Now DTD at Tesco has finished and I am soon to be faced with the prospect of having to spend real money again on food - Argh! My aim is to slash my daily pop in for a few bits trips and plan my shopping properly using my supermarket! I've managed to completely cut out take aways with the thought that each one I paid for was the cost of a pair of jeans and a t shirt in primark. Certainly makes me think!

Some of my supermarket staples are:

Value pasta - 9p (I prefer wholemeal but this is about 10 times cheaper)
2x4 pints of skimmed milk -£2
Value grated cheddar £1.85 - this hoes way further than a block and as I don't like mild cheese it stops me eating it
Tesco light choices frozen mince £2.30
Muller lights x 7 = 1.75
grapes - about 1.50
Tinned toms £1
LF fromage frais - 70p
Spuds -£2
Bananas -£1.20
Apples - £2
Value frozen chicken £3
Eggs -70p
Sf jelly - 50p
Bagged salad x2 -1.50

I buy other bits too but this is what I pretty much always have in my trolley.
I've got really fussy kids and a fussy hubby too which makes meal planning a nightmare.

Newbie Green Grocery Suggestions

Hi everyone.

I am starting Slimming World tomorrow and hoping to focus on the green seeing I am vegetarian and heard its the ideal plan. Any suggestions on Free/Green Friendly must haves. My DH and I are clearing out the cupboards and planning a huge online grocery shop to kick off our start.
:D

Frylight is a must for me, other than that I would say plan what you want to eat for meals and base your shopping list around that

Good luck

Thought it would be a good idea to start a thread where you add your weekly slimming world shopping items, so that we can all see what each other buy etc, might give us new ideas for things to try or ask about and will be useful for newbies perhaps on necessities to buy when starting out.

I did a massive post christmas shop today, as we popped to the US, so I had a big sort out of my fridge, freezer and cupboards as well as my herb drawer lol and now it is all stocked to the brim with nice healthy stuff for me to make some yummy sw foods over the coming weeks.

Anyway my shopping list for this week was as follows:

Fruit/Veg

Pink Lady apples (my fav)
Bananas
Pineapple
Limes
Lemons
Persimmons (haven't tried these before, but they sounded yummy, so thought I would give them a try for something new)
Clementines

Celery
Carrots
Courgettes
Aubergine
Red Onions
Rutabunga (like a swede)
Peppers (mixed selection)
Lettuce
Cucumber
Roma Tomatoes
Sweet Potatoesx3
Yukon Gold Potatoes

Bakery

1 loaf of whole wheat bread (works out as 57g for 2 slices, an exact HEb portion)
1 pack of whole wheat english muffins (again 57g each and allowed as a HEb here in Canada)

Meats

Extra Lean Lamb Mince
Skinned Chicken thighs
Turkey Bacon
(I always make sure freezer is stocked up with portions of meat to take out when needed, so already have, stewing beef, pork chops, beef mince and chicken breasts in freezer)

Dairy/Fresh

Reduced fat cheddar cheese
Fat Free Phildelphia
Parmesan
(all of which can be used as a HEa)
0% Greek Yoghurt
some fat free flavoured yoghurts
milk
low fat spread

Store Cupboard Ingredients

Luckily I didnt need much of these items this week, as my cupboard is stocked with whole wheat pasta/rices and pulses, spices etc

But I did get:

Baked Beans
Chick Peas
Hot curry powder
Raisin Bran cereal (can be used as a HEb)
low calorie hot chocolate (25 calories a sachet)

Freezer

I was surprised to find Quorn today, so bought some Quorn mince, as it will come in handy for some green days.

Bag of frozen mixed veg
Haagen Daz blueberry and cranberry sorbet (100 calories for 1/2 cup)

Snacks

100 calorie chocolate pretzels (5 syns)
100 calorie sweet and salty popcorn (5 syns)
onion rings snacks (7 syns for 20 rings)

I tend to drink mostly water nowadays, so you will notice we didnt buy any pop or other type drinks etc.

That was our shop for this week. Looking forward to making a nice big pot of healthy stew tomorrow and also am going to make some sweet potato hummus.

