Hi All, it's good to be back.
I'm now 4 days post op and doing ok. Here's the low down:
Arrived at Bupa at 12 o'clock last Thurs as requested. I was shown to my room and saw the nurse about 20mins later for last details. The consultant then came to see me, drew all over tummy & boobs and showed me where my nipples would end up - omg a good two inches higher than they were, saggy or what
He told me that I would probably be first into surgery & would be in shortly. This didn't quite work out, I eventually walked to theatre about 4.15 and was put to sleep at 4.30pm. I was very calm for some weird reason
& joking about with the theatre nurses.
Anyway, next thing I knew it was 7.10pm, I was in recovery & in bloody agaony. My boobs and stomach were killing me but a good shot of morphine soon sorted that out. Felt quite sick so was also given a blast of anti-sickness (might as well have the drugs available
).
Back in my room, I rang my hubby to tell him I was back but he was already almost back at the hospital. I had to have 3 nurses to help me sit up enough for them to be able to put my sports bra on - absolute agony. The sports bra & the binder together with the lovely socks - what a sight
Anyway, was pretty groggy that night with the morphine. I also had a PCA, you know the morphine through a driver that you can operate yourself, brill.
Was dying for a wee at midnight but after 30mins on a bedpan with the tap running in the bathroom, I still couldn't go. The nurse said to try not to worry about it and try again later. I left it & ate my prawn sandwiches, nice cup of coffee & some more groggy making pain killers
2am & I was desperate for a wee, this bedpan lark is the most unnatural position in the world for having a pee
I sat on it for nearly 45mins, eventually success, hurrah.
By 6am I needed a wee again!!! I'd been drinking so much water due to a dry mouth from the anaesthetic. This time the nurse suggested getting up to the toilet. I was sh...ing myself. This was less than 12 hrs after surgery and boobs & tummy were trussed up like a chicken
Anyway, I gradually got up with the help of the brill bed and the nurse & went to the loo - it was only about 6 steps from my bed but felt like I'd done a marathon by time I got back. Really woozy but it was great to sit on a toilet!!!
I've had a few problems with really large blisters forming around the edge of dressings. On Fri they had to remove all the foam dressings as two 3inch blisters had formed. This meant taking off all the dressings, which was great cos I could see what had been done. Well pleased, so is hubby & my step daughter was there & really impressed too.
The blisters have coninued to cause me problems though as they have oviously burst & then have become stuck to the binder and mepore or underwear & I was in agony this morning.
Anyway it's great to be home & have had 2 nights in my own bed (on my own of course, hubby is banned
).
As soon as i can I'll get some photos on here. My boobs have never been where they are now
And even my teenage boys can't believe how flat my stomach is.
Obviously lots of healing up to go yet but it's not so bad. I'm managing during the day with just paracetamol & ibuprofen and only using stronger painkillers at night - not for increased pain but just to try to help me sleep better really.
I'm really tired most of the time but that's to be expected, just terrible being waited on & lying around reading & watching tv. Have been & done the shopping today in tesco - ONLINE though
arty0011:. I'm pottering around but not able to do anything. Walking like an 80yr old woman as can't straighten out for a while, and looking like a freak with the awful socks still on and the binder which is driving me crazy & makes me so hot. But nevermind, can't wait to have my appointment with the nurse at BUPA on Thurs as she will take off the remaining dressings and I'll be able to see what's been done properly.
Will post again soon, better go & lie down again now.
Thanks for all the messages of support :thankyou:
It's all been worth it!!!!
