The Wedding Dress Thread

Shirleen i got booked to do makeup for a steampunk wedding (back in my starting out days) and I got all excited coz it was something new and different.

NO! Steampunk-esque dress, boring as hell makeup. So when you have your steampunk vow renewel, i'll do your makeup for free yes?

Oh Becky it's so unusual! Who is the designer?

It was made by Romantica of Devon, as soon as I saw it I knew it was the one.

I saw it in a bridal catalogue at a wedding fair and I rang the company and they said it was last season and that they weren't
Making it any more and my only hope ww to find a bridal shop that still had a sample. You wouldn't believe the amount of shops I rang and trawled eBay every day. Anyway, to cut a long story short I stumbled across a bridal shop in the cotswolds (I live in Leeds) and I rang them as they had a pic of it on their website. She said she never had it in but said she would ring Romantica to see if they would make me one. I explained I'd spoken to them months previous however she said that she knew the owners and guess what, they made me one!

Keeping an eye on this thread. Only go engaged a week go so wedding is a while off yet but I do love looking at the pretty dresses!

All I have to do is convince Mr Shirleen!!!!

I don't have any photos but one of my ex's friends when she got married had a fitted cream dress, with swinging kind of skirt without train, but had a fitted silver plate armour bodice to the dress... looked competely awesome!

So, strapless dress, silver plate bodice and then cream for the skirt part... no veil, well, who would need one with that centre peice of a bodice!

That's my kind of wedding dress... if I ever find someone worthy!

I was unofficially engaged (i.e I want to marry you but let's not announce it until we are ready - we split 3 years later!) once to my ex many years ago, and was promised with the last one "I am so going to marry you in the next 2 years"! without it being official (4 years together, 3 living together) , and if I ever find someone worthy of me, I know what I want my dress to be like. My parents are religious but I'm a pagan so am thinking a civill ceremony at a castle type place followed by a handfasting... and maybe eve a blessing at my parent's local church at some point.

Ooooh pretty frocks everyone!

So far we have the venue booked, a photographer semi booked, and I have invites in the making (by moi) and favours - yes, a little bit backwards! Even though its not till next June, we're found so many people are already booked, hence why we are doing the booking of people now. If this photographer can't do it, then he will be the third which is already booked!

I've not dared look at wedding dresses yet, as if I see the one I want, I will have to get it there and then, as sooo many times in the past I have left stuff, then never been able to get them again, or anything similar! And I have no idea of what I want, or what will suit me, or anything at all.

And back to the saving pennies bit - how much are wedding cakes?!?! I've had a few quotes so far, and nothing is below £180 for the basics! At the minute, we are considering buying plain cakes, stacking them, then either buying a personalised topper, or just decorating it ourselves! OH also wants doves, but I refuse to pay £150 for something I can't eat, keep, or look at for more than 45 seconds, so he is going to buy some from his bird breeder friends.
In comparison to wedding things, my friends are naff - a teacher, a mortgage advisor, a trainee nurse and a web designer! I should have thought in advance and befriended a cake maker, photographer, vicar and a rich person with s****y cars :)

We're going for the church wedding. £391! Add on the organist and choir. But it will hopefully be worth it :)

My wedding cake is costing £250, that for 100 cupcakes stacked and a cake on top which can be cut, but that's only 6" or something.

I don't think that price is too bad because my cake is going to be really off the wall, iykwim. So for all the effort it's going to take i'm happy to pay that price, especially as she's doing us 2 personal cake toppers for that too.

I know a few people who have had the plain 3 tier cakes from m&s and had the florist or a dressmaker make something up to decorate it. If you are budgeting try that Tootz x

Yup, the M&S cakes are what we were looking at :)

Kinda wish we weren't on a tight budget as there are some wicked cakes out there which I would love, but alas! Hey, if my frock is less than I expect, I can find an epic cake :D

Look forward to seeing your cake though! Back to embossing my invites over the toaster, joys!

Embossing your invites of the toaster....dear lord! You'll be so proud of them when they are finished though!

I've booked my venue (Liverpool yacht club), my photog, dj, evening entertainment, dress, bridesmaids dresses are picked, cake, suits are picked, rings are bought....just need to invite people I think. And favours- the bane of my life! Also, i've booked my midnight blue cadillac to take me to the venue :)

Haha, I bought the favours first - mini kilner jars with multicoloured lids. We're having a rainbow colour scheme, and when I saw them, I pretty much bought them! Oh, and the fish bowls, just need to buy the actual fish :D

After the photographer is the DJ, the videographer (unless I can convince OH we don't need or *want* one), then cars, then I can chill out for a bit I hope.

The embossing thing seemed like an AMAZING idea, but I can't commit to a design I like yet, and really don't fancy freehanding all the invites, so will go on a stamp hunt ASAP. I'm a fussy bugger, I did have someone do me some sample invites, but I was being a pain in the bum with my fussyness, so figured I would save the poor woman the hassle and do them myself :) doubt it will come out cheaper than the £60 for the lot I was quoted, but oh well!

Like the sound of the car! Bit limited round here, but I will hunt out something I like

I'm doing wedding invites as a gift for my niece. A heat tool can be bought for £15-20 save you scorched card! Or pop along to a card making group and borrow theirs ( they may even help!) I help run a group and we would lol!
I'd lend you my heat tool but the postage would be prohibitive!
Have you decided on a design yet? Let me know if you want any hints tips best places to buy etc x

One of these is my dream wedding cake. I saw one in a cake shop in Liverpool years ago and completely fell in love with it! Not a clue how dear they are though - but I'm guessing pretty expensive due to the time and effort that is put into them!

A wedding thread! Omg woo lol

My wedding dress had handset swarovski crystals on the front and back and the train had A & R our initials on it :D my bridesmaids (all 8) were in royal blue and I had my roses dyed royal blue to match hehe here are some pics.

The first pic should be me and my hubby under the menai bridge.

We got our cake from asda, just had one tier though & decorated it with flowers...

Have u checked out Costco?

Our wedding cost £2000...

We had registry office, a sit down buffet at golf club, my dress was from a charity shop that specialises in wedding dresses. The dresses are end of range from bridal shops so all new.

My bridesmaids dresses from monsoon in the sale. Flowers were done by a florist friend. We just played all our music from the ipod through the speakers in the room.

All my friends/family said it was the best wedding they'd been to...

Family and friends always say that though we had 5 family weddings within a year and every wedding was the best wedding they have ever been to! Lol

Please don't take offence I'm not saying your wedding wasn't I'm saying family and friends will say it was the best even if it wasn't.

I had the best day of my life I couldn't care less if people enjoyed it or not because it was my day not theirs lol (everyone had a great time but that's beside the point)

I'm ashamed to say we didn't have a budget and I don't know how much we spent but I know photography and the video and our wedding albums cost £4500 but they were worth it because after the big day you only have them and memories!

We didn't go crazy though, we made our pew ends and the flowers for the daytime center pieces and we made our save the date cards, invitations, order of service, name cards for the tables, table name cards and the seating plan. They were all stunning my mem and sister are really creative!

Richard's Cakes Manchester | Wedding Cakes Manchester | Custom made cakes at fantastic prices Manchester

This guy does them too, and from what I remember, they aren't that bad! He has a facebook page too which has some prices on - a two tier with simple decs and personalised toppers is £180 I think, but his top table cakes are ace!

I got married in my jeans, got the bus to the venue and had dinner at friends afterwards. I have no regrets about doing it that way, although do regret a failed marriage.
