Today is the beginning of the rest of my life and I have chosen the future I want for myself.;)
It is to be slimmer, fitter, healthier and happier. I want it and if I make the right cjoices I will get it. It's all up to me, no magic, no pills no potions just a sensible eating plan, exercise and consistency and eventually job will be done!:D
I my 'Fabulous food diary' I challenged myself to lose 10lbs in 13 weeks before Christmas. I lost 15, simply by recording what I was eating/drinking and making changes to some habits that I used to have. Over Christmas I have regained 3lbs! No too bad.

So, today is a new start, will weigh in on Wednesdays but try not to become too obsessed as I know this will be slow. I also want to dramatically increase my water consumption as I am so lazy about it and I know that it does help to drink lots.

So thats the plan; I think Dom1979 will be along shortly as we are taking this challenge together in the hopes of encouraging and supporting each other.

    Happy New Year Everyone!

Good luck Barb! I know you can do this since your 'lightbulb' moment a few months ago. No more wild rollercoaster for you ... your consistent approach will get you there AND preserve your sanity!

(I'm still on that rollercoaster - but following your journey with great interest :))

    Thanks Debbie

I wish you would get off your rollercoaster and come in the same mode of transport as me. I knwo you love the fast results of CD and I don't blame you but I also know from your struggles(and a lot of other peoples) that it is really tough.

Thing is I accept the fact that this is a very long haul journey. I am not going to get there in 3 months or 6 or probably even 12. But I don't care. I'm on my way, thats what matters. Eventually i will get to the size I am comfy with and I will have lost or managed some of my truly appalling habits and hopefully I will be satisfied.

I wish you all the luck in the world with whatever you do. Next week i hope to post that i have lost a lb or maybe even 2, would that be enough for you? or would it drive you mad? Think it over, unless of course you have decided deffo on the CD route.

    lots of love

It would drive me mad Barb - and that's me being honest.

I graduate in a year and NEED to be an acceptable weight by then: I refuse to have my graduation pics taken wearing a black marquee! If I'm not down to at least a size 14/16 by then, I won't have the pics taken - simple.
We're also hoping to go to Scotland for a week in August and I want to be MUCH lighter ... nothing to do with vanity and everything to do with walking up very steep hills!

However, I really want to adopt your approach once I get to an acceptable weight because it is so balanced and sane. I don't want to yo-yo anymore and hope this will be my last big swing 'down' ... once there, I want to stay more-or-less there! Your sensible approach to keeping a finger on the pulse without getting all extreme just might be the key to me staying where I want to be - and that's why I'm following your approach with such interest.

I'm hoping your ethos will rub off on me over the next few months :)

I think that is one FANTASTIC bit of motivation, just imagining those photos and how good they will be should keep you on the straight and narrow! Actually those steep hills are a good motivator too!

I'll be beside you every step of the way Debbie, we can BOTH do it, then we are going to meet up for that coffee!!!

good luck barb. You sound so focused and in control. Well done for only gaining 3lb over christmas and well done on losing 15lb in the run up to christmas.

I hope to take an approach like yours once i get to target. Like Russian Doll, I need the fast results that CD gives.

    Thanks Sam,

i must admit it is nice going into the new year feeling calm and not beating myself up for gaining loads. i was pretty happy with just 3lbs because I haven't been angelic, but then again I haven't been stuffing because there has been no 'last feast before starvation' feeling. I take my hat off to you cd'ers, i know I would struggle with that big time. But as long as you get the results you want then it has to be worth it. Good luck for the rest of your journey.

    love

I'll be holding you to that coffee Barb!

I have a few days of 'food freedom' left before I start SSing on Saturday but oddly enough, I'm not cramming in the last of the mince pies ... I've had enough of rich food and feeling all acidic so I don't think I'll be doing the 'last supper' thing.

I'm almost scared to admit to feeling just a teensy weensy bit positive ... ;)

Thats my girl! You let that positivity in! You can do this, think back to how fab you were feeling and know that you will again!!

It's all about the head; get that back in gear and you will be away. Looking forward to that coffee, perhaps it should be champagne though!!

A good first day, easier whilst at work not quite so easy at home where there are still about 3million chocs available!!!

Still, feel happy to have made a start and accept that it is going to be hard to get stuck in straight away.

as the saying goes. Recognising the potential pitfalls is half the battle - it shows you're conscious of what's about without being obssessive. A great start!

Memo to Barb: Make note not to buy so many chocs next year.

    Alternatively, send excess to

Will tell Mr Postie to look out for them

I didn't buy the chocs - thorntons direct lashed up my list for presents and sent them twice and then sent 2 boxes more to apologise! So £70+ of free yummy chocs! Given some away and the kids have 'helped' but crikey!
I would send them to Karion land but I think you are probably potty enough KD, without a sugar overload!

Oh no! You mustn't think that Barb. I'm much more sane after sugar overload. Honest[IMG][IMG]

OK, back in the land of chocolate... A good day yesterday, getting the nibbling back under control and feeling pleased with myself! Had a few chocs but as 'pudding' rather than as well as. Had celery with my lunch rather than crisps, wanted crunch not cals and whats more I think I enjoyed it better than crisps!!

It's the little things definately. Also still using my actifry, most days actually. It is fab, best chips ever and no oil hardly required. Chips now feel sin free which is great. I only have a few anyway but it's nice to feel they are a healthy option.

So I think the first week is going well, I am hoping to see a lb or 2 off this week. It is bound to be a bit harder with all the Christmas habits to re-conquer, but so far so good. It is 38 weeks till we go to Alaska, so I hope to be at least 2 stone down but probably nearer 3!
