I think it is an age thing, nobody seems to spell anymore its all code.

I use DH - Dear(or Darling) Husband - often used in an ironic sense in my case:p
DP I would imagine is Dear/Darling partner

Also IMO - In my Opinion

I think that is the only ones omitted from the list above though:)

It's not an age thing :D

There are two types of 'txt' speak. One for the internet (forums, emails etc) and one for mobile phones.

I think the internet ones started probably because everyone used to be on dial up, so it was important to cut out at least some of the letters to make it quick to type and read.

Mobile txt speak was probably created for quick typing (because of the lack of a normal keyboard) and size of screen on a mobile ;)

I hate trying to read mobile txt speak on a forum. Drives me nuts.

Thanks everyone for replying, I feel quite ancient now! I struggle to understand what my daughters text to me sometimes and the stuff they type to their friends is just beyond me.
Thats a really comprehensive list, Mini. I think i'll print that off and put it beside the computer screen.
Thanks all and have a losing weekend.:p

Im one of these people who spells everything in full and punctuates my texts :giggle:

Me too :D but I am definitely a shorthand forum typer for certain common phrases but not just to shorten words for the sake of it.

PMSL seems to be missing .... I took this to mean "peeing my self laughing" in the context it was written.

Perhaps there ought to be a sticky "dictionary" for us poor oldies to refer to ;).

also IYKWIM If you know what I mean! That was a favourite of mine!

M xx
