o/t star week - a question for the girls

The Mirena coil is a constant release of progesterone. It can last for 5 years. You have very little, if any, bleeding at all but like with the mini pill you can get the symptoms like sore boobs and stomach ache.

It's worth a try, but I do agree I think we all need a break from these hormones!

Hj Betty, don't forget that losing weight can buger your monthly's up as well!
I was regular as clockwork til I started SW and then the gaps between my periods got bigger! Last time there was a gap of 6 weeks!

mmm interesting, Think i'm defo going to have a break lol, and come to mention it princessria years ago when i was on the pill i got a bit hairier, then i got less hairier and wondered why, must have been coming off that pill.

Ha the things us ladies have to go through :( is there a man implant or pill lol x

Have you thought of the mirena coil? Might be worth discussing. I agree with the others, i would check in with your GP again. Good luck! Tracey x

I also meant to say, i don't know if it is just coincidence but my cousin in law had the implant, then got it removed and ended up with ovarian cysts, she was in agony with them x

From all the research that has been carried out on Implanon (the real name for 'the implant'), it has shown that ovarian cysts can appear, but they disappear spontaneously and usually do not cause any complications or require surgery. It is not recommended for those who have had ovarian cysts before, but it is still a reliable method of contraception. Of all types of 'implant, IUD (Interuterine device) has the least risk of ovarian cysts developing.

Unfortunately I think this was an bad coincidence.

As for the other problems people are reporting, the implant is just another hormonal treatment and you should treat it as such. If you know you react badly to other prophylatics, it is likely you will have problems to Implanon too.

No idea what's happening with the OP - Implanon is still not particularly well understood either by GPs (lack of exposure) or clinicians (lack of long term data collection) - and I would recommend you contact a family planning clinic who are more specialised than a GP with this sort of thing.

Thanks for that paperclip, you are right about the lack of understanding from the gp side of things. My practice has 6 drs and only 1 of them was able to put it in . She also told me that my cousin wouldn't have got the cysts due to the implant:confused:.

Another random thing is that if anyone has a BMI greater than 35, the implant isn't recommended (not a large enough dose for body size/blood volume). Just thought I'd mention it in anyone's considering it.

Although there seems to be a lot of bad press surrounding Implanon, I have had it for 9 months or so now and it works fine for me. Really just depends on what your body is like - if you were on the pill, there's lots of options and you can change if you need something different - there's only one or two implants at the moment.

I did go to the family planning clinic and the correct name for the implant is etonogesterel implanon is just the brand although i'm not sure if it's off patent, it has loads of side effects abdominal pain being one of them irregular bleeding changeds in libido but these only happen in certain women , i think some women just don't work very well with depot contraceptives hormonal ones that is, all i know is it made me a hairy mary and the next time she mentions giving me anything with hormones i am going to ask to be sterilised!!

i wish it had worked for me it seemed like the perfect solution ;-(

I was offered the implant and refused it as did not like sound of it so had the depo provera injections for years and had to come off them as doc thought it might have been affecting my joints (later found out I had arthritis so nowt to do with injections) My hubby had the snip and we thought that would be it but omg my periods when they came back last feb were total nightmare again, every 2wks and heavy and sore and had put up with it for months till I demanded doc did something so got norethesterone tablets to help and now waiting for merina coil to be fitted and hope this helps as I can't stand much more and they won't do hysterectomy now and said I was too young.
Deffo go back to doc and get them to check you out and refere you to gynacologist to examine you to make sure no underlying probs like cysts. Good luck xx

Thanks for your replies guys, i am going to give it a few days then if nothing appears see gp again.

Hi hun, do you need to be on taking contraceptives or could you make do with condoms as it sounds like you need a break from all the hormones.

I can't really offer much advice as after having a salpingo-oophorectomy at 17 I can't use any hormone based contraceptive and am lucky if i get 2 periods a year, longest between periods so far was 14 months. If you are worried then talk to your doctor but weight and stress can affect your periods.

Grrr still no af! I am going to get another pregnancy test later and double check then if negative going to go to gp tomorow. I have been getting a crampy pain low down at both sides and i'm soooo tired, normally i can get up ok but i'm really struggling to get up. Got up at 8.30 this morning for son to be at school at 9. It s a good thing i was organised and had all his clothes ironed and bathed him last night and made his lunch etc.

Oh let us know the results asap and if it's a negative then get down that docs for your own piece of mind betty xxx

fingers crossed hon, i got back from docs yesterday and i have to have a coil fitted under a general because i haven had kids and it hurts too much grrrrrrr i might aswel just get bloody pregnant i might get seen by a doctor quicker

Will you let me know how it is when your coil is fitted because i think that is going to be my only option left.

Though.. i don't know if it is all the thinking about af not being here and having to do pregnancy tests but i've turned quite broody now. I was sure that after i had my daughter that that was it as i have a boy and a girl now and don't want another. I wanted to focus on losing weight and changing my career and doing stuff for myself. Now i am not so sure. I still want to lose the weight of course, oh i'm confused, all this is making me think about babies and being pregnant.

For all you mums of 3+ kids out there, is it hectic with 3 or do you all manage ok. If i had another it would mean converting the loft and a bigger car lol x
