Russiandoll's diary - every day a Day 1

Russiandoll

Carpe diem
Hi everyone. Well, here I am starting yet another VLCD ... this time, Slim & Save. I'm a long term yo-yo dieter and have tried almost every diet going. I did well on Cambridge in 2006/07 (lost 10st) but regained 5st of that after series of devastating life events. I've remained around the 17st mark since 2007 despite many attempts at starting and restarting various diets.

I've decided to give S&S a go, mainly because it offers 4 packs per day (one of them a 'meal') which will fit in better with my 2 jobs. I have a long day which starts at 8am and doesn't end until my second job finishes at 9pm.

I've started a blog for my more rambling thoughts and this diary for a more concise summing up of my day. My S&S 28 day pack arrives tomorrow - I've already tried a few of the packs and they seem ok so I'm pressing ahead.

I'm not promising myself anything other than I'll give it a go and do my best.

Good luck to everyone starting at the same time as me and 'keep going' to those ahead of us :) And thanks for all the encouragement

Day 1 is done and dusted. To be honest, I never find that the hardest day ... days two and three on the other hand ....

I weighed in at 17st 4lb which is lighter than the start weight of my last failed attempt (17st 11lb)- so at least I'm not back at the start (not far off it but not back at the start!)

I had a vanilla crunch cereal for breakfast and wasn't sure if it was supposed to be a cereal or a shake. I opted for the 'shake' option and made it accordingly (with my customary half teaspoon of psyllium husks). At break time in job 1 I made do with just a decaf coffee and drank a measly 500ml of water. In my defence, it's hard downing lots of water when you are taking an hour long lesson and can't leave for a trip to the loo. I need to try harder on that score though.

I had a chicken soup at around 2.30 - very yummy. During job 2, at about 7pm-ish, I had a Maple, fruit and Almond bar. Heaven!! I'd eat this if I WASN'T on a diet: it's delicious and reminds me of 'Christmas'. I ended the day with cottage pie and steamed veg. The cottage pie wasn't exactly lean mince and fluffy mash but it was hot and palatable which is fine by me.

So far today I've had a porridge (creamy and yum) and am about to have a veggie soup before I leave for my second job. Tonight I'll have a chocolate truffle bar and come home to chilli and steamed veg. So far, I've not felt too deprived and I'm keen to see those scales tip down into the next bracket. Even 16st 13lb sounds better than 17st 1lb even though there isn't much difference. Psychologically there is.

I've not mentioned I'm dieting to anyone at either job - I'm fed up with the announcement followed by the 'fail'. I'll wait until I'm well established before I say anything.

Hope everyone is feeling ok and 'fighting the fight'

Day 2 completed.

Loved the porridge, loved the soup, loved the bar (almond and vanilla - reminded me of a Toblerone). The chilli was ok over veg and I'm not physically hungry. I have wanted to eat things but I know it's out of habit so I resisted.

It's late and I'm exhausted - time for bed and I'll update more fully tomorrow :)

Day 3
I can honestly say this has been the easiest VLCD I've done so far. Having the 4 packs rather than 3 is making it less tortuous and being able to have 200g of veg / bean-sprouts really bulks up my evening meal. I've felt 'hungry' at times but not to the point I've had pangs and felt miserable and deprived.

Today I had porridge for breakfast. I love this (only had the plain one so far). It's very creamy and just yummy. I have psyllium husks in it to make it more 'oaty' and thicken it up.

Lunch was mushroom soup, evening snack at job 2 was a maple, fruit and almond bar. My favourite so far!

Dinner was macaroni cheese with beansprouts and steamed green veg. The macaroni cheese is more of a soupy consistency but it still felt like a substantial meal.

I'm hoping the magic K Fairy will arrive soon then everything will get easier and easier!

The only issue I'm having at the moment is the woman who sits diagonally opposite me at my second job. She does NOT stop eating the whole 4 hours I'm there. Crisps, Doritos, pasties, sandwiches, tupperware boxes of pasta salad, stew, cakes, biscuits .... it's never ending and even before the diet it was getting me down. She's very greedy and has no etiquette when it comes to eating. She has no qualms eating a whole family packet of kettle chips then tipping her head back and pouring the crumbs into her mouth. mean - seriously - would you do that in public??

It's so bad I even considered asking to be moved but it'd be so obvious and on other respects I like her. It's not the kind of job where we socialise enough for me to speak to HER about it so I'm in a very awkward situation. Not sure how to resolve it either

Oh well - other than that, all is good. Bring on day 4!

Hi well done so far, it's great u like all the packs ATM, hope I like enough to have a good variety ;)

Quick question, what's psyllium husks?!!

Sent from my iPhone using MiniMins

Psyllium Husks are the powdered outer husk of the psyllium plant. They can't be digested so don't add any carbs and ruin the diet but because they absorb 20 times their own weight in water, they thicken the shakes / soups and swell in your stomach providing bulk (so no constipation). I used them all through my CD era - don't think I could've done the diet without them.

A shake made up with half a teaspoon followed up with a glass of water makes you feel like you've eaten a large meal. I buy mine from a company called OneOn - just stick 'psyllium husks' in the search box and it'll give you more info

Whey Protein, Creatine, Fat Burners, Colostrum, best value supplements

Oh god my place of work everyone is like that!! I try to click them out and they know not to even offer me naughty food!! LOL nobody knows I'm on plan but I'm super strict anyway

Well done hunny Xx

Good luck so far..you can do it.
With regards to lady at work...a difficult situation but just think while she is putting all that
food/junk in her body she's getting fatter (not that I would wish that on any body) and you are eating but differently
and getting slimmer.

Good luck...keep going x

I've tried to survive the ordeal by thinking that way ... I'm surprised she doesn't weigh 26st by now  The constant hand to mouth distraction I can just about live with - it's the mega loud crunch, crunch, crunch of kettle chips / Doritos / Wotits that really gets to me. Not to mention the sucking of each finger afterwards. HELLLPP!!

Thanks for all the encouragement x
