Get to slinky again and staying there ......

Is this a Cayenne pepper as in the same as the spice or something different?. I add Cayenne pepper to most of my meals & would love to try to grow some fresh if it's not too hard.
yes it's a pepper plant, I find them fairly easy to grow! If you search on amazon for a 'grow your own chilli' kit, and choose one that appeals to you. Everything you need comes in the kits and all you need is a sunny area to sit it in, and water. Now is a good time of year to plant and grow seeds (in UK) and you'd probably have fruit by late summer!

I've overwintered 2 chillies that didn't fruit so well last year. I need to decide whether to repot them. I'll get that specialist feed you suggested and put them outside earlier this year - late May.

I have now ordered grafted tomatoes, aubergine, a cucumber and more chillies plus a surprise pack - guess that will be whatever they haven't sold. Some will be delivered this month, some in the first half of May. wasn't sure about the tomatoes - but I simply love homegrown tomatoes and my OH does too. I'll also be growing some artichokes. They are low in calories - but higher in carbs. However they have lots of fibre so low "net carbs", have pretty leaves and I love them!

I felt a bit achey today. I was moving pots that have been on the patio so Mr AG can do an algae treatment. I've also had lots of laundry to do. One benefit I am looking forward to is feeling more at ease and not aching as I walk downstairs. I may live into my 90s - my mum is 94 this month. Being thinner will reduce my cancer risk and I hope a physical ease that will give me a more enjoyable life. My older sister all have arthritis - and am getting it too. So I am hoping low carb will also reduce my inflammation response. I have puffy legs - so that lymph needs to go too.

I'm listening to Amanda from Eat Like a Bear on youtube - ask me anything. She's great. She just sad stop thinking abt food! She's just so no nonsense. ELAB is eating Ridiculously Big Salads (or hot equivalents) eating once or twice a day. She says figure it out for yourself - and psychology s the key. More at you tube, in the ELAB facebook group and at https://eatlikeabear.com/. She's lost 140lbs - and is an engaging woman in her 50s. I like her FB group - it's mainly women 30-70 years old. Some great results.

I have tomatoes growing too. And while they are a fruit and not strictly keto I feel I can fit them into my carb allowance ok. I grew 24 plants last year, 4 different varieties and am trying a different 4 varities again this year, a beef, a plum, a salad and a cherry. Fingers crossed they do well. Growing tomatoes is very rewarding but they do take a lot of time.

I've just thought of an idea for a new thread "Grow your meal" but don't know where it should go, any ideas?

There are several things I want to do when I get my home sorted - painting stones and dressmaking again. I lost my sewing machine in the flood - so will need to buy one. I have a strong image of how lovely and peaceful it will look.
I've just noticed your 5lbs chunk! I have 25 of those chunks to go!!

I like hearing about you organising your life. Thoughtful living.

I am living in a mess, My study is full of boxes, my wardrobe untidy (and bags of clothes I'll be wearing as the weight drops off) and my side of the garage not organised. I also have lots of paperwork that stacked up. I am back listening to videos by Flylady followers, and have started flylady.net routines again. So I hope this will be the year to transform how I live too!

I don't put my chilli's outside I just keep them on my windowsill, but I'm in Scotland so our temp isn't always great perhaps it's better where you are. The chillifocus plant food certainly seems to work. I grew a bunch of plants from seed a few years ago and had so many I gave some away to friends. A friend who never used the plant food never got any fruit on her plant, I don't know where she kept it either though, but the plants I kept at home from the same beginnings thrived on my windowsill with the plant food.

I love sewing, I like to use the website patterns for pirates for patterns among others but have done a lot from their range. So much helpful info about how to adjust for different body shapes, heights etc and very wearable designs from everyday comfortable stuff to dresses fit for fancy events. They have a great FB page with a large, friendly, inclusive following. People of ALL shapes and sizes posting their lovely clothes with absolutely zero tolerance on body shaming.

I also like just making stuff up tho haha.

I get annoyed at my disarray at times, for all my talk - as I fix one area another falls into crazy, but what I see is a general trend to overall improvement and I'm happy with that. Every time I go through another room (again) more and more stuff gets cleared out. ALthough it falls back into crazy, each time it's a little less (sometimes a lot less) than the last crazy, if that makes sense.

Keep an eye out on facebay marketplace and local groups you can often pick up a sewing machine on there. I'd love a fancy embroidery machine. Maybe one day!

You were talking abt being near a train station @MrsTeacup. I'm 20 miles from a station.

There's (occasionally in the time of Covid) a bus a mile and a bit up a very narrow busy lane (dog walkers and walkers this time of year, beach goers in the summer) which goes to the town 3 miles away, which has buses to the bus station 17 miles away, which no longer stop at the train station (so there's a 10-15min walk from the bus station) and a train every hour. So connections are time consuming!

Google tells me it would be quicker to get a speedboat to Skegness!! A taxi is £35 each way to my station- and essential to book in advance.

