TOUGH LOVE-APPLY WITHIN

proper slim and slinky is def where I want to be!! Liked ur post about the weekend...impressive.

Yea, Sasser - I'm with you on a mission to get proper slim and slinky! And that Bonnie Boo's weekend post was impressive. Loving this thread and you All!

Er...WOWSERS! That is fantastic news! Well done you. What an amazing feeling eh? Just goes to show, if you get your head down and your butt in gear, the losses will follow. You must be over the moon!

I am so pleased. I woke up at 6am and couldn't get back to sleep!

just what the hell did you do???

thats IMPRESSIVE!

I just noted you are 6-0 tall, thats an inch shorter than me!

because you are tall do people tell you you have lost enough?? this happens to me at least four times a week and it's starting to grate me!

well crack on with the rest of it then, we wanna see you smash your Aug target in July, LOL

I think this was the first week I took the eating seriously. I reduced my calories to 1400 (usually eating 1200-1300), I did all three of my runs and I tried to be active, drinking lots of water and not snacking. I had a snack blip on Saturday afternoon (Peanut Butter- It will no longer be allowed in the house) and I haven't really been teaching that much so I've been sat at my desk all week. I was really hoping to lose 2lbs this week! I've weighed myself about 5 times, I can't believe!

Oh yeah, people always tell me how awful I'll look 'skinny'. It's just because they've never seen me not fat!

Definitely planning to smash the August target this month. Only 2.5lbs to go to that :D

Woooooo check you out!!!! That's a phenomenal weight loss you must be on a right high. Well done!!!!!! You clearly deserve buckets of praise you must have really tried mega hard this week. Amazing.

Thanks so much Conlou!

You guys rule!

That is fantastic.:)

Thank you so much!

Apparently this was quite the day- I've also found a regular swimming buddy and I signed up for a 5K this morning! Nuts!

Yay. just wanted to gloat- what a weekend, chinese takeaway on Friday night, all day bbq on saturday, out with friend for breakfast on sunday and then work summer bbq on sunday afternoon! And I smashed it - have eaten less, if not the same, that I would have done if I had stayed at home. Simple veggie stir fry and rice for the chinese, plain salads and grilled chicken for the bbq (no booze and very proud that i avoided the puds and had strawberries and a muller light instead), poached eggs, lean bacon, mushrooms and one slice of toast for brekkie out and only salads at the bbq (one beer but counted it on SW tracker). Now tucking into a massive plate of SW free veggie curry. Go me!

Just proves that you can socialise and be around food if you put your mind to it - but thanks for the pre-motivation all, your comments were ringing around in my head as I stood at the pudding table! Have a good week everyone.

Socialising is pretty hard, best thing to do is become a health bore and take your own stuff, stay sober, tell everyone you are now a boring fat-free health hippy and life is over

then be the first to dance naked on the table and stomp in the trifle!!!

Well done on that sublime BBQ chicanery, lessons in there for EVERYONE, thanks for posting

Today we need to talk about sleep

I don't think I get enough sleep and since losing this three and a half stone I sleep less, more lightly and have more trouble dropping off - I figure I am generally more alert and have usually exercised a little most evenings, which are most probably contributory factors

but I am waiting to spring out of bed every morning feeling fantastic and refreshed and it ain't happening
who's gonna be our sleep guru?

I don't have a proem getting to
Sleep or staying asleep, it's the damn babies waking me up. At 14 months and 2.5 you'd think they'd be over that stage. 4 times I was up
Last night. And to
Add insult to
Injury my obsessive weighing has bitten me on the arse. I've apparently gained 3 pound since last night. And no I didn't raid the fridge while I was up with my sleep terrorist children. I've been great this week so passing it off as temporary bloat. Damn it.

And don't overstimulate your brain. No caffeine after 6pm, don't eat dinner too late and unwind with something that isn't the TV or the computer before bed. :)

My OH said I used to get sleep apnoea - apparently is gone now, along with the snoring and the 40 cubic meters per hour of wind at the other end! lol

maybe I do need less sleep, but I feel like I want more!

I 'net browse most evenings and with intentions of hitting the sack at around 10, I usually get there around 11.30 - this sounds like a bad habit

I'm up at 6.40 every morning, with or without an alarm - so I reckon I get 6.5 - 7 hrs, depending how well I drop off - at least once a week I really do not drop off until 2am or gone, this makes the day a slog

better habits in the evening sound like a start...

I recon the impact of sleep on weight loss shouldn't be underestimated - in a totally unscientific quote, I have read a study recently which showed that people who have one hour less sleep than they need each night eat an extra 250 calories the next day. I recon in the past i have regularly mistaken tiredness for hunger and reached for something sugary and stodgy to make me feel better and more awake.

