
