Hiya

Just wondering, are PYO Farms cheaper for Fruit and Veg? Everything is so expensive these days, I was considering doing the whoe pic-your-own thing, but my OH thinks its far more expensive??

Anyone know?

Its like most things, its cheaper if you buy in bulk. The best way is to grow your own, we do at home and its far more tastier and organic

Sorry, I have no idea, but it sounds good in that you have control over what you chose, and are saving all the unecessary packaging.

I'd be intersted to find out though if you get more information.

Growing your own fruit and veg can be a somewhat funny experience as I found when all my tomatoes, strawberries and other stuff didnt thrive in the UK weather lol!! Mind you a green house might have been a good idea!!

BL You may not know that the area where I live was famous for market gardening, growing fresh produce years ago. All this area was Nurseries, orchards and fruit/veg farms until it gradually got built up, Because it's at the foot of the Downs the micro climate suits growing crops. In fact about half a mile from here is the first ever and now famous chalk garden at Highdown Towers.
Anyway - that's why there are so many Garden Centres and a great PYO and farm shop. I have found that yes, prices are much cheaper than supermarkets and Huseyin is right about the packaging, carbon foot print,freshness etc.
If it's just for the 2 of you it's really worth it in the summer and can be fun too although hard on the back,neck shoulders ,be careful. Most of the stuff grows low.
A bit more history - the area used to be renowned and world famous (not California! - okay Europe famous) for tomato growing until they exported their methods and glass house secrets to Holland, who took it over and now they've got most of the business.
