Get to slinky again and staying there ......

that's the right attitude, progress is progress and we're not on any deadlines.

A hickup re apple crumble yesterday. I stay on track by not having carbs ready to hand. So cooking some of the last of the apples as a crumble for MrAG was not a good move. I'll use one to make him a celery coleslaw thingy and put the remaining ones out for the thrushes and blackbirds.

Off to clean our Airbnb (formerly known as the sitting room and downstairs bath!) as someone has 2 days work so is staying tonight and tomorrow. When I closed my business, we put a door in the hall and created a self contained Guest suite (microwave and kettle, no kitchen kitchen sink) using the front door.

We now sit in the kitchen and use the back door. 6 1/2 months without income. It's been tough.

We are fully booked from the 12th for 10 weeks and summer is filling up fast. So at least there is some money then.
We have also turned our house into part Air B&B here in Luxembourg! It is almost always occupied with euro travellers. At the moment it has a guest from Bulgaria who came in November to short stay whilst looking for a house.....He's still here! It has saved us during my husband's redundancy after 27 years working for the same company! They let him go at aged 50!

That's good. Sorry to hear about your husband. I can't get a professional job - ageism is rampant. Has he sorted out work?

Re Airbnb: We use igms for messaging and beyond pricing for pricing in line with demand. Really useful tools.

He has spent some time re-training and obtaining a new skill set high in demand here, his job was very specialist and it would mean a relocation again. He found some short term work for 1 year, but is now supported by the Luxembourg Government who pay you 80 percent of your former salary for a period of time, and longer when you reach 50. So We are managing. I have just also got a new short term job working for the Ministry of Health, now that I can finally speak French to level b2.2 (a level regarded as fluent for health professionals). I start on Monday! You are full of useful information, thank you for the tool suggestions. Rents are ridiculously high here in Luxembourg, hence why my guest has not left yet, he will not find anything reasonable quickly!

Well done! You are doing so well! And with a diet that is maintainable!

I started keto low carb eating on 22.3.21 weighing 318.6lbs and plan to lose 130.6lbs. I've lost 21.6lbs in 63 days. - just over 2 months. I am 297.4lbs today - 109lbs total to go. Good to have left the 300s. Next stop from 21 to 20s in stone. Funny how these steps matter! 1st7.6lbs lost - 6.78% down.

Month One:13.4lbs down I 6.8lbs I 3.8lbs I 0.6lbs I 2.2lbs I
Month Two: 8.2lbs down I 3lbs I 1lb I 0.4lbs I 1.4lbs I 2.4lbs I

For me, this was a good week - 2.4lbs down. It's strange as I am being pretty consistent - not eating unless I am hungry which Is so much easer to do when not eating white stuff - bread/pasta/sugar/flour etc.

Results are not straight line. No real explanation on why 2 weeks ago, I was less than 1/2 lb down in the week and other weeks it's more. At this rate, it will take me more than 14 months to get to goal - probably 18 months as weight loss will slow nearer to goal.

I find myself attracted back to vlcds just to speed it up. I chose keto to establish a pattern of eating so I can sustain my new weight and not regain.

I know from past experience that will go down a size every 2 stone, and most people won't notice and/or won't comment until I have shed 4 stone. Some don't notice. others don't feel safe to comment in case I am not actually losing weight.

I track my food here https://www.minimins.com/threads/low-carb-eating-keto-and-fasting.368010/post-8083971 I don't weigh or count. I know that most of my meals are low carb because of what I eat - and I am usually below 20 carbs a day and almost always under 60.

If you are interested, check out www.dietdoctor.com - lots of free info on low carb and fasting or delayed eating. No need to subscribe - until you want a deeper dive into their videos and plans. It's run by medics so is reliable.

Hi Ali, you're doing fab! I know it's hard to be patient when you know there is a long road ahead, but every few pounds makes a difference to how we feel, our health, even how we think and look.

I did a VLCD years ago, pretty sure it's what gave me gallstones and led to surgery and I'm not convinced in the long run it helped my journey really, it all went back on, but I did have a really difficult time period of my life just after so I guess things could have been different.

I'd try fast 800 as it fits well alongside keto/low carb, and it's easier to re-adapt to eating a bit more down the line. I think using the VLCD diet packs really makes us long for 'real' food.

It's all for you to choose of course and only you know how your body reacts to things/how your mind reacts to things.

I am sorry you had gallstones. Very painful. And there is a strong connection with gallstones and vlcds. That's why I had regular blood tests when I was doing mine.

Fast 800 is great. It is lowish carb - a bit more complex carbs than I eat. I also think their use of medjool dates to sweeten things is an affectation. I'd replace with erythritol. I can't be doing with buying food for a single meal recipes for one (as Mr AG would prefer other food) - but the point is good. I can reduce fats and nuts and probably still feel satiated and get good weekly results.

you don't necessarily need to follow their recipes, just the concept - that's what I did recently, choosing my own lower carb choices and sticking to the 800 calories and Intermittent fasting. I'm not sure it's needed though to be honest. The research is showing more as time goes on that the calories matter much less that the type of food and when you eat it.

Hi @AliGal just catching up on your dairy. You are doing so well. Have to say do not understand much about Keto, Vcld, so all that gone over my head. But it is good to see what plans other are on, can still get ideas and inspiration. The SW plan suits me at the moment as it is straightforward and easy to get my head around. But I am still open to trying other plans or pinch ideas from them. Keep going, it is never a straight line, if it was we would all be Skinny Minnie's!! :) :) :)

Great thread Ali you seem to be smashing it! I’m sticking to the Fast800 diet, it’s getting easier now I’m a couple of weeks in. Just need to be super planful around up and coming events, BBQ on Saturday for my mums birthday ( chicken and salad it is then) and elderly neighbours round for lunch Sunday. This ones more tricky as I can’t really roll out a salad for them so am making lunch my one meal of the day and steering clear of the carbs! Good luck everyone, onwards and downwards!

Hope they both went well!

I am 1.4lbs down this week. That's really good as I had a close encounter with a cholate bar. Usually I eat a square or two of 70-85% dark choc- but this was a bit lower at 56% & sweeter and I found it compelling! Bar eaten. Memo to self - only by 70% dark choc to avoid compulsion. I also had a few drinks, the first alcohol in months. I bought several 75 calorie gin in a can drinks from Lidl - so gin in moderation with the girls on a zoom call.
So week 9 and 23lbs down - over a stone and a half My BMI is below 50 at 47.8.. Checking in on Monday has , for the past 2 weeks, been helpful in dissuading me in making bad choices over the weekend.

Out of 21 stone and into the 20s next week?

75 cal gin sounds great, just what you need for a hot summer's day! Gin and tomic is the only alcohol I think I miss at the moment :).

Just catching up Ali and you are doing great, well done.
