Things to do in Vegas!!??!!

Proud to be a LOSER :)
Hey guys,

Going to Las Vegas next week with my boyfriend. We are going while he is working (he is a flight attendant with Virgin Atlantic) so we aren't there very long.

We land about 3pm on Weds, are there all day Thursday and then fly back about 2pm on Friday. My boyfriend has been there before so has a few suggestions.

Just wondering if anyone else here has any suggestions - things to do, things to see (for free or for a price). We are tempted for the helicopter flight over Vegas but it's about $100 each  lol a reasonable price apparently but not for a 12-15min flight?

We deffo wanna do the rides on stratosphere, see the lions at MGM, and the Bellagio fountains!

I've only been to USA once (South Carolina & 4 days in Orlando) and this is my and my boyfriend's first holiday together - so am very excited!! xxx

PS. On a Slimming World note, any food suggestion would be appreciated. I mean, I'm not gonna go mad, nor am I gonna stick to SW to the letter (I miss my weigh in as i don't land until 11am saturday!) but i still dont wanna put on 2 weeks worth of weight in 3 days!! So food suggestions appreciated too!!

America & SW don't mix! - at least Florida and SW didn't;)

Do the helicopter trip otherwise you'll regret not doing it when you return. Get into the Nevada desert - I think you'll get fed up of the gambling after a short while.

Haha I agree!! No wonder USA has this "fat" stereotype, they have too many food choices in bulk lol!!! The iHop was a personal favourite of mine - and the huuuge turkey legs they sold at Universal/Islands of Adventure!!

You're right! I would love to see the Grand Canyon but I don't think we'll have time and I think it's meant to be very expensive :( lol also the rides on Stratosphere look scary, even for me, but again I'll not have many chances to go to Vegas so will have to face my fears lol - Alton Towers won't ever look scary again after this lol!! xx

Las Vegas is amazing! Though I went a few years ago, from what I remember food wise sticking with SW is near impossible! Aha! though the fruit in the breakfast buffet was delish! :) have a brilliant time, wish I was going again :) and you'll have no problem finding things to do, there's actually too much to pack into just one holiday!

I went a few years ago now and loved it. I did the rides on the top of the stratosphere....... Well I say rides, I only managed one, but the people I was with did the others. Even though I am now so frightened of them, it was one of the best experiences ever and over 6 years later it is one of our favourite topics of convo when we all get together.
There is loads to see, each hotel in itself is an attraction. There is a good rollercoaster at New York New York hotel too ( this is roughly opposite MGM) we took in a magic show too. Will be going back one day and can't wait.
P.S forget SW & enjoy xx

Do the helicopter ride into the Grand Canyon, with the stop at the bottom of the canyon and the picnic lunch. They will fetch you and return you to your hotel. Its pricey but worth every pennie. Or hire a car and go to the Hoover dam.

The hotels have massive buffets, so you can choose what you want. So you can still do SW but you can easily go over the top as well.

Or just walk the strip with all its crazy people.

Vegas is one of those place, you just go with the flow or what you feel like at the moment in time. Loads to see and do, 24/7

Enjoy

Stratosphere definitely and the lights at Freemont Street are well worth a visit - you can get a bus along there as it is slightly further than the main strip. Tbh you don't have much time there so you will probably just wander from hotel to hotel taking it all in. It takes ages to walk between each one because they are so massive! Have a great time x

I went 7 years ago when I was 14, but The Mirage hotel was fab - had dolphins! :D Loved it. Hoover Dam is defo worth a visit, and I would definitely recommend the helicopter flight to Grand Canyon - one of the most amazing things I have done in my life. All the Venician Hotel, as you can take a Gondola round the hotel. Hope you have a fab time. x

I last went about 12 years ago, but loved it. Just walking the strip and taking it all in was enough for me, although we did explore each hotel and casino. There was a pirate themed hotel, which did pirate themes each night. We did up the Stratosphere, but it was too windy to do the rides. Maybe try and catch a show, there's plenty there. Shopping in Ceasers Palace is fab too!

Thanks for all the advice guys - i'm glad you all enjoyed your time there because it's made me even more excited to go :) thanks!! xx

How exciting, I loved Vegas. When we went we:-
Saw a few shows
Took a taxi around Red Rock Canyon
Went in most hotels for a nosey
Visited the Elvis museum
Did rides on Stratosphere
Helicopter & lunch - Grand Canyon
Watched light show on Freemont Street

I can't comment on the food as I wasn't doing SW when we went. Whatever you decide to do you'll have a brill time.

If you are feeling flush try & get a table at CraftSteak in the MGM. Not even remotely SE friendly, but theIr steak is the best i have ever had, & they do the most amazing bread & butter broiche pudding.

Its pretty expensive (about ($500 for 2 of you for the set menu) but AMAZING! I went there with the OH about 4 years ago after we both got bonuses at work.

Blimey i'd need to sell a kidney to pay for that lol does sound amazing though - very jealous!! I do like a tasty bit of steak! Maybe my OH will treat me hehehe xx

To be fair, so would i now!! I think we got drunk before we went & ended up having the set menu & 2 bottles of wine - hence the price! You can def eat really good steak in vegas though in general. They do kobe beef (also known as wagu beef) which comes from japanese cows feed on beer and massaged every day (only in japan!). I've only seen it there. You can even get burgers made from it!

Flippin eck,:eek: I don't think I could ever pay that much for food.:p

Mmm those massaged cows sound tasty!!

I'm a huge animal lover - so when I just read about Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden I nearly died :D from what I read it's at the Mirage hotel, has white lions, white tigers etc, and dolphins and is $17 each. Has anyone done this before?? If so do you HAVE to book online in advance or can you buy tickets on the day?

Also any typical Vegas chapels you'd suggest? No no I'm not taking the plunge with my fella - but would love to see em and get some cheesy snaps... if not just to scare my mum when she sees our holiday pics hehehe!!

Didn't really take much notice of them tbh! I was there for work, and the OH was able to come with for a bit, but alot of my time there was spent in seminar rooms being bored stupid. Frankly the only reason we could afford the expenaive meal was cos we'd not had to pay for my flight or our hotel!

you could buy alot of scanbran for that sort of dosh!
