    Thanks Chris and Scooter. Those machines sound like a great idea! I tried doubling the starter and adding them at 105 degrees, and while it was definitely yoghurt, it wasn't particularly thick. It was a little slimy too! I might look into the lakeland yoghurt maker instead.

    Hi DWTBFA5 Thanks for your reply! :-) Yes, I am using UHT milk. I left the milk for 3 hours the first time and got the same result which is why I bought the thermometer. Maybe I'll leave it til 100 degrees then? Also someone else online suggests 2tbs of starter so might try that.
