Colon Cleanse...

Apparently we have between 5-20lbs of waste gathered on our intestines and a natural remedy aloe colon cleanse can help promote better digestion...

anyone else tried it?
heard much about it?

the good and the bad...

i'm intrigued...

May try it. I really want to go for a colonic irrigation but scared to go on my own - my OH half is not so keen :(

OMG I got some of these and you are supposed to take several tablets every day for about 4 or 5 days - I managed 2 days I was never off the toilet and my insides were just rumbling and gurgling away the whole time - I'm not sure they are really any different from laxatives to be honest......although others may have a different experience.

I am going to a day spa soon and I thought about having the colon massage but am a bit scared of the effects afterwards!!!

I'm intrigued, I've googled it and it says it can help with IBS as well, which I really suffer with. Let us know how you get on. xx

I've done one of these before (not the aloe one) and I ended up having to drink a clay mix instead of eating for 5 days.

It was horrendous - I wouldn't advise it. I only lost 1 lb as well!

I've also been tempted by colonic before, and sometimes try to give myself a colonic massage if I'm feeling bunged up!
However, I do tend to think that the stuff that's in there is there because that's the way our bodies work. It's meant to be there! It all passes through eventually and new stuff fills it again. The gut isn't designed to be empty and as Michelle says, it'll just fill up again.

But, if it makes you feel better and less bloated and whatnot... :)

I have had two colonics, obviously while its being done it's not the best experience in the world, however the lady who was doing it really put me at ease and there is nothing to be shy about as they have seen it all and do it every day.
Afterwards you feel brilliant, flatter tummy and after a few days clearer skin, you may get a headache but just take some painkillers and all is good.
I would have another but I just cant afford it the moment.

"Available scientific evidence does not support the claims on which colon therapy is based. It is known that most digestive processes take place in the small intestine, where nutrients are absorbed into the body. What remains enters the large intestine, where it passes to the rectum for elimination after water and minerals are extracted. Available scientific evidence does not support the premise that toxins accumulate on intestinal walls or that toxicity results from poor elimination of waste from the colon."

Absolutely! These detox things are a load of old rubbish and can be potentially dangerous

Do agree with that and that everything is in there for a reason. However, it is all full of crap (literally :D) from years of eating crap food. Figure giving it a good clean out and starting a fresh would be worth it. Thing I will look for some local colonic places - not sure a tube ride home afterwards would be the best plan!

It doesn't work like though. From inning to outing ;) is about 24 to 48 hours. So, assuming you've been dieting for a couple of days, you'll only be emptying what you've eaten in that time....which you will do anyway in the next few hours.

As for the 'crap' food. Even though that wont be eliminated as it probably has already, remember that crap food often has plenty of vits, minerals etc. It has it's full quota of carbs, protein, fats. Everything will be used and excess stored as fat...which your diet will reduce. The macro/micro nutrients (fat, protein, carbs, vits and minerals) will be taken out and the rest excreted.

It all gets moved along with the next meal. It doesn't hang around for ages.

It's a fantastic system with lots of healthy bacteria doing it's job very adequately regardless of what we push into it. It's going be far more suited to our bodies than shoving a pipe up your posterior and putting 'whatever' up there ;)

Okay...I admit...I'd hate it. I'd be embarrased and concerned about damage unless it was a medical specialist doing the job.

I have been out and bought Aloe Vera Colax Colon Cleanse - and am going to try it - I will let you all know how it goes.

I have read and taken into consideration what everyone has said - I have opted for completely natural tablets from Holland and Barrett - It's worth a try?

Your food has to sit in your intestines for a certain length of time in order for your body to break it down into the nutrients it needs.
If you eat more unrefined foods and fibre the body can process them faster and eliminate them more quickly.
