Switching from LL to Exante

[FONT=.Helvetica NeueUI]So I'm on day two of Exante after switching from LL. I'd love to compare my experience with both but I have to confess I only did 1 week on LL (last week BTW). Anyway, I started on 20.2 stone (male/38/5"8 )and dropped to 18.13 in the first week, encouraging but i understand men drop it quickly too in the first week. Kept thinking about the cost of LL so searched and came across Exante on Sunday so ordered and got it yesterday. They were good enough to send me a sample Porridge as the LL porridge was repulsive.

Not really done forums before, but I wanted to put this down somewhere and I've been reading a lot of others stories so thought why not.

So I have a target to lose 6 stone, taking me down to what I was probably about 10 years ago. Only thing I'm struggling with is the boredom. It surprises me how much time we spend thinking about, planning, eating and drinking (alcohol). I'm on 100%, so on the wagon and total. No motivation yet to exercise but I'm sure it will come. Clothes already starting to fit better.

I just keep saying to myself - it's only a few months!!!!!!!

Hi Kiwikodi, this forum really helps with the boredom, just searching through and reading other peoples stories.
i have to say the exante porridge i think is really nice, so fingers crossed you like it to....good luck on your exante journey :)

Hi Kiwikodi, I did LL 5yrs ago but I was only on it for 2 wks before my Dad was taken into hospital. I continued on it for another 6 wks and I am great full for the packs as I was living at the hospital and couldn't think of eating out of shear worry. By the time my Dad passed away I was the lightest I had been in years but who knows whether that would of happened anyway but they must of helped me stay healthier with all the vitamins. Anyway I am rambiling on, I am on my 2 wk with exante and started weighing a stone less than when I started LL, I decided to treat this as a positive and after my first wks loss of 9lb I am feeling really positive. I couldnt of got through my 1st wk without this forum, reading other people's story's tells you you are not alone. Keep positive and take 1 day at a time, it's amazing it works and it let's you be in control rather than food controlling us.

Hi kiwk. I also did LL a few years back. Must say I much prefer the milkshakes on exante though & the
results are just as good in regards to weight loss as long as you stick to it. You are right about the amount of time spent revolving around food, that's why when I am not at work I frequently come on to this forum. It really does help keep you occupied & motivated. Although you are not exercising yet, going for a walk is a good way to occupy your time as well as slowly introducing your body to gentle exercises. Good luck

Welcome and good luck :) xx

Hello,
I did L.L. 12 years ago and had a huge weight loss, If you would like to know more about my experience, have a look at my diary I have started in the diary section. I got into the same bad habits and alcohol was a big part of my routine. I am now on Exante and I am enjoying it, I am on week 2. I have found that being on packs only works for me. Some of my other posts may help too?
Good luck.

Wow, I post a message and people post back. How cool - lol. I have a question, was it wrong that in week one, 5 days in, to sit and watch 4 episodes back to back of Man vs Food??!!! I'm not sure it did my 'can't wait for the next shake' cravings any favors.

So the porridge was marginally better than LL, and LL porridge was foul. Struggling to enjoy a whole bar so gonna cut it up and 'pretend' its like crisps or something and pick on throughout the day. Soups, well I've read that the tomato and basil ain't good so I'm leaving that till last, but from the Thai chicken and tonight the mushroom, I'm
kinda getting my hopes up that it isn't going to be as bad as its made out to be. (can't get much worse).

Surely there's a 'replacement meal god' out there somewhere that can make these things taste more like food than.......Erm........not really sure how to describe them (well not on a pubic forum anyway). Ah well. 9 days down, 1.5 stone 'energised' away. Guess it can't be all bad ;-)

The tomato is actually one of my favourites :) I'm on the 1st day of my 2nd week. Ive lost 9lb and as much as it motivated me this morning, the feeling always wears off by tea time :( I don't want to put a downer on this thread but I've been reading a lot of posts lately with people 'restarting' after successfully losing weight with a VLCD previously but putting most if not all and sometimes more back on... I'm starting to worry that all this will be for nothing :( I know if I go back to my 3 takeaways a week (on a good week!) it'll pile back on & I'll never go back to that but I'm still worried! I've never been a salad person, if I was I wouldn't b on this diet. I just want to be normal. I'm sorry guys, my mind is just in overdrive and today has not been an easy day :( xx

