very good PYO around here
BL You may not know that the area where I live was famous for market gardening, growing fresh produce years ago. All this area was Nurseries, orchards and fruit/veg farms until it gradually got built up, Because it's at the foot of the Downs the micro climate suits growing crops. In fact about half a mile from here is the first ever and now famous chalk garden at Highdown Towers.
Anyway - that's why there are so many Garden Centres and a great PYO and farm shop. I have found that yes, prices are much cheaper than supermarkets and Huseyin is right about the packaging, carbon foot print, freshness etc.
If it's just for the 2 of you it's really worth it in the summer and can be fun too although hard on the back, neck shoulders ,be careful. Most of the stuff grows low.
A bit more history - the area used to be renowned and world famous (not California! - okay Europe famous) for tomato growing until they exported their methods and glass house secrets to Holland, who took it over and now they've got most of the business.
I can give you more info on where i get my
fruit/veg from tomorrow.

:sigh2:
