They are not of the same family even if they taste the same.... the sweet potato *is* a potato full of starch, definitely a no-no! The squash is just that and amazingly yes we are allowed squash and pumpkins... As it tastes quite sweet it must have some sugar content so don't go overboard (ie one meal per day max)... I myself have had plenty of Squashes this autumn, but saved the sweet potato for my 'Gala' meals.
