Step 1 Sole Source + Ruthlet's Road to being a loser!

Well hello diary, sorry its been so long.

Thanks for them well wishes Pink Tulip, I gave my consultant WI a miss this week. I didn't need any product & was still too poorly to venture out.

This blooming tonsillitis has really knocked me on my behind - thankfully its still quite ample ;) The fever & infection in my throat has gone but no matter what I do I just can't get back up to speed. I have really struggled to eat anything since Tuesday before last, especially the packs  I have always loved the Cambridge shakes but at the moment they really turn my stomach. Plus its been TOTM this week & thanks to the antibiotics I have had a yucky yucky thrush too  Boo!

I spoke to my doctor & she thinks I should have a week away from the plan/ low-carb eating. Just focus on eating wholesome food, try to keep my carbs in check (I.e stay away from chocolate, sweets & biscuits etc) & get my strength back. Then when I am feeling back to normal, reintroduce packs & drop back down the steps again.

I'm still going to weigh in on Sundays like normal, but for the next fortnight my focus is getting back to full health rather than losing.

Hey Ruthlet! Gosh, sounds like you have really had a bad patch with the tonsilitis:(. Hope you are feeling better. Your doc is right in that you have to concentrate on getting your health back on track before going down the steps again. Sending you lots and lots of get well wishes!

Warning...food talk below!:eatdrink023:

Well, I survived the dinner out on Saturday and ended up having beef carpaccio with rocket and a bit of parmesan shavings for starters and then lemon & thyme roast chicken with steamed veg (carrots, cauliflower and green beans). I only had 2 packs that day and we did loads of walking which I'm sure helped as I've lost 3lb this week...yay!:) Tonight is the second dinner and the most challenging one of the two events as they don't have chicken on the menu unless its crumbed, stuffed with cheese or fried:eek:, so I've decided on a fillet steak with veg of the day or a salad and again no 3rd product. Hoping that it will be OK, but expecing a slower loss this week. Shew...having to socialise whilst on plan is sure hard work...lol:p.

Hope you are feeling much better already! x

It sounds like you had everything under control with your events Pink Tulip. Well done.

I am still poorly and on yet more antibiotics! 4 weeks now :(

Weight loss and diet is the furthest thing from my mind until I can get shot of this blooming infection. I was 14st8lb after the first severe bout of tonsilitis but a lot of that was dehydration. I am sitting at 14st 13lb at the moment which is where I was pre-illness. I have been trying to eat healthily and have been including carbs so most of the 5lb regain is most likely water and glycogen - this is backed up by the fact I can still fit in the jeans I managed to get into after the first round of illness ;)

My Doctor has advised not to attempt any weight loss until at least a month after I have kicked this infection which is looking like it will probably be end of August/start September at this rate. Who knew that tonsilitis could be such a pain in the backside!

I'll still be popping in once in a while though to see how everyone is doing :hug99:

Oh no Ruthlet:(, that's not nice that you are still poorly. I really hope this second lot of anti-b's clears up the infection for you and you are on the mend soon! Totally understand that you need to come off plan for a bit to get your health back on track. I myself have a sore throat today and swollen glands. Don't have my tonsils anymore but not feeling too great myself. Have an appointment with GP tomorrow evening and hoping they will be able to shed some more light on it. I feel your pain, it sucks being ill:(

I survived the dinner last week too (just!). It was very, very hard! I lost 3lb this week...meaning I've lost over 2 stone now. Still can't believe I've made it to 8 weeks:eek:. 4 more weeks until I go on holiday and off plan for 2 weeks.

Sending you lots of get well wishes! x

Hey Ruthlet,

Just checking in to see how you are doing? Hope you are feeling better! The boards are so quiet these days. Suppose lots of people are on their hollibobs;)! Well week 10 for me and two weeks left before my 2 week holiday/break. Still can't believe that I've made 10 weeks:eek:! I have another dinner out on Saturday night but luckilly they have steak and salad on the menu, so big relief! Can't say the same for the following weekend though when I go away for 2 nights. Hopefully I will be able to make the most healthy choice possible when it comes to breakfast and lunch! Anyways, just wanted to check in and say 'hi' and see how you are feeling! xx

Thank you for popping in Pink Tulip - you are a love :hug99:You are doing so incredibly well and are such an inspiration for your fellow CD'ers :p I hope you are enjoying your weekend away.

