metformin questions

Do you have the slow release perperation? If not try asking your GP for them. I took the normal ones for a while and they made me feel awful but now I'm on slow release I'm fine with them :)

Ok so I've had PCOS for 30 years and not one Doctor has said anything about Metformin? So, do they work and what's the most has anyone lost on them? Someone said on here they actually put on weight with them. Is that a normal occurrence with these pills? Sorry so many questions but really interested in your options as will chomp it over with the Docs next time.

Hey ladies just wanted to give a quick update:
I took one tablet a day for a week and had no side effects except a light queasy feeling in the morning / late at night. For the first day of taking two tablets I did suffer with a bad tummy for one night, but since then I have been fine. I keep thinking this can't be right as I've heard they don't agree with a lot of people, but so far so good.
I have noticed a big difference in my appetite / cravings. I actually feel satisfied after eating and have a 'full' feeling which just wasn't there before. I can easily go between meals without snacking, whereas before I could easily have eaten all day if there was food in front of me!
I haven't actually changed my diet as I'm waiting on an appointment to see a dietician (I thought I'd keep it simple and wait!) but I am eating less without trying, which is fab.
Just need to get a plan of action from the dietician now and I know I'll be on a real weight loss journey!

PCOS SPECIALIST?
I have had this for over 8 years or so and I am on 2x500mg of metformin. The last time I saw someone was when I was diagnosed. I don't think mine are helping with weight loss

As with all medications they work differently for people. I'm sure they are helping with my weight loss although I have also seen posts from people saying they have no effect or make them gain. I would say they are worth trying...talk to your GP...if you don't give them a go you will never know if they will help ;)

That is great! Sounds like you and I are both getting the same effects from them :) I went to a clinic last week (not the specialist PCOS one I thought it was) and they have now referred me on to the PCOS clinic where I can see a specialist and a dietician :) Was really happy as the doctor and the consultant I saw both said I was doing really well with my weight loss :D

Hi
After my 1st son was born I was diagnosed with pcos, we tried for 8 years for our next baby my DR put me on metformin & within 4 months I was pregnant I couldnt believe it be warned though I then fell pregnant straight after with baby number 3 then when baby no 3 was 2 month old found out I was pregnant wih baby number 4 the day my partner was in for the snip lol
Apparently if you ve had problems concieving your body can go into overdrive at least thats what my midwife said I only wish she had said it earlier..... not that I would change anything but 3 children under 2 was very hard work a longer gap would of been nice lol

Good luck to all you trying I was also doing a wierd diet called vitaline or vitalife at the time which was recommended for people with pcos.
