Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

Hi ladies. Loving this thread at the minute :) I'm 13+5 with baby number 2. Was just wondering what's everyone's thoughts/experiences with hair dye while pregnant? I know 'they' say there's not enough chemicals etc to harm a baby and it's fine but I've also heard tales of colours coming out completely different in 'pregnant hair'...anyone had this? My hair is naturally curly and quite porous. I normally dye it red so was thinking about a henna dye but then worry it'll be a case of all that mess for not much colour :/ I can't for the life of me remember if I dyed my hair the first time round. Laura X

I stopped dyeing mine but it was more because the change of colour thing and it going wrong than the chemicals. Doesn't take much to ruin my hair so I steered clear. Plus I was getting married 9 weeks after Cole was born so definitely didn't want orange or green hair!!
I think they are pretty safe now. My hairdresser said I would have been fine to dye it if I'd wanted to. A lot of them have bleach in but I think they do some without bleach now which might be better?
Congrats on baby too :) x

I did dye mine and golden brown turned out jet black it wasn't a good look! Xx

I always tint my hair and I had dark roots so I tinted it and it didn't really work :/ and I've never had that problem before so must be hormones making it not take

I thought it was ok in 2nd tri as long as it's in a aired room. X

AFM - midwife app went great. I've lots swelling in feet hands and some on my belly tok but my BP was fine and nothing in urine.
He's all set to come, she said he can't go any further down until labour now!! Eeekkk :)

Great news Jess :)

Sorry Jess (princess) to hear you're having a hard time :-( I like Susie's idea of writing it all down.

Frances what size of nappies is Eabha in? Thomas is in Pampers size 2 and he's 1st 1lb. We were using a local brand over here but the size 2's we're too small and the size 3's too big! So we've switched to pampers until he fits into those one.
I was just a bit confused as pampers size 2 are newborn size but they fit him fine. X

Thanks ladies. My roots are terrible all of a sudden and I seem to have gone a bit grey...I'm only 29! Eek.
I think I might give the henna a whirl so it's not too drastic...I wonder what colour it will go...I don't think I'd suit green. Although if it's good enough for Katy Perry... :D

Good luck! I am very dark, I could count 2 grey hairs before and during pregnancy. I now have many many more! When my preg hair fell out when it grew back there was considerably more grey! :( I have never had to dye it or wanted to for that matter, but am seriously considering it now! I'm only 30! Life isn't fair! Xx

Thanks :D
I swear I only had a couple last time I checked but now there's loads!
My hair is thick and long and I moult like nobody's business as it is, I'd forgotten about the post baby shedding. No matter how much you're told it's only what you gained during pregnancy it still feels like you're going to wake up bald. Hair washing was a bit gross! X

Also Jess i totally know what you mean with your relationship. When your baby is here and its no longer the 2 of you, Things change. dramatically. Thats one thing they dont tell you either with having a baby.

We had some issues after having Jacob. I found myself always so annoyed/upset. I found it hard talking to him face to face as it never got sorted so would message/write how i feel as i could say everything without him butting in or causing it to be a argument.
hope your ok xxx

We had the same issue irrespective of what nappy brand we used! She went into 4+ a long time ago and is still in them now. They swamped her to begin with but we needed the extra absorbency. They go up to 44lb...? If I remember rightly? Anyhow she's 11months and 24lb and they still fit her fine. I would go up a size and if they are a bit big don't worry they will grow into them. What we did do for a while though is use up the smaller ones in the day and the larger ones at night to use them up. X

We are going to try aldi 4s tonight to see if they are any better otherwise will get 4+ tomorrow. Thanks for the tip girls x

Girls, just wanted to warn you all plus get a bit of advice/opinion poll kinda thing.

My mum bought this for Cole from Asda

He absolutely loves it and takes it everywhere. The outside of the wings are black and white patterned. Like everything else it always goes straight in his mouth. Earlier today I picked him up from his chair and his face and sleepsuit had loads of black marks all over. I couldn't figure out what it was until I noticed the dye in the wings of the butterfly had run where he was sucking it!! I know it's not a 'teething' toy but it's suitable for 3m+ and has no warnings on the label about the colours running. It's a Little Tikes one but also says Asda on the label. I don't know if it'll come out of his (white!!) sleepsuit but I'm not too bothered about that, I'm more bothered that it was on his face and more than likely in his mouth. My dad picked it up and got dye on his finger. This is the sleepsuit where he'd had it resting on his foot

It was also on the chest of the sleepsuit where he'd dribbled.

My mum bought it as an Easter present and doesn't have the receipt but it clearly says Asda and Little Tikes on it. I know they probably use non toxic dyes but (in my opinion) that's not the point. Would you complain or just bin it?

Complain!! They should at least put a warning on others in future or might recall it!! X

Complain.:) It shouldn't happen.

That's what I thought but didn't want to come across as a complainer. But then again it's a baby toy so shouldn't happen.

Never thought of that. Gutted, he bloody loves that toy. X

That's awful. Really bad of then. Complain x

Omg that's awful. I would complain... I've had a similar butterfly one for Jacob when he was little abd the dye never run. So deff complain as it might be a bad batch? Xx

Not good! I would definitely complain. It's not like it's not common knowledge to the manufacturers that babies put everything in their mouth!

Complaint sent to both Asda and Little Tikes. I basically put what you said Danni, as a toy manufacturer they should know babies will put things in their mouths. And I know they probably use non toxic dye but that's not the point. Glad it was his cheapy Asda sleepsuit and not one of the nice Jasper Conran outfits that Tom's mum sent. I buy Asda, she shops at Debenhams lol ;)
