Possum's LL Diary

I'm going to my first LL meeting this Thursday evening and will start on Friday. Later this morning I'm going to my GP to get my medical form signed - have no idea whether the doctor is going to be supportive or not, but I hope that's not going to be a problem.

I cycled from Greenwich to Richmond yesterday - 21.3 miles in one go without a break, plus another 7 miles on the way back (I got a train for some of it) and I feel slightly sad that will be the last time I can do that kind of distance for a while, but it'll be worth it! :) I tell you that doing that amount of exercise really puts calories from things like a big slice of cake into perspective! A chocolate caramel shortbread takes about an hour of cycling to burn off! I've written about my cycling in my other journal.

I hope your GP appointment goes well today. At first my GP wasn't supportive at all. If that's the case for you - give your LLC a ring and he/she will refer you to a GP that will sign off on it. Sometimes you have to pay. I think mine was £30. Anyway - good luck, i bet you can't wait!!

As for the cycling, you'll be able to increase gradually, but to start with you wont be able to do that kind of mileage ;(.

The doctor refused to sign it, but my LLC has arranged for me to see a locum doctor for £40. Quite annoyed and I'll be writing a letter to the practice about it!

It's really frustrating, my doctor has seen me time after time crying in his office over my weight and I was referred to a specialist at the local hospital once, which was pointless! Anyway he had nit heard of LL and saw the opportunity to get shut of me lol so signed. It didn't cost me anything either, but I know many who have had issues. They should understand you are saving them money and not sponging off the NHS for hospital appointments or diet pills, you can even get weightwatchers paid for you now, it's ridiculous!!!! Rant over, sorry xx

Paying is ridiculous like Ladyt said it would save the MHD money

I complained about my doctor. He sat there and told me "you're extremely overweight you need to lose some" yet refused to sign moments before. Ridiculous tbh.

Hope u get it sorted soon x

I'm sorry your doctor has been such a numpty about it :( Good news that you can get it sorted for £40 though. When it comes to your blood pressure checks you don't need to pay for them if you can find a pharmacy that offers checks for free... I get mine done at Asda pharmacy and they do it for free and fill in the little form (obviously they can't do the inital form though). Best of luck and I look forward to hearing about your weight loss journey x

Know what u mean about annoyoying gp's, I've been o erweight for ever, my gp refused to sign saying the practice does not agree witb it as there is no after support and all the weight will go back on!!! I tried to explain about the cbt but she would not budge, so i had to go private £60!!!
Have changed drs now and have lovely supportive nurse to do blood pressure checks.
It's my body!!!
Good luck with with your journey, everyone on here will be so supportive, itsa life line.
Jx

Just marking my place in your diary, as you talk alot of sense, and I feel you are going to very well once you start! :D

Hope you'll manage to get it sorted Hun. Def complain to the practice as it's completely out of order for them to charge that much!!!
I got it done for free and I'd refuse to pay. After all we're saving nhs a lot of money by preventing further health complications caused by our obesity!
To me it's a no brainer!

My surgery refused over the phone don't think they even new what it was for????

I went to a superdrug about 40 miles away and paid £40 for mine to be done!

Quite annoying because they don't know my medical history only what i am telling them!

Good luck x

Thank you everyone for your encouraging words :) Well, tomorrow is my first meeting and I'm feeling excited.

I got out my 'thin' clothes from storage last night and can't believe how tiny they look. They're all 12's really so not that tiny, but I thought I was so fat when I wore them. Good inspiration. There's a club night I'm going at the end of July and I really want to look good for that :)

Went to my first meeting tonight and I have my packs ready to start tomorrow. I am super excited :D

Good luck tomorrow - how exciting!!

Look forward to reading about your progress. xx

Good luck Hun xx

its bloody disgusting how some people are refused when it comes to LL form filling, which take 2 mins, when they are tryin to make a positive impact on their lives, and like others have said, SAVE MONEY for the NHS

Goodluck possum and keep us updated xxx

Ha! Gem - that reminds me I MUST get weighed when I see the nurse for my next asthma check.

She used to huffily do my BP form, and regularly predicted I would put it all back on again!!

I'm leaner & lighter now than when I finished RTM last year!! Xx

Go Hannah!!

Good luck Possum :) I strangely enjoyed my first couple of days, I hope you do! I just felt so smug and because it was new and exciting I liked it. I did start finding it tough on day 3 but then you're in ketosis and the energy hits!!!! Feels good :) In fact, I think I need to remember that feeling to spur me on!

Look forward to hearing how you get on and we're all here for you x

I am going to be holding onto that thought as well! ;)

I've had a pretty good day actually. Was much easier than I expected, although I am expecting the next couple of days to get worse. Am trying to force myself to finish my first porridge ... uhm, think I might be swapping those on Monday!

I weighed 4lbs less today than I did yesterday, but nothing to do with the diet - have been stuck on a exact weight for the last 10 days in which I did a huge amount of exercise and ate really well. Have also just finished TOTM.
