Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

Hey ladies

Mw gave us some good advice today so thought of share plus stuff I've learnt. It may be obvious to you but it wasn't to us!!

- babies often don't like their pram or Moses basket. This is because it's so much bigger and more spacious than the womb. It is also very different. She suggested putting dad's t shirt in their so that is smells familiar. She advised against mum's if you breastfeed because baby would associate it with milk and then won't sleep. Often it's cold in there, especially compared to the womb so maybe put a hot water bottle in the basket beforehand to warm it up.

- if you have stitches, use maternity pads or cheap supermarket sanitary towels (value/economy). The branded sanitary towels ones have bacteria friendly coating, different material on top and something else which is good of you're having a period but not good for stitches.

- let the tears out when day 3 baby blues hit

- your boobs feel on fire when milk coming through

- use a cellular blanket for baby overnight. We had a nice fleecy one but mw suggested this becomes too hot and also is not breathable for baby,

Think that's it for now. Keep nodding off so probably best I stop and send!!

Oh remembered a few more

- have a radio/tv/music going on when baby in Moses basket/pram. No need to be quiet because baby used to hearing your heartbeat and other noises whilst in the womb.

- if breast feeding you must drink lots, at least 2litres of water especially after 4pm because that's when you produce your better milk. You should eat some high fat foods to improve quality of milk

It's so strange how most babies are the same with things. Cole hated his Moses at first until we rolled a blanket up and tucked it between him and the side of the basket (below shoulder level so not near his face) and now he goes straight to sleep. We also do the hot water bottle thing for a few seconds to warm his mattress and we've got cellular blankets, just in case he pulls them up over his face.
We've borrowed a cot mobile from my sister which is remote control and plays for ten minutes at a time. It lights up too so we play it a couple of times lit up when we come to bed then turn the lights off and just play the music twice then he's usually asleep and we don't need to touch or soothe him. I think the mobile is Lamaze and it's fab!
Thanks for sharing your mw's tips. Hope you and Oliver are doing ok xxx

Thanks for sharing. We are focussing on feeding atm. Trying to get him to feed enough but ER need to crack the not sleeping in Moses basket issue x

Those are all fab tips Penny, some are things we do and some not but all good!

Drinking lots of water when feeding is essential, I have a pint of squash on hand at all times. Bf makes me ravenous too so get snacks lined up ready in case you need them! Oats are meant to be good for milk supply too so plenty of porridge and oatmilk is good :)

Got another app to recommend ladies - this one is called Sound Sleeper and it's basically like the white noise apps but designed especially for babies. It has a womb sounds noise which sends Seth into some kind of bizarre trance! It makes him very chilled out ;) It also has the option for you to record your own sounds so you can record yourself shushing or the sound of the Hoover for example. The paid version has a setting that says it detects when baby stirs or wakes up and plays a selected sound for them - it also does a sleep analysis chart so you can see how sleep is progressing. I only have the free version at the mo but may well pay for it, it's only a couple of quid. I dunno if it's on android but I have it in iOS and the free version is well worth a go.

Hey girls... Been getting really strong "lightening" pains the last 3 days. Mainly at night but thru the day too. Just want to clarify... It ONLY means baby is engaging/touching the cervix... Doesn't mean anything's gona happen???
As much as I want her... I'd rather she stayed cooking.

Barr regular pooing (sorry) I've no other signs r symptoms. Just this "lightening"

I truly believe that yr body makes u wake at night to prepare you for the hell ahead lol ;-) u may have a good sleeper...tbh I don't have a bad sleeper so can't imagine how I'd have been with a ba sleeper lol xxx

Who's next in the baby list??? Xx

There was a list posted somewhere. A while back though.
How are you? How's Stevie's poorly bottom? How have you found going back to work? I'm starting to get things sorted for April but not sure how it's going to work x

Can I just say.... (as this addresses all of you at the same time so it's easier lol)...as I'm in a mushy mood and want to share the love....you are all FABULOUS!!! I've loved every second of my pregnancy - even the crap bits - and a lot of that is because of you ladies. I was probably SO annoying because 2 days after I first posted I got my BFP so it must have seemed like the shortest ttc diary ever ;) (obviously it took a little longer than 2 days) but you all welcomed me with open arms, and over the last 9 months have listened to the ups, the downs and the in-betweens ;). Supported me in the first tri when I was terrified of m/c and my first scan, read about me moaning about my husband, and then gushing about him - was there when I had a couple of deaths to contend with, a very near-death situation with my cousin, a surprise divorce in the family etc (all in the space of a couple of weeks) and I just want to say a huge thank you to all of you xxx

You have all been inspirational throughout your pregnancies and I've literally sat here either crying with laughter at our "funny fridays" talking about sex, cervical mucus, poo, when I accidentally wee'd in Johns shoe (and much more!!) - or crying proper tears going through all the ups and downs with you all too. When we had a day of sharing BFP stories - I was a mess!! Lol x I've shared more with you girls than I have with my own husband I reckon!

So, please, NO-ONE is to go anywhere or go quiet on me because I literally don't know what I'd do without you!! Your like my little family. Your all special and great in your own ways and all are amazing mummies xxx

Just wanted to say that.

You may go and puke now lol :D xxxx

What a lovely post. I've said it before, I think it's such a shame we are spaced all over the place-you lot would be a fab mummy and baby group to meet up with I'm sure. Will just have to content ourselves with Internet! Xx

Awww I know I don't post as much as some but this thread along with the due dates were so helpful to me during my pregnancy too. It's lovely to be able to hear or talk about how others are finding the same situation.. :)

Well Bella is a week old today, we really can't believe how quickly time has gone! We are absolutely smitten with her., on the whole she has been a really relaxed baby and is happy in a room of people listening to them talk and being passed around. Here's a pic of us this morning :)

Oh and I promise I will get round to posting my birth story soon, it's just a bit long and lots to remember ;) x

Beautiful picture xx

Aww Jess I know what you mean! I've been here for almost 17 weeks (gosh that's flown!!!) And you've all been so helpful and supportive in everyway! Xx

Aw Jess, you big softy!! I feel exactly the same though. You girls know pretty much everything about me. You were even all 'there' when I was in labour, I wasn't even texting my friends or family as much as I was on here. Like Frances once said, when I talk about any of you I call you my friends, because you are. We just haven't been lucky enough to meet each other yet!! And when I know one of us is in labour, or poorly, or at hospital etc I'm on here all the time checking that you're all ok.

I still kill myself laughing at you peeing in John's shoe. It's brilliant!!! And Frances getting stuck under the kitchen table the other day.

And funny Fridays - I don't think I've ever known as much about anyones CM, discharge and bodily functions as I have about all yours ;)

Love all you ladies millions. And, even though it's hard with a newborn, none of you are allowed to go anywhere!!!! Xxx

Love you all too and I'm sorry if I ever upset any of you! I know I'm a miserable cow but I don't mean it and I honestly think that you girls are fabulous, I've found pregnancy, labour, birth, motherhood, all of it, so incredibly hard and having you all here has made it so much easier! Thank you all xxx
