Question about healthy extras

I was wondering - should I ideally be using my healthy extras as part of a meal, or is it ok to save them for snacks? For example, yesterday I had two Alpen light bars as snacks and a glass of milk. Today, if I don't use my healthy extras in meals, could I have a slice of bread with dairylea, smoked salmon and cucumber as a snack later?
