Saving Syns - need advice

Hi Guys,

I have a question which has been on my mind throughout my slimming world journey and because I am an on-line SW subscriber I don't have the group support and advice - so I am turning to you lovely people for some advice.

The question is - can you save/carry over syns?

For e.g. - I have 10 syns p/d - could I carry over between 5/10 syns p/d and have them all at once say over the weekend to go out for a meal or indulge in a little alcohol (which most of us like at the weekend :p). Or do I have to stick to having my 10 p/d

I don't save them anymore, but if I know I need more syns for the weekend I cut down to around 10 a day and use flexi syns for the night out or take away or whatever it is, then try to stick to 10 a day the following week to make up for it. You are ok to carry syns over if you want, but my C recommends not carrying over into the next week, so if you WI on a Monday start your syns fresh on that day every week.

The 'official' SW advice is no. They say have 5-15 a day and start afresh the next day. This is to try and stop the 'famine or feast' approach that can happen with some diets so that you never have to worry about having used all your syns up and having none left (more likely to binge as a result). SW advise flexible syns for those occasions (like your birthday) when you KNOW you will go over syns but still want to retain control. So you would allow yourself in advance say 30, 40, 50 extra syns and then have them, stop at your limit and then carry on as normal the next day.

Having said that, many people who do SW do use their syns weekly and this works fine for them

Thanks everyone, I like the idea of both counting weekly syns down and using flexible syns. I don't have the tendency to binge or lose control over my syn intake so I think I'll try both options and see which one works best for me.

Sometimes for me the more syns I have the more syns my body seems to crave them (Does anyone else find that?) so I don't mind limiting my syn intake during the times I don't feel I need them (during the week). I get my sweet/sugar fix from grapes (which I'm convinced I eat too many of, if that is possible) I can then go out at the weekend and have my 70 syns.

But I will try both ways and see how it goes.

Seems like there is some conflicting advice on the SW website :nono:- I use the body optimising!

Nobody's fault here!

Having syns does make me crave even more syns! I think it's the sugars in some food? Someone was posting about it in the shoutbox earlier, have a scroll! :)
