hi all,

Just a general wondering, can peanuts throw you our of ketosis??

My colleague who alos does this diet had to eat something as she felt faint and th only think she had a round her that she thought be ok were unsalted oven baked peanuts.

When she told her Consultant, she said it was fine as it wouldnt throw her out of ketosis as it is a protein?

Interesting question.

Because so what if eating peanuts won't throw you out of ketosis? There are still calories in peanuts.

It'd be a far better idea to have an extra shake or bar (in fact, carrying around a bar for this sort of thing is a really good idea).

And that's assuming that lack of food was the reason for the faintness - which it probably wasn't. It was more likely to be a drop in blood pressure that caused the faintness, rather than drop in blood sugar (because being in ketosis keeps your blood sugar on an even keel). A glass of water might have worked just as well.

Great answer Lily ... we sometimes get so fixated on the ketosis thing we forget about the calories thing.

also the fat content.... ouch. i know you can eat a few peanuts on atkins. however, also the salt content could make you retain water.
