Dukan, Diabetes and Dinner Suits

Re scales - I was quite shocked to see their price (even with the reduction you mentioned which, as I'm in France, would be countered by the postage no doubt) so will wait for one of my two pairs to break down! Probably in unison as these things tend to happen. Also I'm currently aiming to weigh no more than twice a week (it's tough!) so they'd not be fully appreciated! I used to have some body fat measuring scales but those sort of scales were slated at the time as being totally inaccurate depending on one's body shape.

yes - they are spendy - but previous scales at home where archaic... and honestly, didn't go past 20st - so clearly had not been used for some time.... I just jumped on the luggage scales at the airport when I was checking in!

So, I treated myself - I find I react better to things being closely and accurately measured in a way that doesn't allow me to 'forget' - so I just jump on these, first thing in the morning - sort of look at the number through a waking up haze... and then check the real number later on when I have woken up and opened my ipad/PC.

Final day of the attack phase for me then.... this is Day 10, and and the scales moved just a little bit more this morning.

Day 9 weigh in - 20st 9lbs / 27.9% Fat

Missed my 20 mins walking yesterday - got distracted with some work things, and then some jobs when I got home (desk based) which annoyed me. Need to block the time and make it a habit.

Meals yesterday : B - Oatbran as a porridge with skimmed milk and a tsp of Truvia / L - Chicken / D - Cola Chicken (recipe from this forum). 3 litres of water, couple of diet cokes.

Thanks to who ever posted the Cola Chicken recipe... I was sceptical, but gave it a go - added paprika and chill flakes to mine, aiming for a sort of goulash taste - and whilst it wasn't the best chicken dish I have ever eaten, it was good to get a different taste/texture thing going on...

Final weigh in of the cruise phase tomorrow - then I'll leave the scales alone, and only weigh in on Mondays and Thursdays from now on...

Thanks for all the positive comments as I've gone through this first phase of Dukan... now into the Cruise phase!

Wow...10 days of attack...that's hardcore..congratulations...you're losses are fantastic!!

it is really annoying when I miss my walk, but life gets in the way...or I should say work, it's always work that prevents me, but when I'm out I really enjoy it, headphones on....its a great stress reliever :)

When I've been reading your posts and diary I just know you're going to do it. You sound sooooo focused, you will be at your true weight in no time at all.

now just go crazy with veg tomorrow!!

And so - into the cruise phase - I have GREEEN things in my lunchbox for work!

Day 10 was very odd... I didn't have much appetite at all... was worried about something at work, which turned out to be OK, but definitely impacted my appetite:

B - B - Oatbran as a porridge with skimmed milk and a tsp of Truvia + Sliced Ham / L - Some Roast Beef and Chicken / D - Two Cod Loins cooked in a parcel with a tiny bit of lemon. 3 litres of water, couple of diet cokes.

Much much less eaten yesterday, I just wasn't into it... which I kind of hope continues - maybe my appetite is adjusting to the new regime,.

So my first weigh in of the cruise phase was this morning - 20st 9.1lbs - which means I lost a total of 10 lbs in the ten days of attack... a pound a day feels like good progress.

I bought myself the Dukan Recipe Book last night as a reward for getting through 10 days, made a simple dressing for a lunch of rocket salad with some grilled chicken. Really looking forward to grilled steak with salad tonight - will be great to have some different textures and tastes in my meals. I also bought some veggie treats in preparation for making some soups/broths - which I think I'll really enjoy.

Minor update - just ate my first green, crunchy leaves since the start of this journey - Some grilled chicken, with rocket and and some homemade dressing (from the book)

Awesome to taste veggie things again!

Hey Matt what a brilliant start well done!

i fined week ends can be my danger time too so I tend to make both days PV and have a Mon & Fri PP and try if I can to have at least one meal each of the week end days as PP if not 2.

I remember my first PV day never thought I would be so excited about salad!

First PV day completed - nice to have some green things in my diet again...

B - Oatbran Porridge with half tsp of Truvia / L - Grilled Chicken and Salad Leaves + dressing from the book / D - Grilled Steak + Rocket + dressing from the book / 3 ltrs of water + diet cokes + sliced ham as a mid morning snack

Weighed in this morning at 20st 8.4lbs - still moving in the right direction - but I feel like I definitely need to stop weighing in every day... difficult now that I get into the habit of jumping on the scales before I get in the shower!

PP day today, and then the weekend - when I have the dual challenges:

1. Two days of clay shooting competitions - so I'll need fuel!
2. Dinner with friends on Saturday night - who are bound to have cooked something yummy. Aiming to try to stay PV tomorrow so I can probably pull that off!

Going to try and stay off the scales until Monday morning!

Enjoy the weekend my Dukan diamonds!

Awesome results Matt!

Some people gain on their first PV day, so I'm really happy for you that you continued to shed :)

Good luck at the shooting on Saturday. So that you don't feel as hungry/lack-lustre as you did last week, you might want to consider having a bigger breakfast and shifting your day up a bit - Although we're not supposed to be counting cals, a couple of tablespoons of oatbran, sweetner and some skimmed milk is less than 200, and would never last me to lunch if I had an active morning! I know you are restricted on breakfast options due to allergies to eggs, but you could get some fat reduced bacon (or turkey bacon), fried tomatoes, Mushrooms, smoked salmon etc... just to give you a bit more fuel - and don't forget to take some snacks!

