Gerry's Diary - 60lbs off, 20% achieved!

Hi Stephen
I'm not saying anything bad about Lily, in fact I think she's great. I was just letting you all know how wide my taste spreads, basically from one of the spectrum to the other. Oh yeah I forgot to add Alanis Morrisette in there too. She is brilliant as is Catatonia. :)

it must be amazing knowing you are benefitting yourself and that you're going to be around for a long time to watch your grandson grow up :) x

Here here Gerry!!! Onwards & downwards!!

You really are doing so so well and i'm 100% sure if you stay focused you will reach your goal!

x

Oh god, that is awful about your friend's uncle. Hopefully it turns out to be nothing as sinister as that.. like he ran off and took the money? Still bad but not as bad!

Well done on the 3lbs :)

Hi folks

Sorry I haven't been around much but it just seems that everything is going against me since the start of the year!

As you know I had some family problems with my daughter which thankfully I have now sorted out. Then my mates uncle went missing with the police thinking he had been abducted. I have just heard this morning that they have found him in Wexford, slightly confused, but the garda picked him up at 3am this morning, wandering the streets. I'm just delighted that he is still alive to be honest.

So... just when all that sorts itself out, it looks like my wife may have swine flu ffs! She has been bad for almost a week now and she's the worst I have ever seen her. I have her booked in for an emergency appointment this morning.

Despite all that I am keeping to my points as best as I can although when work puts me up in a 4 star hotel over the weekend in Dublin and then goes to TGI Friday's on Friday night for a staff get together, it's hard to point days like that. Weighed myself this morning and have sts, which considering the week I have had, I'm happy enough with.

I am working away trying to sort out my old office (in the house) into a kind of mini gym. I already have my treadmill in there and am just about to put in a skiing machine. Have been looking for a multigym too but cant decide which one. The idea is that I can do my workouts at home, at my own pace, with no embarrassment felt with other "6 packs" around. ;)

On a better note. Whilst away at the weekend, several people noticed my weight loss and were complimenting me all weekend which gave me a real boost. One woman in particular asked me to send her an email detailing why I started to lose weight and how I managed to turn my lifestyle around. Apparently her son, who is only 28, is about 4 times the size of me and she has tried everything to help him lose weight with no luck. I sent her the email yesterday and got a lovely email back last night saying that I had inspired her (this was even before she had showed it to her son) and that she was going to keep a copy of my email in her bag for times when she felt weak and needed inspiring! I was delighted that she could get so much out of my story to help her, and hopefully her son. I also sent her the link to my pictures from before and then now (almost 3 stone down) which up until now I have only let my family see!! She has also insisted that I add her to my little update list that I have. I told her that I text and email my family and close friends at least once a week with details of how I am doing on my journey and she now wants to be in the "inner cirscle" so to speak. :)

So kind of mixed emotions this week. A bit dissappointed at the sts but totally understand. Delighted that Kev's uncle is safe and well but worried about her indoors and this flu type thing. Over the moon that someone can be inspired by little old me :)

Will try and post a little bit more this week.... I promise!

That is all - Gerry

Hi Gerry, i'm proud of you still staying on track even with all that's going on (and tgi's on Fri...yum). It's a lot for anyone to deal with, never mind when you have a goal you want to get to yourself.

Hope your wife's ok and that it is nothing serious.
Glad to here your mates dad has been found safe and well too, specially with the cold weather recently!!

I bet your on cloud 9 with the great comments and reactions you've had! Especially the woman who's now in the "circle" lol. I can understand why she had such a reaction as you are always so positive and you really do spur me on and inspire me with each and every post you make on here!!! You do seem to be one in a million Gerry!!!

Keep up the great work Gerry and welcome back!!!.x

Thanks Linz for your kind words, they really do make me smile. I don't feel that I'm anything special at all, just a fat bloke losing some weight who tells his friends how he does it, that's all :) And for the record, just because I don't post as much at the minute, doesnt mean I don't read your posts.

If the wife gets sorted out before the end of the week, I promise I'll be going swimming, no really, I will! ;)

Well done on your magnificient journey so far Linz, you have really taken to your new lifestyle very well and I am proud of you. Keep up the good work missus!

Thanks Gerry, i'm just trying to keep up with you!!! lol

You've got 84lbs to go i've got 91lbs to go!!! I like a challenge!!

You'll know when the time is right to start swimming! But good luck with the home gym, it all helps towards reaching your goal..x

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I am considering going for colonic irrigation!! It's a thing that I never really fancied before tbh but I heard a talk on Saturday about detoxing your body and your colon can have all types of crap (pardon the pun) stored in it from years and years ago. Now I know how I have abused my body for years with all sorts of junk food so I'm considering having this treatment.

Although I am emailing our nutrition specialist to see if any of our products would do the same job as the thought of the procedure gives me the willies :D

I know the time is right now Linz to start swimming, it's just getting the time and getting the first dip over me lol

It does sound like it would do us all good but the thought of it terrifies me too!!! I was watchin some celebrity thing a couple of weeks ago and they had a colonic thing every day!!! gadz!!!!

But they all felt the benefit of it. Let us know how u get on if you go for it!