I totally understand what you are saying jacobsmummy and I am sure that most of us have done this journey several times in our life with promises each time that we are not going to let this happen again but if we don't try what do we do because I'm not prepared to give up. I have been overweight since I was a child with about 6yrs in between time that I could actually say I was slim. My life is full of missed oppurtunitys but that is my fault, I let this happen to me, I found splice in food, I accepted that because I had had a bad day I deserved the comfort of a takeaway a film and something sweet. I have 4 children ranging from 26 to 15yrs, I am in the process of adopting a 5yr old little boy whom I have fostered since he was 6mths old, I have 1 grandchild and another on the way, I have so much to live for, I need to do it for me and them or a least know that I did my all.
You will notice there are so many I's but I think that is what is needed to achieve we need to focus on us and what we want, be a little bit selfish for a while.
I am sorry I seemed to of rambled on but I can't accept that there isn't a choice we are not doomed to fail unless we give up on ourselves. X

You sound so much like me (apart from the kids, I have just one boy, 18m old). I suppose I've just been listening to too many stories from people saying of you lose it fast it will go back on as soon as you start eating, even if I'm eating healthily! One step at a time tho eh :) let's get the weight off first! I'm feeling much more positive this morning and TOTM started yesterday so I must have just been a tad over emotional lol! x

So Im doing exante, and the other half is doing Slimming World (well kinda). Not the easiest combination considering what she eats every night while I sip away at my soup. But to be fair, I lost 3 stone on SW last year (then put it back on). So this time my plan is to drop the bulk (say 6 stone) then move to something like SW with added exercise and a healthy lifestyle. Its all about choice really, and I not longer choose to be fat!!

That's exactly what I'm going to do Kiwi! Slow and steady is not for me as I have so much to lose. I have to see it working in the first few weeks or else I just give up. I'll probably lose about half a stone more than I need to and then join WW to maintain, I then have a half stone buffer to get my body used to real food again! I'm on my first day of week 2. I lost 9lb in week one so I'm off to a good start and still motivated (well until about 7pm tonight lol) :) x

Jacobsmummy - what you must take into consideration with your worried about VLCD is that the majority of people who get to goal and maintain will no longer post on here. I know 2 people that have done LL and one is maintaining after 18 months and the other has maintained for 4 years. They have got into a positive and healthy routine with food and exercise and it just feels normal for them now.

I plan on joining WW for the last stone (ish) of this diet so that I can get into the right frame of mind of what a sensible amount of food is for my new and smaller shape. I have done WW in the past so know I am happy with the way it's done. I wanted to do exante as a big fat kick start!

Hi, I did LL Afew years ago and did lose a lot of weight I was a very happy confident person, now 2 years later I m back where I started, miserable and I don't socialise at all and of course when I get depressed I binge eat. Anyway this my 2nd day on exante going very well. Wish I ordered porridge too cos I didn't like the LL one the only thing I have ordered were the shakes, never mind, are the bars and soups nice? Also this forum is brill its so nice to talk to so many nice people. Anyway Kiwi good luck we're in this together.x

Hi Les. Firstly the porridge. Well it ain't Quaker and a golden syrup flavor isn't on the cards but as far as comparing with LL, exante is a lot better - although you need to buy 50 for the cheaper option. I emailed exante and asked for a sample and they sent me one. As for the bars, I really liked the LL cranberry bars - the exante bars are ok, easily palatable. A lot bigger and thicker than LL, I won't eat a whole one in one sitting. And soups - don't expect too much, the Thai chicken has that chemical taste hidden behind the subtle thai flavor. The mushroom is not as nice as LL. had vegetable last night that was nice and tonight - its gonna be tomato and basil (which I'm not looking forward too - although jacobsmummy seems to like it). I always make it with 300-350mls water otherwise it's too thick. I've not added any seasonings etc to any of the yet, but plan in it for the next round. Hoping the rest if the shakes are ok. It feels like a punishment, but as weeks go by it'll all be worth it.

The Thai and veg soups are lovely with a bit of cayenne pepper.