Have a good weekend!

Hi Matt, I came from Taplow , so not a million miles away from you. Moved away when I got married. I lost 5lbs on Dukan attack in either 2010 or 2011. Amazing the weight never came back straight away as I thought it might!
Anyway, having put too much weight on again I am starting attack today so have been looking around Dukan for inspiration. I am planning 5 days attack. I nearly went insane for lack of fruit and veg last time and 5 days can seem a very long time!
So well done on your loss so far, its always good to see success. :)

Small World!

Morning all - hope you had a good weekend!

I find the weekends the hardest - so many opportunities to snack being missed! I managed to hold it together this weekend - with my first lapse of the whole Dukan diet, but in control otherwise.

Saturday - had a busy day, was clay shooting for Breast Cancer Charity - had a lot of fun, and managed to stay well fuelled with some grilled chicken I prepped for the day. In the evening I went to dinner at some friends, who had a barbecue to celebrate being in their new house, I made no fuss about the diet and promised myself it would be a good test to see how I cope 'in the wild' - I managed to stay PP for the evening, until someone spooned some rice on my plate... so the first starchy carb to pass my lips in two weeks was some fairly plain rice...

Sunday - shooting again, but in the afternoon (County Championship) - fuelled again by Ham and Turkey during the morning and plenty of water over the day - I got through pretty well, much better than the previous week. Roast Chicken in the evening, no skin of course and a massive pile of salad leaves with balsamic. Must have polished off half a chicken!

So - Monday Weigh in : 20st 7.7lbs - not far from losing my first stone.

All in all - a good weekend, despite a falling off the wagon moment, I'm firmly back on and ready for week 3. This time next week I will be getting a flight for a business trip to America, lets see how that goes.

Great news Matt, it's coming off so fast! Hope you are careful in America. I hear they dish out lots of food!! I have managed to lose 2lbs so far on attack. Quite good. :)

Hi there Matt and well done on your first weekend! It's true that we've all felt that way about weekends, which is when I tended to turn my oatbran into something more "cakey" to feel I had had a treat. Chocolate mug cake baked in the microwave is one favourite, as is making a cake with four day's oat and wheatbran (once attack is over), adding goji berries and cinammon and, hey presto, fruit cake! :D

America will be EASY EASY... think ATKINS! They understand that and, if ever you have a lapse, go more for fatty things rather than rice/carbs and you'll stay in [ketosis/whatever state we're in on Dukan].

x

Thanks guys - I think I am getting more confident about america... jet lag makes me do funny food things, but very low carbs must be easy to achieve there, especially as their customer service ethic will enable me to order EXACTLY what I want.

One thing I know - I can get lots of my beloved steaks very easily there.

Well done Matt!!!

Yes that's what I couldn't get over in the states....the customer service is AMAZING eating out...such a change from Britain!!! They say 'no problem' or 'perfect choice' to literally any request, I should know cos I'm such a fussy eater!!

Well done on your weekend too. Well meaning people who spoon rice on people's plates!! The perils of socialising.

:)

Wow fabulous losses well done! You just be feeling great x

Yesterday was a PP day - so followed my routine pretty well:

B - Oatbran Porridge with Skimmed Milk / L - Grilled Chicken / D - Grilled Steak with some prawns on the side (marinaded them in Cumin and Cayenne) / Snack - some Roast Turkey / 2l of water / Few diet cokes

Had a chocolate craving - and found something called a Cadbury Highlight in the cupboard... not sure if it is strictly allowed, but it did the trick last night in front of the tellybox.

Found it impossible not to jump on the scales this morning, but am holding off thinking about weight too much until next week.

PV today - salad in the lunchbox, as well as some chicken.... not sure about dinner tonight!

Am missing the gym, I think I will go back this evening instead of the 30 minute walk... not a massive session, just gentle and see how it affects my appetite.

Hey Matt,

Nice one! You are completely in the rhythm.

Cadburys highlight is not allowed as is has dried glucose syrup in it (basically sugar). But just the once won't hurt.

The Best solution I have found is Chocolate Tea. I have the Choc and Chilli one by Yogi at the moment (from Holland and Barratt), but I also love the Chocolate Spiced tea from Kusmi (you have to go to France for that one). When you go to the US, check out David's Teas. I recently had the "Read my Lips" one, but they have loads of varieties which include chocolate.

Otherwise, mix a teaspoon of low fat cocoa powder with sweetener and top up with hot skimmed milk (creamier if you add a tablespoon of skimmer milk powder)

I suppose I should read the ingredients more!

Thanks for those tips - might see what I can pick up in the US to stock up - it used to be extra strength Zantac and extra strength Tums - but I haven't needed those since starting Dukan!

Yes, I admit to sneaking in the 'options' chocolate drinks, but plain cocoa (preferably fat reduced) is better, of course.

The Choco tea IS delicious but I don't drink it with milk (do you, Shelly?) so it doesn't have quite the same comfort factor as a mug of cocoa!

I wouldn't worry about the trip to America - you can find pretty much anything there (except decent cheese: just what is 'American cheese' supposed to be?!!). It's always the flight that worries me, though. Are you taking your own food? I've never seen a low carb airline meal in my life!
