Please advise on ketosis

Hi

I'm on day 4 of cd and have read lots of people saying about ketosis. I have never tried a vlcd before and had never heard of this. From what I've read it's a good thing. I read about ketostix which indicate ketones in urine, so decided to get some.
Went to boots this morning and bought them, and have been reading the instructions etc. Now I've worried myself as it says too many ketones can bring on something called ketoacidosis, which can lead to a coma:eek: :eek: :eek:

I know I'm probably just being silly, but can someone explain the benefits of ketosis.

I'm too scared to try one now:eek:

Does anyone know what would be too high a level of ketones?

The ketones generated due to the diet are mild and it is called benign dietary ketosis as it is engineered as opposed to a symptom of something.

Therefore worry not!

The major advantage of ketosis is that it is a total hunger supressant and hence makes not eating bearable, (if you eat 400 calories of carbs every day you would climb the walls!)

Ketoacidosis is something which can happen to diabetics - ketosis is different. The Atkins diet and other high protein low carb regimes rely on ketosis to facilitate weight loss too - and CD is carb/calorie counted and nutritionally balanced to achieve a mild state of ketosis. So, don't worry, and once it kicks in, you don't feel too hungry and you actually feel quite good!

when you wee on your stick it should be light to medium pink... if it is darker you need to drink more water...

Not too bad today... my first test will be work tomorrow... I think to start it will be hardest in work, so will have to think a way round things... Have tetra packs so maybe that is the answer for work... I am in the pink too!!!

Will have to start this joint diary!!

Ketosis is great

I am lovin being in ketosis i am never ever hungry and i definately have more energy. I am sure you will also find it great. Just remember to drink your water and you will be fine. Goodluck All

I havent felt hungry today, but was tempted to pick a bit of cheese when making dinner for my family. But thats just a habit that I've got to break.

Well done on your weight loss so far...looking good!!
