Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

Yup. Same here. Altho I have gone a bit clothes mad, they'll not be wrapped. They're for wearing as of from tomorrow :) She'll no clothes that fit her in January as they're all Christmas reference clothes lol Toys n things, I'd said we were getting her 3 things. Something she : 1. Wants 2. Needs 3. To read... She's got each of the above... Just more than 1 of each ha ha ha

I've bought December clothes ;) he's got two long sleeved tshirts, one with a penguin that says 'cool Yule' and an elf one. Then he's got a Tshirt with reindeer on it, a onesie with reindeer on, a fluffy Disney onesie, and some Santa pj's. Also got him some Santa slipper socks, a first Christmas bib and am ordering him a first Christmas dinner bib from Tesco. Just need to get him a Christmas jumper now :)

Oliver has got 2 Xmas jumpers, 1 Xmas cardigan and 2 bibs :)
Managed to stop myself buying more... For now lol x

Hello ladies,

I've just posted in the due dates thread, but wanted to say hi here too. I have been trying to catch up on this thread over the past few days as I'm sure many of my questions will already have been answered, but there's so much in here (which is fab, but I can be a little impatient lol).

It looks like many of you have now had your babies - congratulations! There are so many cuties :) I can't wait to meet my little person, but it'll be a while yet. Am currently 13+3 and EDD is 04/06/14.

Anyway, my first questions are about weight gain and bumps. I hope you don't mind me asking, but to those who have had their babies, how much weight did you gain during the pregnancy? I am a bit worried as I was previously very overweight (18st +) and lost lots which was great - I was 11st 4 when I got married in the spring. Unfortunately, due to a 3 week honeymoon and no restraint afterwards I regained two stone and a bit before finding out I was pregnant. Absolutely delighted to be having a baby, but the weight gain is in the back of my mind. It doesn't help that I've been constantly hungry, and feel nauseous unless I eat regularly, so that has equalled about 10 weeks of no holds barred eating. I'm currently about 7lbs up since my BFP - is this normal? I guess I'm just feeling worried as things have felt a bit out of control, and I'm terrified of regaining all the weight back. I was so unhappy before...

My second question is about bumps. Not really showing yet which isn't a surprise given that this is my first. However, I'm wondering if I'll ever look like I have a bump rather than just looking heavy... I always have a "top" belly even when I'm slimmer - like a roll of fat or a wee shelf you can see even if I'm standing up. I don't just have one big jelly belly - I have two parts if that makes sense? So, I wondered if anyone knew whether all of this will pop out over time into a proper bump? Clothes just now are doing my head in as my waist is defo thicker, and I'm mega bloated. Oh, so if anyone has maternity dressing tips I'd love to hear them.

Anyway, ramble over for now. Looking forward to getting to know everyone over the coming months :)

Congratulations on your pregnancy :)

With my first I gained 21lbs throughout but I had a strict doctor to keep me in check lol
I was 13st 4lbs at the beginning and didn't have a proper bump until 20 / 21 weeks. Before then I just looked like I'd put on weight really.

Think a lot of people struggle in the first 12 weeks with being nauseous and find it easier in the second and third trimester to be healthier :)

For maternity wear I found looser clothes at the beginning and once I had a bump tighter clothes were better otherwise I looked bigger!

My little boy is 9 1/2 months and I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant, was a bit of a surprise! So I'll be keeping you company :) x

Hi welcome, my clothes got tight early on but i ate loads, i had just lost three stone so fittes in mu previous clothes. I didnt start showing properly till after 20 weeks at first i looked like i had a beer belly. Def agree fitted clothes to show of you bump, lots of maxi dresses for me as it was summer . I weighed in about a month after birth and had three stone to loose bit its coming off slowly xx

Congratulations!
I remember feeling really frumpy to begin with until my bump appeared and then I didn't mind because I looked pregnant rather than fat. I gained about a stone and a half eating very healthily throughout the week and then treats at the weekend.. Most of my baby weight came off afterwards I have breast feeding to thank for that completely shrunk my tummy back . New look have some good maternity clothes otherwise I honestly found maternity ranges very limited I got a lot of mine off ebay etc .. Next are good for their maternity jeans. My bump came around 16-17 weeks I think xx

Congratulations!! How exciting that you'll have two close together in age :) Oh, how are you feeling with looking after a wee one in your first trimester though? I was floored for the first twelve weeks... Can only imagine! It's nice that we're both early on as it will be good to have company - the first 12 weeks to the scan absolutely dragged in for me. Although I'm guessing with it being your second you won't have much time for it to drag! ;)

21lbs would be ideal for me. I'll need to eat better if I want that to happen!