Good idea, I am going to place this in my favourites:D

The veg box was £17.95 and the fruit was £10.75, there's enough for a week for 4 people though I think my husband and I will plough through the lot!

SW shop for 34.95.

Im absoloutly shocked, i just had to share! .. i usually shop at morrisons, and its taken all my might to step out of my comfort zone, but i really need to save some money.
OH forced me to Lidl last week, were i spent 54 quid and another tenner in morrisons after, in total spending what i usually would.. so i wasnt impressed. Having said that, that shop actually lasted me almost 2 weeks.. so i decided to give it one more week.

Iv just done my shop for 34.95. All i need to get is my yogurts from else where, as my Lidl doesnt seem to stock fat free yogs for some reason.

heres my shopping list:
Simple Baby wipes- 99p (the branded ones!)
Simple baby wipes 99p
Shampoo- 79p
shower gel- 39p
low fat natural yogurt-55p
pasta sauce 75p
shower gel again ( not sure how i picked up too lots! 79p
pasta sauce 75p
face wipes -75p
unsmoked back bacon 8 rashers - 79p
chicken breast (3) 3.99
supreme pizza 99p (not for me i promise ;) )
penne pasta dried 49p
quorn sausages 1.55
rice pudding (again not mine lol) 37p
corn on the cob 1.00
strawberries 1.79
organic bananas 1.00
mild chedder 400g 1.99
cos lettuce 49p
cos lettuce 49p
organic carrots 49p
organic eggs 1.79
salad tomatoes (8) 79p
mixed peppers 1.49
broccoli (its huge!) 79p
pears 99p
oranges 1.5kg 1.29
red plums 69p
rooster potatoes 1.00
custard creams 30p
ridge cut crisps 6pk 99p

Now, iv left loo roll and milk off my list as we dont actually need any yet.. but heres what i intend to make with my shop:

Loaded potatoe wedges - made with bacon and red onion (which iv just realised he forgot to charge me for, bargain lol)
quorn sausages and mash
pasta bake x2
curry
cooked breakfast
chicken roast dinner- with the roast chicken i bought last week and never used and froze...
baked potatoes
quorn sausage hotpot using left over sausages
cheesy chips and egg
bacon and chicken salad (with the left over breast) and new potatoes(left over from last weeks shops again)

I also have tuna and passata that i didnt use from last weeks shop either, so will make a pasta sauce using that and herbs, peppers etc.

so thats like 12 meals.

:D i dont even care if i have to pop out mid week for anything, because for 34.95.. when i on average spend 66quid, and still go back. Im chuffed as nuts.

All i will say is- as word of warning- if your Lidl is anything like mine and you are used to shopping is Asda, Tesco.. Morrisons.. etc.. Be prepared. Lots of old people.. lots of smelly people.. and the staff are incredibly rude. . . infact, so much so im actually going to complain after what i saw today.. but its worth putting up with to save those Pennys!!! be positive, open mind! .. and if you find rice by the washing up liquid, that just seems to be the way it is!

Lidl is not rude - they are efficient..hahaha..those Germans again :)

I do like Lidl and Aldi but I can't always find everything I need - In fact, most of what I usually buy I can't get in Lidl at all. eg certain types of cheese and yogurts and also wholemeal pasta I don't get there. I only go to these shops if I feel homesick and want to buy some German sweets (when I'm not on SW ..I promise...:)) or some German sausages..stuff like that. The veg and the fruit doesn't last that long (which is actually a good sign but I am not that quick!!!) so I usually go for frozen - which again is not available in Aldi or Lidl (at lease they don't have a very large range). I would recommend those shops for meat and fish but as I am hardly doing red days and my closest Lidl is miles away I don't bother...:-( But apart from that I think you can save shed loads of money there if you are an average family and not as picky as me :)

Lidl & Aldi are great value for staples i think. Tinned toms, meat etc. Their veg doesn't last as long, but then it goes so quick in our house tis not a problem.

Don't find the staff rude ( though they do tend to throw your stuff at you!) and think
It depends on which ones u go to with regards to the other shoppers. The ones near me all seem to be full of normal people. I went to one ina slightly rough part of reading recently & was genuinely scared by some of the patrons!!
