I wonder if anyone can answer this for me - I'm only a low cal diet of fruit, fish, meat and veg mostly but after reading up on a few things I've realized that although they're low in fat & calories they're high in carbs. For example all my fruit, tomatoes, sprouts, slim a soup......the list goes on! I have cut out bread, potatoes and pasta though. Do you think I should cut my fruit and change my choices? I'm confused!!! :sigh:

I don't cut out carbs but follow the lowGI , which uses good carbs not loads of bread/pots ect.

I have a carb at lunch, so today I had pasta and tuna with chillis on a bed of spinach, and tonight I won't have carbs I will be having quorn fillets and white/green vegetables. I get really bloated on cabs too, so trying not to have any after lunch (apart from fruits, as in main meals)

I ber I made no sence then lol xx

It's such a minefield! I don't think it would be healthy to cut out fruit and veg though just because they have carbs in do you??? Surely your body needs some? I know the fastest weight loss programmes such as Atkins and Cambridge cut them out altogether but.........

Your body needs carbs, it needs a balanced healthy diet:D

Maybe following lowgi/ along with calorie counting would be good for you too

Not at all. Fruit is good :)

Keep protein up as it'll help keep you satisfied, so less likely to pick over your calories, and chose good carbs like veg, fruit, legumes and whole grains.

Carbs don't make us fat. Too many calories make us fat ;)

BTW, they don't cut them out, just keep them low :) There's a fair few carbs in a CD shake ;)

I think I'll just keep doing what I'm doing as it seems to be going ok! I am now hardly ever hungry and struggle to finish my evening meal due to the volume of veg! This is good though as before I HAD to finish what was on my plate. I kind of like that slightly empty feeling in my stomach too - it makes me feel thinner! This was my biggest problem when I started my diet - hunger! I persevered though and now my stomach has shrunk I think.

    That's the ticket

I think that we are often scared of hunger. Good to have enough not to feel hunger, but there again, a bit of hunger between meals doesn't hurt. Well...as long as it doesn't make us eat everything in sight later on :D

I know what you mean - lol! The catering for my daughter's 21st a few days ago was mini doner kebabs with homemade chips - now that was a challenge not to sucumb to them!! (I didn't totally succeed but I don't think 4 chips count for much!!) ;)

Nah..you're safe. Calorie counting, or any of the traditional types of diets aren't about cutting out stuff, just limiting. Preferably limiting the junk, and increasing the good food. Besides...Vit C in chips  :D

Ha! Had dinner party last night and didn't do so well. It's really hard to not offend the host so had to have all the courses (but I abstained from the pud!) It was a pasta starter so I just ate half and I didn't eat any of the deep fried new potatoes with the main - just had the meat and veg. I did have some cheese though! The trouble is I just felt SO guilty eating it and to be honest my stomach rebelled a bit in the early hours of the morning! Still lost 2 lbs this week though!

Carbs are necessary for a healthy diet, but there are some that are more beneficial than others.
The general rule is brown is better. Brown pasta, bread etc all releases the carbohydrates at a slower rate than white and so help you to feel fuller for longer and avoid sugary highs and pit falls. Personally, I love carbs haha x

The table below lists amount of carbohydrates in vegetables per 100g (3.5 oz). The calorie content of each vegetable is also given as almost all the energy in vegetables come from carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates in vegetables will vary between individual pieces and depending on cooking method. As most vegetables are boiled they absorb more water so the carbohydrate content of each vegetable will lower compared to the same weight when raw. All values are calculated from raw vegetables. Compare Carbohydrates in Vegetables with Carbohydrates in Fruit Vegetable carbohydrates table:

I love carbs too but they don't love me! I just bloat up which is why I'm limiting their intake to come from just fruit and veg ( I do miss the odd packet of crisps though!!)
Thanks for the chart too Josaje - really helpful.
