Christmas

What are everyone's plans eating wise, I'm almost wishing it wasn't happening as I would prefer just to keep going as I'm worried I won't be able to get back on track. Are you planning on just trying to be health, in or out of ketosis? I'm almost sabotaging myself with thoughts such well you might as well give up cos Christmas will ruin it!!

Noooo don't give up! :) Know exactly how you feel though. I personally plan on definitely being out of ketosis on Xmas eve - boxing day, but trying not to go mad and eat everything in sight  If I'm not doing anything specific then I will try to stick to plan but if I'm with fam/friends then I'll let it go a bit. For e.g. Xmas Eve daytime we won't be doing much but in the late pm we'll be going to in-laws and so there'll be lots of goodies, wine etc... and then Xmas day will be the same and then boxing day I'll try and low carb again...

If that makes sense...bit of a ramble though! What are your plans?

I am worried too though about coming off and undoing all that hard work...!

I'm debating starting on the wagon again, despite Christmas being about 3 diet weeks away.

Christmas off, Boxing day off (just eating leftover meats and veg) and then back on the wagon.

It's 3 weeks til the big say - that's 3 weeks of weight loss, or 3 weeks of staying the same/gaining. 3 weeks could be a dress size depending how much you have to lose.

Hang in there.

Well I have a pre arranged Xmas lunch in the 11th and then a night out on the 15th. Then then ill prob be eating from Xmas eve evening until Boxing Day lunch time.
So I think the meal on the 11th will knock me out of ketosis ( I picked my menu before I started the diet) so it maybe best just to eat sensibly until the 16th then back on plan until Xmas eve. Try and be sensible over Xmas till I start again on 27th?
What do you think any other ideas would be appreciated.
Also I weigh in on a Monday so I'm planning on weighing on 10th and then not at all until jan as I know if I see all of the water weight go back on ill prob give up!!

Hey hun! You're gonna have plenty of lovely Christmas's to eat all that lovely junk food we all see on offer!on this diet its gonna be a lot more damaging,if you feel a Christmas enjoying the foods with your family is best for you then sensibly take a few days off,but expect to gain and hopefully if you're prepared for it you can get your mindset back into gear afterwards,I think that's probably the hardest part for everyone.
My plan is to come out of ketosis Christmas eve as I'm going on a night out and will be drinking alcohol, and then Christmas day I will be eating lots of turkey, gammon and veggies, and if I still have room then ill have the naughty stuffing, roasties and Yorkies, but my thinking is to fill myself up so I eat less of the naughty stuff, then ill be back on plan until new years eve (another night out) I'm thinking that week I will do 3 packs a day and and then veg and turkey in the evening so I don't feel too left out, can't wait for Christmas to be over, such a temptation, find a plan hun and stick to it,even if your plan it so have a week off at least you're in control, that's the main thing, hope this helps xx

Thanks for that, do u think if I have one meal off plan it will still take 3 days to get back into ketosis? I've got a meal one day then out drinking 4 days later obv need to be out of ketosis to drink so I'm wondering whether its worth going straight back on plan only to have to come off again to go out drinking???

im only staying half on plan for xmas week. got big things planned on the 18th, 21st, 24th and 25th, so i'll stick to the plan on the other days, and on the off days have my shakes during the day and eat nice stuff in the evening. im mentally prepared for 7lbs gain (because realistically that will come off in the week or two after xmas).

im not tooo worried about coming out of keto simply because i know this diet works, i find it fairly easy to stick to, so 3 days worth of pain getting into keto is a more than reasonable price to pay for a week off.

Maybe you could do more of an Atkins approach? That way you're eating the meats and veggies, but still in ketosis until you need to come out of it? And not sure about how long it taking you to get back in,I'm Pretty sure after some of my slip ups I've been in ketosis the next morning,so guess it depends on the person, some people can stay in ketosis up to 100g of carbs,so instead of going back on the s&s shakes maybe have omlette for breakfast, tuna salad for lunch, and a roast dinner (mostly meats and veggies) for dinner,I bet you could do it under 80g of carbs, that way you should still stay in ketosis, not waste your s&s packs while all the lovely food is around and I think you'd probably enter ketosis easier as its not a huge carb change, I think this is what I would do, id feel like I was doing more damage than good in them few days before you are drinking(losing water, gaining water,500 calls and then 1000cals) all in a few days xx

Hi ebony
I think if its a high-carb meal it definitely could take a few days to get back in, and that's a pain if you know you'll be coming straight out of it again! Maybe making a plan for those days thats reasonably low cal but not low carb could be a good practice for after you've finished slim and save? I find I have to have a plan tho, otherwise I see "off plan" eating as a chance to go crazy and stuff myself!
Have been thinking through my christmas plans, have decided to low carb all the way atkins maintenance style, so less than 60g carbs, but including lots of lovely cheeses and meats, veggies and lovely creamy desserts! Will have dry white wine and try to keep the calories under 2500 (the wine should be fine then as although i'll be in ketosis I won't be drinking on an empty stomach/ vlcd). Am hoping I will STS over christmas which would be fab as normally put on half a stone! Then back on S&S from Jan til goal...

Pretty much same thinking as me! I think the Atkins approach is the best way to do it! All them lovely cheeses yum! Forgot about them! And cream,I miss atkins at times lol xx

Yeah think we cross-posted! Have you done Atkins before Blossom? How did you get on? I did years ago but only ever managed a couple of weeks before feeling deprived - mad considering the diet I'm doing now! The time round Atkins is going to be such a treat! Have a looong list of menu plans already put together on myfitnesspal, just can't wait to start eating them :D Roll on Christmas!!

Right I'm going to spend the next half hour devising a plan and then hopefully I will feel more confident!
The plan will include getting straight back on it on jan 1st I'm sure about that!!!
I've spent the last 2 years being pregnant and having children next summer I'm going to enjoy myself in a body and at a size that I want to be!!

Bananas - maybe if we have the same nights/ days off we can help each other come up with a plan!

Yeah I've done Atkins a few times, but it always makes me ill,id never put the diet down because its so great, but for me I really struggle to eat meat, and after a week or so I just can't eat anything,I think both times I've been way too tight on veg allowance with it,and end up just eating eggs, bacon and chicken, and both times my heart rate has gone up to 180 bpm, with terrible heart palpitations, last time I did Atkins I got put on beta blockers and I'm still on them(I'm only 21),so even though I'm going back to an atkins style approach for my xmas days off I've learnt to love veg.and salad,so I won't be so tight on the carbs,I guess its my own fault because when I've struggled to eat I've just not ate for days on end because I didn't want to fail! Really looking forward to it though, I used to love making boiled chicken, frying mushrooms and onions, mixing it together, adding rogan josh seasoning and then adding some full fat cream, best chicken in sauce ever! Xx

Looks great hun,if ww is what you know and your comfortable with then go for it,atkins.maintenance or slimmingworld red days would probably be a bit better, but if its more stress learning them than doing WW,then WW will benefit you more, you've made me really excited to make my plan now hehe xx

Thanks for reading, I would say ill try and keep my ww days low carb but I know I won't he he. I'm goi g to have to give my scales to someone to keep between dec and jan as I'm terrible for constantly weighing! X

I'm going to keep a little list of things I crave between now and then and incorporate them into my ww days wherever possible so it will feel like a real treat. I'll plan my menus for the ww days nearer the time.
This way should mean that I feel like I'm not dieting and I won't be wasting my s&s products.
I would love to manage a sts over Xmas or even a small gain wouldn't be too terrible.
