First week menus - please comment!

    Hi everyone

    Because I am still waiting for my Atkins books (think I have bought one of everything there is!) to arrive - I have been cobbling together my information from various websites and my dim distant memory from when I did atkins 6 years ago. Before I go much further I wondered if some kind creature would have a look at what I have been eating and just make sure it all looks about right?

    nb: I got a bit busy/lazy at the weekend so sat and sun are more nibble/grazing days and therefore my veg intake was a bit pants - will try harder next weekend not to let things slip.

    Anyway here we go:

    Tues 17th June
    Breakfast
    50g Brazil nuts=2.8
    Lunch
    Mini baby bel=0
    Pepperami=0.4
    Snack
    1/2 large pack prawns=0
    Pepperami=0.4
    Dinner
    Pork spare ribs/spice rub=0
    Asparagus 3 spears=1.2
    Pepper green fried 0.25 cup=1.7
    0.5 courgette=1.7
    Pesto=0.6
    mushroom portobello 100g=2
    Bacon Lardons=0
    Philly 60g=1
    Snack
    Coffee with cream x 2=1.6
    Total Carbs for day = 13.4


    Wed 18th June

    Olive oil 2 tbsp=0
    Balsamic vinegar 1tbsp=2.3
    Dinner
    Garlic Prawns x 500g=4
    Salad with mayo=5.5

    Chicken, pesto, mozz and bacon=1.1
    bread free french toast with cream=4.4
    snack

    Indulge bar x 2=2
    Glass wine=1.4
    Total carbs for day=20.5

    If anyone can be bothered to comment or pass on any suggestions I would be really grateful. I am aware I have been a little adaptive with the induction rules (i.e. wine and nuts) but I have also been working a crazy amount of hours this week and a few blips felt almost "necessary" to get me through....

    hi there. hope you are doing well.

    the things that stand out to me is there seems to be an over reliance on the convenience of Atkins bars as part of your meals. I guess you feel you need to have a change from eggs and are avoiding bacon/sausages. The bars aren't really meant to be used as a meal replacement. But each to their own.

    The other thing I notice is that on your "off days" where you had wine etc. you also didn't have salad/veg - really important for the fibre and to keep your bowel healthy and active :))) so try to keep an eye on that.

    Instead of the Atkins bars for breakfast, perhaps you could boil a few eggs up and have them in the fridge ready to grab if you are in a hurry. You could also cook a few sausages up and eat them cold (if you like that sort of thing). This would give you a quick grab snack without relying on the bars.

    Anyway, that's my 2p worth.

    i can second the bar thing, i was losing great until i introduced these into my diet & this week only lost 1lb.
    I`m no giving up the bars, although the convience of them was great.
    Before i was eating sero bars without them affecting weight loss.
    Might be something to consider, i too don`t fancy egg or meat in the morn.

    Hi and thanks to Buffydog and Dancing for your help with this.

    I wouldn't usually use the bars as much as I have done this past week but working two jobs they have been convenient as I don't have access to cooking facilities as often as I would like ... having said that - your suggestions for having things cold is a good one and I will certainly try to be more organised in future to have things like this to hand for breakfasts.

    I didn't realise that the bars have stalled people's weightloss either - rather naively I thought that if Atkins endorsed them for induction then they would be a "safe" option... thanks for the heads up on this. I will get some sero bars instead for days when my hair being reasonable and getting out of the house on time, has taken precedence to preparing my breakfast/lunch!!!

    Thanks again for your input oh wise ones! where would this section of the forum be without you?

    apparently Dr Atkins never liked the bars being used and it is only once he died that the company started strongly promoting them.
