My FIL - RANT!!

Well for a start the pct's are being done away with. Secondly the ambulance can go to any hospital at your request. Unless its life threatening then we must go to the closest. Im forever going across london!

Oh are all pcts being done away with cheryl? how will the control things?

The GP's of the area will become a consortia and be responsible for commissioning services in their areas.

Jim have you tried contacting your local Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) they might be able to give you some help and advice with it being an ongoing problem. Also maybe have a word with your Local Involvement Network (LINk) to give them the information, they will only record it and not necessarily do anything about it but if they have had other complaints about the same services they would investigate it. But definitely PALS for some direct help as it is an ongoing concern.

Now the practical advice is over I'm sending you lots of Hugs!!

Is that so Cheryl, well they never told us that.:mad:

Thanks Andrea, thanks love. I'll try them.

Yes hun. We work on the fact of a patient being under a hospital for any reason ie if its ongoing pain for x reason then we would take them to their treating hospital. Drs referals are generally pre booked to the hospital of families choice unless come under first reason and only in life threatening conditions do we over rule anyone and go straight to the nearest. We can go to any hopsital. I had to take the little old lady i was talking about to a different hospital as it was easier for her family to visit.

Yep the legislation is all about 'Patient Choice' these days. As Cheryl says the patient can decide where to go if there is a choice. The new government are pushing it instead of changing it too. 'No decision about me, without me'

The information on the Patient Choice agenda states
Your choices include:

  • The right to choose a GP and to change to another if you're not happy with the service you receive.
  • The right to choose which hospital to go to if your GP refers you to see a specialist.
  • The right to be involved in decisions about your healthcare and to be given the information you need to do this.
We are not allowed to post links on here so I will just say that if you google patient choice it will bring up some NHS information for you to have a look over. Have a read then stick it to em!!! PALS would help you with all of this as well.

Gosh, loads of helpful information here!

Jim hope your FIL stays safe, and that the carers can look after him properly.

Thanks again Andrea, I'm determined to get all the big guns firing here, it's been going on way too long.

You should Jim, it's been awful from what I've read. And that's what these services are there for.
Good Luck, I have my fingers crossed for you.

Not really, he's been quiet. Colleen arranging a full carer/social worker/health team meeting, but it's proving a little difficult to organise.

she really shouldnt have to do it herself should she?

No but as others have pointed out, and from our own experience Vicky, it's the only way to make it happen.

bloomin stupid! hope she gets it sorted out?

I do too Vicky thanks.

So sorry to hear things are still such a battle for you both :(. Your FIL is lucky to have you both around fighting this for him, although I am sure he doesn't really notice the effort or frustration. Least you have Olivia cuddles to keep you both sane xx

The joint meeting sounds like the best thing to do as the communication between areas can be very concerning. You have to wonder what happens to some of the people who do not have such determined families supporting them!

Send them all a memo telling them you want a multi-agency meeting and could they provide a conference room at Social Services. Give them a few dates to start with and tell them you would like something arranged in the next 7-14 days. If it is in writing it can be produced later x
