Can I do the CD?

IrishMum

A little of everything!
I was bulimic for nearly 20yrs but have been recovered (so to say) for 8mths or so. :)I also have an underactive thyroid. I've been cal counting for months now and while I lost at the beginning I've now started to gain again, with no changes to my diet? :confused:My TSH levels are stable so they shouldn't figure. I have been so good at eating healthy, and sticking to my 1200cals a day target, its been very disheartening to start gaining again for no reason? :confused:I've been looking into VLCD and thought this might be the answer? Can anyone advise?

Yes, I knew that. He's of the 'eat less, exercise more' school of thought so I think he wont' be very sympathetic to my weight worries? :confused:He probably would sign off on the CD though, but I was wondering if it was suitable for me with my previous history and the fact that I'm not losing eating 1200cals a day? He probably is the best person to ask..I'm just confused & a little pi**ed off I guess?

Anyone else any advice?

I'm sure there will be more replies soon enough but I just wanted to add that when you do SS or SS+ you will be consuming between 400-600 calories a day and it would be quite impossible not to lose weight on that amount of calories even though you might suffer from sts occasionally.
I have also suffered from bulimia, although not for 20 yrs, but CD has not triggered anything and I feel better than I have done in years.

:D

Why not make an appointment with your CDC and discuss which diet would be best for you? Maybe you could have an informal chat over the phone.
You have already lost a fantastic amount so you don't have that much left to go.
Perhaps the CD step 2 would see off those last few pounds. Good Luck with whatever you decide to go for.

Thanks for replying Ladies- I felt like I was talking to myself for a bit there! LOL! I have made initial contact via email to a CDC who was concerned that I only stopped purging in January. I reassured her that I had NEVER binged, I purged what I did allow myself to eat (regular meals) so I don't know how to explain that? I told her that since then I'd consistently eaten between 900(bad day) and 1200(good day) calories a day, and was losing on that initially. I saw that I COULD lose weight by eating & keeping it in, so I honestly don't think it will be a 'solution' ever again? I should hear back from her in the next day or so, so I'll see what she suggests. I really think it could be worth a try though? Especially when I read all the successes on here. I'm not looking for a quick fix, this is a new way of life for me, but its so discouraging to be doing everything 'right' and not seeing results? Thanks again for replying. Xx

PS- Penpen, what is STS?

Hi

I have waited to respond until I had a definitive answer from CD Head Office.

Although it seems harsh unfortunately due to your history you are contraindicated and therefore cannot use any of the programmes.

Having said that, however, if your Eating Disorder Specialist writes a letter allowing you to use CD and is willing to take responsibility for this based on his/her knowledge of your condition, this will be reviewed by our Medical Director.

The best thing to do is ask your nearest CDC to prepare a letter for the ED specialist with all the necessary information and ask them to write a letter of support for you.

Hope everything works out for you.

Hi again, I've just had the same response from my area CDC. Unfortunately I have never been diagnosed as bulimic or gotten/sought help from any official source, so do not have an ED Specialist. It seems harsh that although I feel I have totally overcome this problem that it'll prevent me trying the CD- how long do you have to be 'recovered', or what if I hadn't said anything about it at all?...
I guess I'll have to make an appointment with my GP & see what he suggests?
Thanks for all your help Ladies, I will get there in the end- I haven't got this far to stop now! Thanks & good luck to all!

Have you tried 'upping' your calories?

I know it sounds weird, but it can help. Very best of luck. It's so disheartening when you are doing all the right things and the bloomin scales aren't playing nicely :(

Oh..and fab work on sorting the bulimia. That's a great achievement

Maybe a letter from your GP in support would suffice go and see him, again, armed with all the information and explain your situation fully with him.

You need to get your GP to sign your form also due to your underactive thyroid.

Thanks KD, it was always a lonesome battle, but I also achieved victory on my own, so I am happy about that. :happy036:I have upped my cals to a steady 1100-1200 a day for the past 5-6wks, and I KNOW that a normal person who eats that is NOT usually fat- I'm hoping my old problem and my years of yo-yo'ing have screwed up my metabolism (well, that and my thyroid..I'm full of battles aren't I! LOL!) and its just taking its time getting back on track. I think I'll hold off on the CD for a while. I don't want my GP to latch onto my past food issues as why I'm not losing iykwim- I'd rather he gives me unbiased advice? I feel if I bring it up now when I'm looking for advice on losing weight that he'll latch onto it and be blinkered by it. Thanks everyone for all your help and advice, it's much appreciated, I just need to keep positive. Thanks again:thankyou:
