top tips?

i am a returning sw member.
i last followed the plan in 2009 and lost well.
at the start of the year i broke my ankle, two places on the fibula.fortunately i heard the bone break and so didn't put my foot down.meaning that the bones stayed in place.however, due the type of break i was unable to bear any weight on the foot for fear of the bone moving and then needing metal work surgery.i had to stay in plaster for 8 weeks, leg elevated ersting doing absolutely nada!I had the plaster off 3 weeks ago and am still unable to bear weight on the ankle and am still on full crutches.
over the last 3 months i have been gaining weight and am going to return to sw from home for now.but,as soon as i can stand properly to be weighed i will probably join a nearby club again.
i will follow the eaxtra easy plan and my question is what are your top tips using sw?

Plan for your week ahead then shop for it and dont put any little extras in your trolly. Read and re read your book.Try out new recipes, Read peoples food diarys on here, full of great ideas. And last of all , good luck.:)

Definately plan your food daily, or even weekly. Make sure you don't run out of the good stuff so you'll be less tempted to raid the naughty things. Lots of luck xx

Keep a written food diary and write down everything you eat and drink really helps motivate you when you can see how well your eating also helps to look back and see when you had better losses x

My top tip? Believe in the plan, and most importantly, believe in yourself.

You might do this already, but just in case it's worth pointing out...make sure you drink lots of water (you can have it with no added sugar squash if you prefer)...a lot of people find it really aids their weight loss! (and if it doesn't aid your weight loss, you'll feel better for drinking plenty of water anyway!...it's definitely improved my skin!) :)

Keeping a food diary is probably my number one top tip (as also mentioned above!)...I've kept one every week and it's really helped me maintain focus!

...other tip - try and only weigh yourself once a week, same time/day etc. - you'll probably already know from before that your weight can fluctuate significantly throughout the week, and some people get disheartened when they find themselves heavier midweek (or even think they have more flex to have more syns if they have a significant loss in the middle of the week!)...if you're not affected by this, and you're a serial weigher (like me!) then it's still ok (I still only have one 'official' weigh in at group)...but if you think this might affect your commitment to the plan then make sure you only weigh in once a week!

Above all else...follow the plan and you can't go wrong...good luck :)

Have a well stocked kitchen with plenty of choice of sw friendly foods. That way theres always something healthy to eat and youre not tempted by rubbish if you dont have it in! I also have a stash of quick things like mug shots in my drawer at work again incase In hungry or held up in work etc.

MY tips: Stick to slimming world 100%, so no tweaks!
Plan your meals and your shopping list and stick to it!
Variety, keep it interesting. Try a new recipe every week. Try new fruits and veggies etc!
Drink your water! It's good for your weightloss, flushes out fat and toxins, makes you feel good and helps in the loo, lol. If your eating your veggies, fruit and beans etc you need the water to help flush the fibre through (if you know what I mean, lol)
For me, I have 1/2 super free and watch how much I'm having of the carby stuff!

Hopes this helps :)

Sorry to hear that I am in the same situation - bad ankle break with pins and plates put in, still recovering and off work though had cast off for over 2 months now. Ate a lot due to boredom and being housebound that's why I rejoined sw. You can do it too! :) x

awwe sorry to hear about you to breaking your ankle.i really can empathise.
have you been having physio?i am wondering what stage you are at.were you unable to weu=ight bear for the time you were in plaster as my physio keeps reassuring me that it is taking so long to get walking again due to that?how about you?

Yeah non weight bearing for me too. Initially I was frustrated as I thought when the plaster was
off that would be the worst of it over. Just keep up the exercises the physio gives you and the hardest part I found was the mental aspect of getting over the fear as being housebound for so long had left me quite nervous of walking especially by myself. You will notice each week you can maybe do a little more than before, no instant magic but it will improve. Any questions or worries I can help you with feel free to pm me or whatever x

you are so right about thinking that once the bone was fixed you would be able to walk again soon.
i had mine off on 7/3 so that is 3 and 1/2 weeks and it was wednesday when i stood unaided(washing up) and thought i was standing quite even and didn't feel like i was going to fall over.so i tried to walk unaided and was surprised i could manage a sort of hobble.extremely painful though.i did a bit of hobbling the following day too anfd then on friday my ankle was so swollen all day and very red so i reckoned i had over done it-lol!
however today i am back to hobbling and walking with just 1 full crutch so maybe if i keep practicing and doing my strengthening exercise my physio may reward me with a stick-yay!
how are you managing at the moment, what sort of exercises do you do?

Can you use the foot to walk normally with both crutches for support? Next for me was then getting around the house with one crutch and then none. Eventually I moved on to being able to get about outside with one crutch, I have been able to get about the house with no crutches for quite a while now but still need one for outside as lack the confidence for that yet. Yup if you do a little too much the ankle will swell and hurt again just elevate it and try a little bit again the next day, your ankle will hurt to tell you when you are doing too much. Once you stop expecting miracles it's a lot easier to handle, you will see gradual improvements :) x

Oh and exercises I mostly just do walking and the physio exercises - resistance band things and stretches mostly. Have now also been advised to try swimming and exercise bike but that will come a bit later on for you x

yes you are right.
i have gone from 2 full crutches to just one in and out of the house now.although i really don't go far-school runs and up n down garden.
i so cannot wait to get back too normal but there simply is no rushing this process is there.
how did you do your injury?if you don't mind me asking?

You are doing really well then, it took me quite a few weeks to get to one crutch outside :) best just to rest it and elevate it when it gets sore rather than get too reliant on painkillers. I broke it playing roller derby it's a contact sport on roller skates! Loved it but these things happen, what about you? I think the hardest part for me was getting used to being off work for so long wierd having so much free time to fill and not being able to do too much! Broke it at start of dec and still off work (11hour shifts standing the whole time) but hopefully be back in few weeks or so. X

i am still taking full ibuprofen all day.i do try some mornings if its not too painful but usually end up needing them midmorning.
i reckon your break was alot worse by the sounds of it.
i just stepped out of our back door, went over on my right anklle n bounced twice on that but just sprained that one.then as my weight shifted to my left foot i spiralled around trapping my left foot behind my right i think and then rolled the ankle outwards and heard a snap sound.i guessed something was broken and then the swelling began.a&e confirmed two breaks in my fibula.one on the bigger boney part and one further up too.they said they were spiral breaks and were consistent with stepping down from a too high step and turning around.there was n actual spiral mark on the floor that my trainers had left.
lucky for me i didn't put any weight on it and the bones didn't move so surgery was not needed.however because of the two breaks on the one bone i was then unable to bear any weight on it for 8 weeks in plaster

hello there icklerockchick,
i am hoping you pick this up.
i am just wondering how you are going on with your ankle.
i see my specialist on friday and am hoping that he no longer wants to see me.
i'm off regular painrelief now, just as and when needed.
i still walk with a limp at the mo,but no stick etc.physio isn't overly concerned but will be happy when specialist discharges me-thinks it's taking a bit extra due to 8weeks non weight bearing.
isn't it all a real drag?!can't wait to feel right again and to have to think which leg did i break.
