syns and snacks

I have syns everyday! Usually crisp type snacks and/ or hifi bar and hot choc with some variations of course. Think I do need to work on reducing them now and maybe saving some up for weekends etc for a drink or two. Just need to play around with that and adapt I think.
Do the people at your group who don't syn have great losses? Or do they have hidden syns they don't relaise anyway?

I hate to put a downer on anyone's journey, but these people are either kidding themselves or will not stick it long-term.

The beauty of SW is how 'normal' it feels- that is why it feels like a lifestyle change and not a diet- and part of 'normal' life it the occasional treat- otherwise we would go mad

Eat your syns, and enjoy them!- they are as much part of the plan as HEX's and free food.

A friend of a friend has just started SW and was told by her consultant that they should be trying not to use ANY syns!!:eek::eek::eek: How ridiculous! Syns are there to be enjoyed and stop us feeling deprived. I average about 10 per day and am satisfied with my choccy most days :D

I always have at least 10 syns a day and do you know what, i dam well enjoy them!
Without syns i'd feel like i was on a strict diet.

I don't have many really - I have a chocy bar most day's (kelloggs fibre plus bar), but this is my HEb choice. Other days I tend to have yogurts as my puddings & so don't need them.

I don't feel I am depriving myself as do have them when/where needed like a few glasses of wine at weekends etc, but again, thats not all the time.

I agree with cocktail princess, by having some syns it does make you feel like you are eating 'normally' and you are more likely to stick to it.

I cant imagine having no syns at all, it doesnt sound right the c telling people not to have any syns, if thats what sw intended they wouldnt put them in the program.

Use them and enjoy them.

I sometimes struggle to use mine in a day and think I'm being clever if I don't need them which is the wrong attitude and I've just realised I actually do better at WI the weeks I have used my syns. Whether that's just because I feel better not being ridiculously strict with myself so I eat better generally or whether it's because it's actually helping my body by giving it something to nibble on and then continue with the rest of the fat I don't know but it's working.

We are all different with how much we need to lose and how our bodies work but try and use 5 minimum if you can. :)

i use mine for wine at weekends, but saying that i had 2 glasses last night... I agree that the syns are there to help you make a life change eating plan and not a quick fix to lose weight. One of the girls has lost nearly 3st in around 3 months by doing this, but when she talks about what she eats it seems to be just chicken and veg, that would really bore me. x

I use 15 every day and snack in between meals, abeit only when hungrey. Don't deprive youself and like others say the reconmendation is between 5-15 - hence why they have a low syn book etc

Good for her losing the weight, but realistically, how long will she continue eating chicken and veg once she is at target!?! It's certainly not a recipe for maintaining.

I agree Margery Dawe. Our Consultant is always telling us that SW is not a diet, but a healthy eating plan for life. One girl in our class is 3lbs away from target after loosing just over 6 stone, in about a year. She has a packet of crisps every day and says that if she had tried to cut them out, she never would have lost anything.

I have 15 syns a day.
3stone in 3 months sounds great but doing the way she is when the weight starts to so down she has nothing to cut back and will stop losing and give up.
if you r decicated each week no slip ups like we all have 3 stone in 3 months or so is achievable with syns its 3.5 loss a week. but i'd rather have the slip up cause it means I am learning ready to live a normal life.

i usually have about 10-13 a day, why not use them???

i love using them!! think you would go off track if you didnt use them

its a mixture for me! If i know i have something going on at the weekend I will try to have only maybe a couple each day, and then use say 40 at the weekend?
If i know I have nothing planned like a meal out or drinks etc, then I will have a couple a day. some days none, some days ten! all just depends really. Today so far I have used none, and am likely not to have any - whereas yesterday I had 2.5 on a hot choc and tomorrow i'll proba have 10 as its a friday night and I do like a glass of wine or pudding with dinner as its an end of week relax and treat :eek:)

On the whole - be it spread out across the week or used in one hit I tend to have between 50 - 70 per week. If I use the full 105 (15 per day) then i am guaranteed to STS.

I use syns every day, sometimes for cheese or ryvita, sometimes for chocolate and crisps.
I do try not to snack between meals, if I do it's normally a piece of fruit. My theory is to eat more at meals so you are satisfied and then you won't feel the need to snack - it works for me but not for everyone.

I agree with the others though, if you don't have your syns from the start there's nothing to cut down on when the going gets tough.
