    Evening all,
I have a bit of a silly but concerning dilemma. .
Tomorrow I've been invited for tea with some ladies from an exercise class as our class isn't on over Easter. They are all lovely but just discovered they are all really looking forward to puddings!!! Now don't get me wrong I dabble in the dark side now and again but not 2 days before weigh in. I don't really feel I can be honest and say if I eat a pudding and gain I'll be so annoyed with myself. But have found myself wondering if I could claim lactose intolerance or given them up for lent? I'm probably been daft, it wouldn't be the first time

I think just say you're stuffed after your dinner and couldn't manage one!

Also, this may sound weird, but before you are there, close your eyes and imagine you are at the table surrounded by the girls and them saying what they are having for pudding and you saying no thanks to the waiter. By playing it through your mind now it will be more likely you go ahead with it. May sound daft but I do it all the time with stuff like that and it has worked a treat for me!

I think just saying you couldn't handle eating anything more or that you don't have a sweet tooth is probably best if not telling them the truth. I wouldn't advise claiming that you're lactose intolerance if you aren't.

  6. All you need to say is no thanks. End of story. No explanations necessary, and certainly not untrue ones.

Hiya I know it's easier said than done but I'd just say 'No thank you' if they push for a reason just say you're full.

Just think THEY'RE looking forward to desert that doesn't mean you have include yourself :)

Another idea - Are you going to someone's house? Because if so could you not bring a Sw friendly desert? Maybe sw version of Eaton Mess or something else that doesn't 'look' healthy.

I'm always baffled when I go out with people for a social event and their focus is the desert. I've always looked at the socialising or even the meal but I guess each to their own.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy yourself regardless of the pudding concern

If you are eating out there may be a SW friendly option, posh fruit skewers or similar. Or I agree if you are at someone's house then take something with you. Looks good to turn up with a sharing dish. Otherwise opt for a hot drink as your "pud" and just politely decline. At the end of the day they are your exercise class so Id make a joke about having to work it off next week or something.

What is it about puddings?? I'd much rather have a started myself!! ;)

Maybe when you have finished your main meal, make a passing comment like 'ohhh, I couldn't eat another thing, I'm stuffed' then when the desserts menu comes up you can just say, 'no, really, I am full, but I'll have a coffee'

I must admit, I don't bow to other peoples pressure, if anything, the more someone says 'oh, go on', the more likely I am to refuse (stubborn is my middle name) however, I find in situations like this I just get swept along and think 'oh sod it, I'm out for a meal, I'll have what I want, not what I am allowed!'

If they're ladies from a fitness class then surely they'll understand you not wanting a pudding for healthy eating reasons? But you don't need to prepare a speech or an excuse- just a firm "no thank you" is enough and resist any "oh go on!"s from everyone else.

For some reason I find that some people hate hearing a "no" especially when it comes to alcohol or dessert and try to talk you in to having it. I think it must be a jealousy thing- they don't have the willpower to resist and get uncomfortable when someone else manages to!

I always try and remember what someone else on here once said to me, 'you don't need to eat just to please other people'. If you don't want it then don't have it, I'm with the 'offer no explanation brigade' but with the 'I'm full' explanation if questioned. X x

If you feel worried about saying no to puddings - perhaps feign interest in the pudding menu, but then declare there is nothing that grabs your fancy so you will just have a coffee as you are quite full from the main ?

    Hope it goes well x

  13. I am definitely a pudding person. That's the bit of the menu I read first, and decide on the rest of the meal when I know what I am having for pudding! I always have puds in restaurants, because I hardly ever go out to eat and it is a real treat when I do. And funnily enough, if I were to feel any pressure, it would be the other way round, because I am usually the only one! Luckily for me, I don't feel in the least bit embarrassed about digging in with my spoon while everyone else is having a coffee!! :)

I opted for a salad for my main course and diet coke to drink which was met with raised eyebrows. They ordered chocolate fudge cakes and cheesecake, having had no sins all day except for the salad dressing on the side I caved and ordered a sorbet. Although the conversation was lovely, there was a couple of comments about how I must be stuffed after the salad and flavoured ice! :airquote:
