could you possibly post what the error message says and what operating system you have, eg, xp, vista, as my hubby fix computers and might be able to help without you spending money at computer shop.

It says:

Class not registered.
You need the following file to be installed to your machine.
MSSTDFMT.DLL

First get the .Dll from here -www.dll-files.com - Error downloading the file, make sure you unzip it before putting in folder.
Then click start, then run. Type the following into the run box C:\WINDOWS\system32
(Assuming that your hard-drive is C, if it isn't just change the first letter to that of your hard drive) Press enter and place the .dll anywhere in that file

Now go back to the run box and type

regsvr32 C:\Windows\msstdfmt.dll (again assuming hard drive is C)

In my start menu I don't seem to have a 'run' option

it's on the bottom right, just above, shut down button.

Nope it's not there! I have got a search box on the left and the shut down options on the right. Above that I have got Help and support, default programmes and control panel. No Run option

I give up! I'm going to take it down to the PC shop in the week and see if they can help. It keeps coming up with other errors