I am no sleep guru though, I often struggle to drift off. For what it's worth I recon dropping the room temp by a couple of degrees, especially in summer by opening the window, makes me much more snuggly and sleepy under the duvet. And the fresh air helps.

It is the pigging television which is my worst enemy...last night I sat through the national and regional news even though I wasn't really interested, then didn't get to bed until gone 11. Am nodding off at my desk!

Lou, I don't know how you do it, being woken up 4 times a night. I would be eeeeeeeeevil the next day!

Can I just have a little space to gloat!? After a confidence crisis and a bad weekend I am feeling very virtuous today. I had a work conference yesterday and walked straight past the FIVE MASSIVE PLATES OF CHOCCY BISCUITS and helped myself to an orange and grapes from the tiny fruit bowl!! Success!!!! :)

Well done Sparty, that is a success! Isn't that what this weightoss thing is all about? A chain of lots of little successes threaded together like beads on a necklace, then eventually you get there! Well done you.

I reckon that exercise at night is a no-no at night. I feel really buzzed after exercise and would never be able to get to sleep. I exercise first thing. If you want to do something in the evenings, perhaps a walk? Thinking warm, summer nights........ well, I was born an optimist.

Then, you have to work out what works for you. A nice hot bath/shower? As has already been said, hot drink? A good book in bed? Or perhaps a really boring one ;)

There seems to be lots of evidence that adequate sleep is really important for weight loss. Good luck finding a solution for you.

Exercise in the evening is a mistake for sure. Exercise as early as possible.

You need to start winding down at least an hour before you intend to sleep. I usually meditate or listen to some White/pink/brown noise (google if you don't know what they are). Artificial light isn't great for our hormones and sleep systems, so try spending that hour before bed in the dark.

For me, I feel best after 6 hours of sleep, a bit of a zombie if I have 8. Everyone is different, so experiment a bit and see what works for you.

I have never had trouble sleeping, I exercise after work at around 6/7, and by the time I get home, make dinner, and eat dinner, I am totally exhausted! I find that the gym tires me out so much I am longing for my bed! Having said that I love sleep. I can easily sleep to midday If Im not disturbed. The only problem is drinking water too late. I think I need to stop before 8:30 as Im up to the toilet otherwise.

This thread is absolutely what I need! Large kicks to my lardy posterior please! I have been messing about for ages half-heartedly doing SW and expecting the weight to magically fall off and then surprised and dismayed when it doesn't?!? Haven't weighed myself for about a month. I'm going on holiday at the weekend and of course am nowhere near the size I intended to be for holidays. I don't want to give in to the poor me, such a failure boo hoo but I'm pretty ticked off with myself. I know it's not great timing to jump back on the wagon 4 days before going on holiday but you have to start where you are. Any advice oh wise harsh people on what I should do? Going to France - cheese bread wine problems. Should i weigh myself this week or wait until I come back?

yes i have turned into a bit of a misery guts since having my daughter 2.5 years ago...i have a teenager but he slept brill and i didnt know my luck until i had my daughter and she didnt sleep through til she was 14 months old, then 5 months later i gave birth to my other daughter and she does have spells of sleeping through but she wakes most nights, screaming her head off for whatever reason. im done in. i need at least 8 hours to feel human and motivated the next day, preferably 10 hours, ive always slept alot though, my mum said i didnt once wake for a feed in the night as a baby and slept most of the day...she took me to doctors and he sent her away with a flea in her ear lol. i DEFINITELY feel more hungry when im tired, but i have a coffee now instead of food if its not too late in the day ;)

Crikey you don't look old enough to have a teenager!

I say weigh yourself now, get a handle on it before you go away, and stick to SW like glue while you are away. You could say 'well I don't go on holiday very often so I am going to just enjoy it' but that assumes you can't enjoy a holiday and be sensible about food at the same time. Don't let yourself have it as an excuse and set yourself up for a failure before you have even got on the plane. Especially with slimming world, you can still have a little bit of cheese as a healthy extra and use your syns for wine - and eat free stuff for the rest of the day (fruit for brekkie, salad for lunch and a nice meat/veg main course for dinner. If you really feel yourself being tempted, give yourself the extra 15 'flexible syns' per day - so you would have 30 in total that day (1 bottle of wine!). At least that way you know that you will have a small loss or stay the same when you get back, and not a massive gain which will only demotivate you even more.

Lots of walking to see the sights, maybe even a run when you get the time (don't know if you run) and you can have a nice holiday and a nice weigh in when you return. Plus don't forget you can have as many moules marinaire as you like - they are free on SW!!!

Good luck and sorry if that sounds harsh, but you did ask for kicks to the posterior. Good luck and have a fab time!