My car died just b4 Xmas and the timings & cost meant couldn't get to see my mum (1.40hr into London, tube (20 mins) and 2 hours train plus 20 minute walk..... so I haven't seen her since 10 March 2020. Her home remained locked down all last year - except over Xmas when they had meetings behind a screen in December.

I've got a car again - and my mum has moved in with my sister last week - so I'm hoping to see her in the garden next week. can't wat - but am also desperate for a hug. She lives with my doctor sister and unvaccinated shop worker nephew - so won't have a hug.

Oh how awful not to see your mum all that time, but yaye to seeing her and the family next week, that will be so fabulous!

I loved my mum loads and miss her so much, even though it's been years since she passed away - but I chat to her photo some days (hope that doesn't make me sound too bonkers lol) and treasure the memories we made xx

Ah it will be SO lovely for you finally seeing your Mum! Both my parents passed away years ago, I’m incredibly happy for people who still have theirs. My husband has lost his only parent, his father, too so we are a very little family unit. Please tell us all about the visit afterwards, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for good weather for you!

Hi there, have you been or have plan to visit your Mum yet? it will be so lovely for you both. I work in a care home and it's been so sad seeing the separations and distances having to be kept :(

So we had the second jab so called to sort out a date to see my mum - and then my medic sister told me to wait for 3 weeks ..... so that's frustrating.

So it's been a month tomorrow. Not sure what the scale will say tomorrow am. I will have shed a nearly a stone. Big initial loss then slower.

I haven't measured - but know my waistband is much looser, and maybe some face gains. Nothing noticeable on the thighs. I'm breathing easier - so think the fat lost was visceral.

I am still awkward and slow up & down stairs and one very sore hip and the other is just sore, sore knees and a stiff back after doing the cleaning/washing up/laundry. Too much tummy in the way when bend over.

So a good month towards health. To get to shed a stone next month, I'll need to reduce the fat, watch the protein portions and shorten my eating window too. I feel optimistic that I can do this.

I'd say it's more important that your Mum has had her 2 doses personally, but it's true the science says it takes a few weeks to build the maximum protection possible.

The thing is, these vaccines don't stop us getting it, only makes it much milder if/when we do. Having said that if symptoms are demonstrably less then we are less likely to pass it on as well so there is an argument that the safest thing for your Mum is for both her and visitors to have had both doses. HOWEVER - working in a care home I can say that there is no requirement for visitors to our care home to have been vaccinated. They are required to do one of the rapid 30 minute tests though which I'm sure you guys could purchase if needed. They're not 100% but every little helps as they say. Given how long it's been since you were able to see your Mother, it feels like your sister is being a little harsh. I hope she is practicing what she preaches and is limiting all other exposures as well. In any case I hope you get to see Mum soon.

Good luck with tomorrows weigh in :D fingers crossed for a big result.

It is frustrating when we want to see our nearest and dearest, But vaccines do not work immediately they take a few weeks for our immune system to create an immunity.

No vaccine is a 100% protection but gives you a good protection against whatever disease you are protecting against.

Glad you are starting to notice the benefit of the weight you have lost. I am sure the more you lose you will find less pain in joints and back. If back does not show signs of improvement worth trying to see a physiotherapist if at all possible. Why I said this I had a bad back despite weight loss. The physio found I was all out of kilter as I was favoured one side over the other. I never realised everything i did from sitting to standing I favoured my left leg/side. After physio my back lots better. Never going to be 100% I was a nurse in the days when lifting aids were only something I could dream off. So lots of wear and tear.

Yes - she's had 2 doses more than 3 weeks ago. We would be meeting outside and so I'd hoped to see her sooner!

Today - down a lb overnight so that makes it officially a stone in a month and a day - and under 50 for the BMI of 49.1.

I will monitor the results this next month to see if I can continue to shed eating so well. 34 weeks to the end of the year so at 1lb a week would be 34lbs more pounds lost - 2 stone 6lbs and at 2lbs a week I will have lost 4 stone 12lbs, making 5 stone 12lbs - i.e. nearly 6 stone.

It's odd - one or two pounds a week seems almost irrelevant until I see it as a consistent cumulative results taking me to the mid teens, a substantial loss. I'd guess that will take me down from size 26/28 to somewhere around 20-22. Steady does it!

I am really pleased for you on your 1stone lost a great achievement. It is good that your BMI has come below 50. I am sure that had been one of your mini goals.

It boost you thinking if you continue losing steadily you will lose X amount of weight. I do the same. If consistent in losing as I am I will have lost 7 stone in a year.

You will soon be dropping dress sizes . I think at about 1.5 stone off I was in a dress size down as tops were hanging off me and trousers would not stop up lol

the other bit of mind tricking I try to do, to boost the value of the losses is to say ok.. that 10lb's took ages... but if I hadn't done this, I'd STILL be 10lbs' heavier. possibly even more...

motivation is a fickle friend isn't it!

Yes certainly a fickle friend motivation. It can soon leave you at the drop of a hat with no warning