A little awkward to begin with, but you quickly get used to it. Therapists generally exceptionally professional....(nothing to them, consider how many times they've done it and to how many people!) - and the benefits are amazing! Would highly recommend!

Hello Gerry , glad to hear that mates uncle was found ok-hope its good news for the mrs !!

well done for sts after such a difficult week.

blimey you've had a lot on you plate, well done on keeping up with the weight watching which is not the most easy thing to do in times of stress, I hope your wife has a speedy recovery and that it is just a bad case of flu and not in fact swine flu, there are a lot of virus's going around at the moment and the swine flu seems to get mentioned for a lot of them

Ok, another update.

The missus doesn't have swine flu, but she is still no better. Doctor said she has a virus and blocked sinus and she has to stay in bed. It's now Wednesday and she still isn't back at work! Hopefully by the weekend she will be better.

Weighed myself this morning and was delighted to see 4lbs off! That puts me just 1lb off my next short term goal of 3 stone off. I have promised the office girls here a fresh cream bun each as a celebration when I hit 3 stone off. Of course I won't be having one.

Was talking to my boss at the weekend and asked him if he was getting nervous yet (regarding his incentive for the grand prix) as I was sticking to the new lifestyle and the lbs were coming off. In typical fashion he simply said "I never had any doubt that you would stick to it and everything is in place for your trip for when, not if, you reach your goal!" It was nice to see that he has faith in me even though his incentive could well cost £1,000+

Since New Year that is now 7lbs I have off and I am well pleased as in the January Challenge I had originally set my January goal for 5lbs, and I still have over a week to go until the end of the month.

Regarding exercise I am ashamed to say that I have done no exercise this year and I am still losing but I have definitely been more active around the house. All those little jobs that have been needing done for ages are starting to get done. I used to love a bit of DIY but then got too big to enjoy it and could never do anything physical without sweating profusely which was a complete embarrassment. Now I feel the need to get on and get the little jobs done. Still nothing too strenuous but every little helps!

Oh yeah when I got into the car this morning I noticed another massive change! I was convinced that the missus had been out last night and moved the drivers seat back a bit because I noticed that my belly was quite a distance away from it's normal position of almost touching the steering wheel. I checked with her and she assured me she hadn't touched it! I drove the whole way to work smiling and occasionally glancing down at this space between the steering wheel and me! :) It's a change I never thought of looking for before.

I've been thinking of starting to write my daily meals and snacks in here. Tbh, it would probably surprise a lot of people because on paper my days can look terrible sometimes but are usually all within my points allowance. What I mean is some days I have a zinger burger meal for lunch, some days I have a chicken legend meal from McD's but always point them in. Some days I have to sit down in the evening and use up my points with a cup of tea and some weight watchers carrot cake and wafer biscuits. This is something I'm not a massive fan of, but I do try to use up my points on a daily basis as I don't really drink so don't need to save them for anything at the weekend. Occasionally, like last weekend in Dublin, when I am eating in a fancy hotel or TGI Fridays I find it impossible to count my points and so literally write that day off as a disaster and start again the next day. Normally I would be embarrassed to confess my eating habits right now but the fact is I want to show others, especially new people, that it isn't all doom and gloom when you change your lifestyle around. That you can still enjoy the foods you love but have them in moderation, and most importantly if you have a weak day and over indulge, it isn't the end of the world. You simply get back on your new regime the next day. I feel confident in sharing my meals now because simply put, I am losing weight at a good rate, and most importantly I am enjoying my food and my new lifestyle.

I have an appointment at the well man's clinic this morning and boy are they in for a shock :D Last time they seen me I was 20stone 9lbs and this morning the new lighter me will make an appearance at 17 stone 10lbs! I can't wait to see their faces, in a good way of course! They aren't even aware that I have lost any weight! I then have a checkup with the doctor next Monday to make sure I am now able to undertake more exercise, as previously I have been told to take things very easy because of my blood pressure. I am hoping he will tell me things are now looking better and my body is getting back to some kind of healthy state.

Am still pondering over the Colonic Irrigation. Have found somewhere locally that does it for £50 but am going to discuss it with the doctor to see what he thinks first.

Also, for those of you who read my other posts, I decided to drop myself down another point a day when I was sitting on 18 stone exactly. And with 4lbs off since then I think it has worked wonders. I would recommend it to anyone!

I have been asked by the company I work for to do an article for our monthly magazine about how I use our products to help me with my new lifestyle. I am not sure if I want to go down that route because that just brings a lot of focus on me and I'm not that type of guy, believe it or not. I have never hidden the fact that I am following the WW programme but equally so I have always told everyone about the supplementary products that I also take which, I have no doubt, aid me in my losses. The jury is still out on this one and maybe when I lose some more I will consider it but have told them that when I reach goal I will definitely do the article.

So all in all, I am in great form today after a few bad weeks. I feel on top of the world again and ready to face any challenge! I am absolutely loving the new me and actually yesterday whilst talking to someone on the phone, who I haven't spoken to since September, they actually asked me what I had done to myself because they could here in my voice that I was so happy!! She's also in for a shock when we meet up in May! :D
