Just wanted to make a quick post to say Dad came home from the hospice today :D
He's starting a 5 day course of rt tomorrow to help with the pain. We know he can't be cured, and he's very thin and weak, but he's holding his own and we are just so happy to have him back with us.
Thank you so much for all your lovely words of support over the last week...what a great bunch of friends you are xx :sign0168:

Thank you all, lovely, lovely people xx
Rt went well today, 4 more to go. Dads suffering with bad leg pain but the docs said it wud prob get worse before it improves. Made me laugh tonite...apparently they advised him to 'dress to the right' during treatment in order to prevent burns to any delicate parts lol!
Fillymum, I especially appreciate u taking the time to post, considering how much u have on your mind xx. Try to soak up all the love prayers, and positive thoughts that are zooming to u from all your friends on minimins xx. Lots of luv and hugs xx

The beauty of RT is that is non invasive. It is a break from needles and knives.

Tell your lovely dad to be careful what shower and bath products he uses and to treat the area with cream each day. The nurses in the RT department will recommend which ones that are best for him. I used aqueous cream or E45 cream and if he uses talc to only use a good baby talc.

Give him a hug from me.

I will pass all of that on to dad hunni thank you, especially the hug ;) xx. Did you have any sickness with your treatment? Dad was v sick in the ambulance this morning, and couldn't keep his lunch down either. Not sure if it's the travelling or the treatment. He's on anti sickness meds but keeps bringing em up! Might have to go back to the daily injections if it doesn't settle down :sigh:
How are you doing? I saw the sad news about ColJacks mum :( I hope ColJack feels as much support from the guys on here as I have. How lucky we are to have such caring people on here ... strangers but friends :grouphugg:
Take care and lots of love :flowers:

The RT did not make me sick at all just tired. The chemo made me sick for a short time after each session. If he is bringing up his meds. I would say definitely ask for the injections again.

I am fine thanks and staying cheerful.

Oh hi Sue, that was nice of you to think of Dad, thank you xx
Well he still hasn't really recovered from the rt yet. The pain in his thigh and pelvis is very bad, and so he's taking loads of oxynorm (or oxyMORON as he calls it lol!). The hospital bed is in situ plus ripple mattress, but he doesn't like it! And now he has stopped walking (well shuffling on his zimmer) to the loo preferring to use the commode or a bottle. He has thrush in his mouth, and the district nurse in concerned that he may develop bed sores as he's just skin and bone cos he won't eat much as he hasn't got an appetite. On top of all this he is struggling to sleep with the pain and has my step mum Shirley up all through the night to give him pain relief etc. The district nurse is making arrangements for carers to come in the mornings to wash Dad and get him dressed as Shirley is finding it very difficult.
So all in all it's not brilliant, but we never, ever give up hope that Dad may start to improve a little. We're not asking for a miracle...we already had one of those when the oncologist prescribed Tarceva after saying Dad had 3 months to live and that was 3 years ago...but it would be lovely to see him pain free and enjoying his food :( Thank you so much for asking after him hunni xx
So how are you doing? I don't suppose you have had any news yet? It's funny as I was only thinking of you earlier today and wondering whether to contact you and then I decided against it...I was worried you might not want reminding of things and I wouldn't wanna upset you xx
I had a scan yesterday..been suffering from abdo pains for about a year but can't seem to find out where they're coming from. The scan showed something on my kidney but not sure if it's related to the pain or not so gotta wait until I've been back to my GP to see what she says.
I hope you have some good news soon sweetie...lots of love and best wishes xx

What have the docs. prescribed for the oral thrush. I found Nystatin drops helped during my chemo.

The pain thing is dreadful it is so hard to control. I am sure everything that can be done is being done. Can the dose be increased. Problem here is that the Oxynorm could be the cause of the lack of appetite.

Is there anything at all that he fancies to eat, any little delicacy that might tempt him.

It is such a worrying time for you all.

I am fine. Still waiting and will ring again tomorrow just to remind them that I am still here. I think I am past worrying now and have adopted a very ostrich like attitude by blocking it altogether, well most of the time. I keep very, very busy and just try not to think of it at all.

    Thanks for asking.

Tell your dad I send him a huge hug and am willing better days for him.

I'm sure it was Nystatin he had last time, Shirley is going to get the prescription tomorrow as Dad didn't say anything about being sore until tonight :sigh:

The oxynorm dose has been increased as from yesterday, and Dad can basically have as many doses as he wants. You could well be right you know, I hadn't thought there may be a connection between the dosage and his appetite. He's also on morphine patches too. Maybe we should get him on some of your orange vodka next ;)

As for Dads eating, Shirley tries hard to give him whatever he wants at the time, be it cereal, rice pudding, stew etc but he just doesn't really want it, always says he's not hungry.

I have read a lot of your posts on here and you are always the first person to offer really good, useful advice where ever it is needed. I can see that you are a strong, positive, caring woman... this comes across in abundance in your writings. If anyone deserves a positive outcome it is you Sue.

Well I better not hold you up! I'm sure you ARE very busy what with spearing millions of oranges, slurping the vodka, filling wheelie bins with manure.... :giggle:

Take care hun, big hugs coming your way xx

This really made me chuckle.....thanks for that, I love laughter.

I have put the oranges on hold until my friend Ingrid gets here tomorrow, she is coming for the day. We will buy the vodka, after visiting the charity shops of course, and then come home and do battle with a couple of skewers.

I am lining up the wheelie bins as we speak ( I wish ).

Just a thought. When my closest friend was in the same stage as your dad, on morphine based drugs, not eating etc. I arranged a little bedside party for her. We put up balloons etc in her room and invited her closest and dearest friends in the hope that it would stimulate her appetite a little and encourage her to eat something.

I prepared lots of tasty little, bite sized canapes of things I knew she loved and a nice gooey cake. She didn't eat mountains of food but she did eat and she thoroughly enjoyed her special day.

Aww...that was a lovely thing u did for yr friend. It's so hard to know how to help dad, Macmillan nurse has upped his morphine and starting him back on steroids. She wanted him to go back into the hospice but he refused, so they r keeping a bed open for him which is very good.
Caters start on Monday, to get him washed and dressed which should make life a little easier for Shirley too.
I saw u haven't been so good today (headaches) and I am sorry ... sometimes u think u r managing well but yr brain is still working overtime and causes tension despite u trying to control it. Really hope u have a better day tomorrow, and that u get some news from the hospital.
Take care hunni, always here for u any time u wana chat xx

I think if your dad feels happier at home then that is where he should be especially as you now have carers in to help out.

If you speak to his Mc nurse ( what amazingly fantastic people they are) there is so much that can be done for him at home. I am sure it is already being done but it never hurts to ask if anything more can be done for him.

When my dad was in a hospice they allowed him to have a tot of whisky every night. He loved that and really looked forward to it. Is there anything at all that he would like to have.

My love is with you all. This is such a hard time for all of you, especially him.

Thanks for your good wishes. I feel fine today, a bit sore in my throat but no headache. My girlfriend chatters non stop, do not get me wrong , I love her dearly and am always glad to listen to her, but I think that that could have been a contributory factor.
