Pure quorn as in quorn mince - other quorn products may have extras in ... ie breadcrumbs or cheese ...

You can buy frozen quorn mince in veggie freezer section. Yes you can add herbs and spices - I use to make a cauliflower/broccoli and qourn curry which was lovely! Otherwise I used one of my soups made with less water as a sauce ....

Quorn is made from mushrooms, i know this cos i have a serious reaction to mushrooms, like some do with peanuts.

I got this from asking Google what exactly is in Quorn....
Quorn is the brand name of meat substitutes that are made from a vat-grown fungus. Some people have dangerous allergic reactions to the fungus and suffer nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and occasionally hives or difficulty breathing. Some people react the first time they eat Quorn, while some react only after building up a sensitivity.

Quorn is made from a less appetizing fungus (or mold) called Fusarium venenatum.

I think i shall stick to my chicken thank you! lol!

I stop breathing if i have something with mushrooms in, like a dreadful type of asthma.

But my friends eat it all the time, and make curries and much more from it, so i guess its fine with some. I am told its like mince.

Pre CD I used to eat a lot of quorn...not a strict veggie, I eat chicken and fish, but most of our meals are more veggie than meaty.
You can buy quorn pieces, but to be honest, I'd just stick to the chicken pieces, as quorn is pretty bland without a sauce of some kind. Also, if you overcook it it's pretty grim. Not sure how it would be cold either, whereas we all know cold chicken is yum.
The escalopes are lush, but out of bounds, as someone else said, they are covered in breadcrumbs and have other stuff in them (the broccoli and cheddar ones, mmm, *droooooooooool!*)
The sausages...icky in my opinion, but again, don't know if they'd be acceptable for CD.

I know that when I get to AAM or SS+ I will be doing chicken/tuna rather than quorn.

Oh no, I love quorn! Since discovering it on CD I now prefer it to chicken.

And as a true carbivore, I never thought that would ever be the case!

One of my friends tried it, the quorn pieces, and said she thought it tasted like the pressed chicked you buy in slices to put on sandwiches, and I think she might be right, but anyway, try it for yourself as you just might love it too :)

So when I hav to have a meal further down the line it is the MINCE I can have not the chicken pieces?

I have only ever had the mince cooked in a sauce or gravy, how do you cook it alone??

No you can have the Quorn pieces too - they're just the same thing as the mince but little cubes.

The pieces are fab for making casseroles ( i used it a lot when i did WW) and i guess you could make sort-of CD casserole. Thinking the savoury veg powder as stock, plenty of fresh herbs, quorn & selection of veg from the allowance? Maybe some chicken & mush powder to thicken a bit?

Ooooh have just made myself quite hungry lol :D

hi, last time i went to tesco and ask about quorn and tofu, they show me a section where most of the products have the sign quorn on it and majority where vegeterian ingredient.

    Guess?!
As Bev has said, the plain Quorn mince and pieces are the only acceptable products - just wanted to add that the pieces are actually confusingly called "chicken style pieces", but have no flavourings, as do the other products such as escalopes and sausages.

    Hope that helps.
