I bought some extra lean steak mince from tesco beginning of the week, and the use by date on it is today, but when i bought it was like reddy colour, now its changed to brown in colour, does anyone know if this will still be ok to eat or should I just bin it?

Thanks guys thought as much, tho display date was yesterday and use by today, and its been kept in fridge so dont understand how it would go off really

Actually if its brown but still smells ok, then it is ok to eat Hun...its just the blood changing colour (Hubby used to be Environmental Health officer). If it feels slimy and smells weird then bin.

It will probably be the surface which is brown, and it will be red underneath. All meat does this on exposure to air - it is quite normal.

If it is within the use-by date and you have kept it cold, then - literally - follow your nose! There's no mistaking the smell of meat which has gone off.