Congratulations!

I put on about 5 stone because I ate anything and everything. Was not a good idea in hind sight. I had a proper bump from about 20ish weeks I would say. Until then I wore baggy clothes. Once bumped appeared I wore fitted clothes. X

At this rate I am probably looking at a similar gain... I was hoping maybe in the latter stages I wouldn't be able to eat constantly as my stomach will be squashed and I'll get full quicker? Maybe that's just wishful thinking  I haven't had a chance to check out your diary yet, but will pop over and subscribe :)

Sounds like fitted clothes will be the way forward once bump appears. At the moment with everything being baggy I look and feel huge. Doesn't help that I'm a total short arse. Was thinking I should see if I can find some nice but comfy winter boots with a heel (smallish) to see if that gives me a bit of height and makes me feel less dumpy...

I'll be big in spring/summer all going well - maxi dresses will be fab, although I suspect my size 14s will be on the small side for my boobs if nothing else - I've gone up at least 2 cups sizes, and they were already big to begin with. Need to go and get measured properly...

Congratulations!

Treats at the weekend sounds like a good plan... I'm hoping that after Christmas I can get into a routine. Excellent to hear that BF really has helped with weight loss!

Maternity ranges seem to be pants :( eBay is a good idea though - will have a look :)

I am currently 30 weeks pregnant and have so far gained about 2 stone. If anything, my appetite is getting worse as time goes on. I'm telling myself I'm eating so much to keep my energy up!!

My bump began to show about 20 odd weeks and is now getting bigger by the day!!

I spent hours researching how much weight gain is "normal" but I think even just from this thread you can see everyone is different.

Good luck with your pregnancy xx

Think i missed you saying this? Congratulations !! Xxxx

Thanks :)

I've know since the day my period was due but it's still sinking in! Lol x

This time round is not as bad as last time I was constantly nauseous for the first 16 weeks and this time I'm normally sick then feel better or nauseous for just part of the day.
Worst part is how tired I am!
Jess (Princess Peach) is 11 weeks too so there are a few of us :)

Congratulations and welcome!!! :)

Yup! I'm 11+3 tomorrow with Baby Number 2! My daughter Amelia is 9 months old on Tuesday!

I weighed 13st 5lbs on my BFP day with Amelia, and on the day I was induced (40+12) I was 15st 5lbs so gained 2st exactly. I put this down to my appetite dropping in the 1st and 2nd trimesters...I didnt really gain any weight until 20/21 weeks I think. I was pretty ill in the beginning with nausea and food aversions so only being able to eat the odd cracker and bag of salt and vinegar crisps helped! Un-mistakeble bump appeared properly at around 20 weeks too, although I did have one pop out at about 16 weeks.

This time I weighed 12st 4lbs on BFP day, and currently I'm 12st 2lbs at 11 weeks, so 2lbs down. Again, although NO sickness or any symptoms this time, my appetite isnt what it was and I have days where I dont eat a lot. This time, a small bump popped out at 9-10 weeks. At the moment though I just look fat, not pregnant so I cant wait for a proper bump as I know I will feel much better. Dreading being huge in the summer, but hey ho lol :D Happy to be pregnant!!

Good luck girls! Its nice to have some bump buddies :D xxx

Thanks ladies. Seems everyone is different, and I can't expect not to pile on the weight when I'm eating almost constantly and making bad choices. Time to knuckle down and start back on lots of fruit and veg for bubz. I read somewhere that babies begin to taste the amniotic fluid at around 13 weeks, so I don't want to pass on my sugar fiend-iness if I can help it! Also want to be eating lots of variety for different flavours. I was a very fussy eater as a child (I think mostly due to very little variety in foods) so I'm hoping this won't be the case with bubz.

Sorry to hear about the morning sickness :( Would like to be 10lbs down but don't think that level of sickness to get there would be worth it.

I haven't been referred to a consultant or dietician as yet. I was dreading my first MW appointment as I'd read lots of horror stories online about poor treatment of larger ladies. Thankfully she was lovely and has said that as long as everything else is ok there's no need for consultant led care so fingers crossed. Might ask to see a dietician though if other people have found this helpful?