Well, good news here. F i n a l l y, I seem to be rid of the underlying infection I picked up at the end of June :woohoo:Thank goodness!!! I can honestly say that I have never felt so wretched in my entire life as I did with the case of devil-tonsilitis. Some people have suggested to me that I got sick because of the rapid weight loss from being on plan  However, my Doctor has said that is utter nonsense (I love her, she is brill :)). Her opinion is that the weight loss and high concentration of vitamins and minerals in the packs prior to getting sick would have only boosted my immune system and general health, and if I had not been in such good health before the infection could have been worse

WARNING FOOD TALK BELOW:
While recovering I have had the odd pack but mainly been focusing on eating lots of healthy fats, protein, fruit and vegetables. I have been using My Fitness Pal to log my calories and carbs, not to lose weight but to:
(A) Make sure I am eating enough, as post-infection I really struggled to eat at all & couldn't tolerate the shakes. Full fat greek yoghurt & cream  was a godsend at first, but I am now back to low fat plain yoghurt.
(B) To keep my carbs in check. From maintaining my weight loss previously I know that if I consistently exceed 150g carbs a day then I WILL put on weight, it is just the way my body & metabolism seems to be wired.

A couple of weeks ago I did start to spiral into a carb-crazed feeding frenzy for a bit. After a particularly hard night on the starchy sugary carbs: bread, sweets, crisps, ice cream - nothing with any nutritional value whatsoever  I woke up so bloated and with such a horrid headache I realised I was going down a bad path!! I gave myself a good talking to, drew a line under it and have been trying to make better choices for myself since then.

FOOD TALK OVER ;)

So after 5 weeks off plan what are the scores George Dawes? :scale: 14st 8lb which is where I was after my first week of illness, so overall in the 5 weeks off plan I have maintained
I am still not ready to drop back down into the realms of SS+ and my doctor would rather I didn't either for a few more weeks. The overall idea is to try and keep making good choices and use MFP to keep myself in check. If I am completely honest, I don't know if I have the resolve to go back to the VLCD end of the scale :ashamed0005:. Now I am back in a size 18 and the double chin has gone I am feeling more comfortable in my own skin. I still want to lose the rest of my excess poundage, but I am in less of a hurry to get there. So the mission for august is to maintain, Maintain, MAINTAIN! If I manage to lose the odd pound then that would be nice but not necessary.

I'll keep my diary here for the moment but might have one of the lovely mod's move it over to the general diary section as SS+ is not where I am right now and there is far to much talk of food in my posts!

Keep trucking everyone!

Hey Ruthelet, good to hear from you! So glad you are feeling better! WOW! Well done on maintaining for the last 5 weeks. For me maintenance is almost harder than losing weight, so very well done!

Last week on plan for me before my 2 week break. But to be honest I'm probably not going to be on plan past Friday this week as I'm going away for the weekend and eating packs at the hotel is not really going to work! If I can just maintain this week, then I will be really happy! I'm 3 pounds away from the target I set for myself and am ok with it if I dont lose this week. After my 2 week break, I will be going back on plan but will be following Slim 'n Save. I've tried some of their packs and it's really tasty and I like the variety so have ordered my supplies for September! I have 2.5 stone more to lose once I start again in September (taking into a account a gain whilst on holiday). I will lose 1.5 the usual way and then go up the steps to lose the next stone and hopefully learn to maintain...once and for all!

My final goal will be the end November so that I can be comfortably at goal by Christmas! Good luck with the rest of your journey Ruthlet and I'll pop in to your diary every now and again! xx

Hon well done!! I'm not sure I would've had the willpower when poorly to have made such good food choices so that's amazing! And such a good sign that when you do get to goal, you've already had experience of maintaining! Be proud of yourself! Hope you're back to being 100% soon xxxxx
