Any one in to cake making or cake design? Xx

I agree it needs lots of practice. I've not made many but do tend to make for family and friends as an excuse lol. I'd love to see your pics, get posting more ;) they sound great! X

:D they're great. Particularly the shed!! Was that your second cake? You've a natural ability for this!! Xxx

Yep, the shed was cake number two. Thanks for the compliments but as I said, I'm not sure I can afford the time or materials to practice that much. Doing the cake did hurt too - I was in pain for two days having been hunched over the kitchen work-surface for too long.

It was fun though.

Yeah that does hurt. It's odd but I find it strangely therapeutic lol. Think it's the sense of achieving something x

Wow!! All your cakes are brilliant!!!

I love seeing photos of cakes - I did night classes for 4 years along time ago, when I had more spare time!! I just make cupcake and cake toppers now for the cake makers - I specialise in rice paper butterflies!

Don't look too closely at the icing - they are false cakes and iced in a rush as I had a "helping" teen that wanted to get the butterflies on ASAP!! and we all know what happens when you rush!!! disaster strikes!! hehe!!

I have edible ink printers that print onto rice paper or icing sheets - so you can basically do any colour you like!! brilliant if you're trying to match colours etc...

really easy to use too! just cut your shape and go!! hehe!! I have people coming to me from all over the world buying them!! seems butterflies are the in-thing at the moment!! hehe

They really are great :) will have to keep you I mind should I ever need any x

yes please do - they look lovely on cup cakes too - but I can't find any pics of those!!

Has anyone got any funny cake stories??? I have a "cake" friend and we both sit and giggle over "mishaps"!!

I dropped the 2nd tier of a wedding cake once on to the floor!! but it landed in the dogs dinner bowl!!! I managed to salvage it!! it was for my boss!! haha!!!! I cringed when they cut it at the reception! haha!!!! Had a big gulp of champagne and smiled!!! lol

Another story I heard was a lady had made a wedding cake, left it in the kitchen as you do for the wedding the next day, but when they came down the next morning, it was litterally black - an ants nest has smelt the sugar and decided to come in and nibble it!!! she was very quick thinking - she hoovered the ants off it!! hehe!!!! Ever since I heard that story, I kept all finished cakes upstairs!! hehe

Any other funny stories???

These are some cakes I made this week for a fair I was asked to sell cakes at.

A few of the 70 odd cupcakes I made.

A Bluenose cake - was it edible? :p

I guess if nothing else it went DOWN well! :D

Joking aside, you did a cracking job. Did you serve it on the glass - that would have been cool?

Those cakes of yours look impressive too ellen. I've only ever tried cupcakes once and although they looked ok they weren't edible. I really don't think using wholemeal flour helped!

Luckily I'm married to a skinny cakeaholic so I can practice if I want, knowing they won't go to waste and I won't be getting fat. :)

Yawn!! You're about the third person to tell me that joke lol. yep left it on the glass x

Skinny cakeaholic... How jealous am I. I want to be able to eat cake and be skinny, I only look at it and gain a stone lol x

Anyone else getting the cake decorating mag? What do you think. Hoping to try some ri biscuits this week xxx

I don't find it too bad to be often - it's difficult not tasting but as the cakes normally go somewhere it's not as though they're sitting round to eat if you know what i mean. I'm making a football cake for friday along with some cupcakes and i've promised the kids i'll make some for home - but i'll just make a batch of 18 so there's only 6 around in the house at any time. Kids love when i make cupcakes as i let them decorate them with the sprinkles lol x
