Hey Kim, I do quite like long runs (I've done two marathons) but usually stick to 10km as am conscious that it's not great on the knees. I am definitely more of a plodder than a speed person but trying to get better at running quicker. I read this running book that reckons you have to get "used" to that uncomfortable feeling when you're running fast.
My boyf sounds like your hubby - v into fitness. Think it's definitely more motivating if you both enjoy it.
I have no idea how you can do the bike for so long - I'm completely rubbish - have to force myself to go spinning but guess it must be good for toning
