Hen weekend

Hello all.

I am helping to organise my bestie's hen do in August and am looking for some insiration as to where to go and what we can do there.

We live near to London so don't really want to go there, we'd like to something a bit different. As much as I love London, I spend my week here and it gets a bit annoying after a while!

So these are some of the ideas I've had...

- Oxford
- Bristol
- Manchester
- Leeds
- Harrogate
- Cambridge
- Cardiff

Are there things in any of these places (or others, I am open to suggestions) that you would recommend would be good for a hen do. There will be about 15 of us, she doesn't want a spa weekend as she worked for a spa company, and I think anything 'active' (go karting, paintballing) is deffo out!

Any ideas would be marvellous!!

My friend had her hen-do in Bristol and was really good fun. We went to a recording studio and recorded 2 songs which was very funny as most of us couldn't sing! On the Saturday night we went to a kareoke bar which gave you your own little room and machine. It was fantastic. There was a little buzzer on the wall which you pressed to order food and drinks. After that we went on to a club.
I went to another hen-do last August in Paris at the rock-en-seine festival. I'm not a festival fan, but this was really fun. It was quite chilled out and not as mental as UK festivals, and still had some big names - Paulo Nutini, massive attack, stereophonics...that was on bank holiday weekend and would definitely recommend for something a bit different. Obviously depends on your budget!
Hope you have a fantastic time, whatever you decide to do!

I was going to suggest a recording studio, I did this for my sisters 40th & it was so much fun.

I was in London on Friday for our work conference & then me & OH went to Brighton for Saturday night. It only took 50 mins on the train. We went to a jazz club Friday night then went for a walk on the prom & round Brighton on Saturday. It was a really nice weekend.

I'd take a look where you can easily get to on the train from London & then see what that place has to offer.

You could go pottery painting somewhere.

You could go to a festival, if thats your sort of thing?
i went to a hen do at a go ape centre! It was amazing. There was a party at night with some kids games and there was a game were you are split in teams and given toilet roll and some other bits and are given 15 mins to make a diy wedding dress. The best team won some small prizes.
Whatever you do, hope you have fun!

My Step Mum's hen do was good. We went to Ask (Italian restaurant) and then to a Comedy club that had a bit of a disco on afterwards. That was in Hertford. Think I enjoyed it because I stayed in the Salisbury Arms Hotel there, and it was the nicest hotel I've stayed in as much as anything, but over the evening there was something to keep everyone happy, and she had a real mix of ages and tastes to please.

manchester is a brilliant night, we all love it and the travelodge central is reasonable and comfortable if you dont want to spend a lot per person

Cardiff's pretty good - lots of nice bars and restaurants, plus a couple of the bars do cocktail making classes - I did one with work and bet it would be fab for a hen do. PM me if you do fancy Cardiff x

For my Hen weekend we went down to Brighton as I didn't want to go too far so people could get there at a reasonable time on the Friday.

We hired a house as I figured it would be more sociable than a hotel and it was great, on the Friday night we stayed in and ate pizza and nibbles (I wasn't on plan that weekend!!), had a few (!) drinks and played silly games, it got everyone mixing and was a great ice breaker.

Saturday during the day we went to the pier, played on the arcades etc and generally just chilled before heading to the Adonis Cabaret in the evening.

I loved my Hen weekend so much, only had 12 of us which was a great number, anymore and I'm not sure we could have done a house, this is what I wanted and worked out brilliantly.

Yes it was really cheesy and good fun, we had people of all ages go and everyone had a laugh, I didn't particularly like being dragged on stage as I'm quite self conscious but I'm also game for a laugh so went along with it however if your Hen isnt up for going on stage perhaps don't make it obvious she is the Hen!

After the cabaret it becomes a night club so you don't need to move on and there's different rooms depending on what music you like.

Also there is loads of food at the buffet before the cabaret starts so you don't need to eat before you go.

Have fun.. I'm sure you will! X

i'm organising my future sister-in-laws hen do and we're planning on going to the races during the day then having a meal followed by a night on the town (only local cos she doesn't want to be away overnight) but this way everyone can be involved and we can be all girly and civilised with the mums and aunties during the day, have something to eat and then start with the hen night silliness when they're safely tucked up at home.

whatever you do i'm sure you'll all have a great time :)

Yea, see I really liked the idea of Brighton but I have a feeling that she went on a hen do there last year for someone else. So kind of wanted to do something a bit different for her.

Although after watching my big fat gypsy wedding last night, I'm well up for a Monster Truck outing!! xx

I missed it last night.. From what I hear I need to watch it on Catch Up TV!

I went to a Hen weekend in Leeds, that was a good laugh, also been to Butlins in Bognor which isn't too far on a 80's weekend.

I dont envy your job of organising it! Enjoy x

How about Stratford on Avon? I know I am the least qualified on the site to advice but a few years ago I had to go to Stratford and loved it and was impressed with the things to do.

We stayed in a hotel right on the river. It was brilliant and the night life was great.

Park Street in Bristol is a good night out, The clubs, ( Ex restaurants and shops so small ones) are free before 12 and you get a stamp when you go out, so you can walk up and down between 4 of them and theres restaurants inbetween.

Get there after 12 and you pay £5 atall of them.:(

Casino round the corner is open 24/7 free Tea Coffee and coke:D.
With a £5 bet to first time users...good fun on the 25p roulette table:)

Hiya, here are some of the Hen Dos I've been on over the years - they've all been a blast:

8 of us on a canal boat in Birmingham - fantastic!
15 of us filming a music DVD - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - in Brighton (included full on 80s gear!)
Weekend in London, watching Dirty Dancing then partying
Bath spa weekend
Weekend in a country house and doing Go Ape, we did a Murder Mystery evening (bought a pack from the internet and all stayed in character the whole evening - hilarious)
Jersey - shopping and drinking and dancing
Spa Day followed by champagne and cupcakes - lovely!
Karioke in Bristol - we had our own singing booths! - briliant!

Just a few ideas! Have no idea what my 2 girls will plan for my hen do! xxx
