Okay i'm going to have a bit of a rant here for no particular reason other than it annoys me lol. I'm a vegetarian. That means i don't eat meat, fish or anything with animal products in such as gelatine or animal rennet. I'm not a vegan because i eat cheese, eggs etc.

It really annoys me when people say to me "Ooh, i'm a vegetarian too. I love my fish & seafood." No, you're not a vegetarian. Then they say to me "So, you're a vegan then?"

I know this rant has nothing to do with anything but it just winds me up cus a few people i know have said they are. Now i'm going off on one haha xx

My biggest gripe is that if you eat out goats cheese is always involved !!!!
I don't eat fish, meat or eggs so struggle a lot when out and about. I have found SW to be the most veggie friendly diet though and there is always something to eat which is great.

i agree that SW is very veggie friendly. I also agree about goats cheese although i love goats cheese. My mum and fiance are veggie too. I know what you mean about the fish thing, Sallyannie. I went out with my mum once for a meal and we asked what the veggie option was and they said fish! You would think a restaurant would get their information correct wouldn't you? x

I always think of myself as a 'demi veg' (I think that is the right name for it) because I only eat white meat (poultry), but I do eat fish, seafood, cheese & eggs.

I only eat chicken or turkey a couple of times a week, I mainly eat fish and quorn products.

I have'nt touched red meat or offal now for about 7 years, I gave it up because it was said to be bad for arthritis (I have rheumatoid arthritis) and I have to say that I don't miss it now.

Thanks Donnie. I did wonder what people who ate fish and chicken only were called.
My mother was virtually bed ridden with
rheumatoid arthritis.
She had it most her life. It started when she was 16 and spent months in bed. It stopped and started throughout her life.
She was a fantastic tennis player, when she was fit but had to give it up in her forties due to the rheumatoid arthritis.
She also gave up "red meat" as she was told even then (seventies) that it was not good. She did eat a lot of veal as that is lean, white meat and very healthy (not favoured here nowdays).
Broccoli is supposedly very good too!
She tried everything to ease the pain, acupuncture, herbs, you name it.
She traveled the world to see specialists but nothing helped long term.
In 1979 she was diagnosed with leukemia
and given 3 years to live. She lived 5 but the amazing thing is that she lived her last years pain free as the drugs they gave her for her blood stopped her pain!
Her hands were already quite crippled but at lease she had no more pain!
I can't remember what drugs she took but it would be good to know, and may help sufferers like you, Donnie!

I know someone who does not eat meat but eats fish is called a Pescatarian, I have been a veggie for more than 20 years and it is always a great topic for discussion when out socialising, when I first moved to Northern Ireland it was not understanded at all, most homes I went into would offer you a sandwich and I have to say thaT I didnt eat meat to which I always got the same reply ,' but to be sure you would take a slice of Ham would ya not'

Thank you Malaika, I have good days and bad, you just learn to live with it each day, the two things I hate is that I can no longer drive and I take steroids which are hindering my weight loss.

But I have a smashing hubby and family and I live in a lovely area of Norfolk and I have my trusty mobility scooter, so I have a lot to be thankful for.

I am seeing my rhuematologist at the hospital tomorrow, so fingers crossed he reduces the steroids, that would certainly be a big help.

Have a peaceful Sunday. X

What a lovely, positive outlook you have Donnie!
Good luck tomorrow. It would be great if you could reduce the streroids. They are horrible things, but of necessity!
Have a lovely Sunday, too.
The sun is out, and the day is warm. Happy days!

Ive been veggie for 20 years and if anyone asks why I dont eat fish I say

'' True vegetarians dont eat anything with a face!''

That normally stops them in their tracks:rolleyes:

I always say 'how can I justify that a cow is any less worthy than a fish, they were all living animals once, it would be no different than eating a human in my book, you always get the smart arse that says,'plants are living things too'

You know what annoys me? I'm not a vegetarian, but when I see people bashing the vegetarian lifestyle it really makes me see red. Like that pompous knucklehead Giles Coren... he wrote a piece in The Times recently entitled 'vegetarianism is an eating disorder,' and tried to make out it was all about vanity and keeping weight off. There can be a lot of passive aggressiveness from people towards vegetarians, I think. Some carnivores will project their own discomfort or guilt onto them and try to make out that they're unnatural or holier-than-thou freaks. That annoys me.

Here's that article if you want to fume a bit! Do a pig a favour! Ban vegetarianism now! - Times Online

The thing i love about doing SW is that its very veggie friendly (although i wish they could recommend some yoghurt's other then muller lights) I can cook for Both of us and my OH loves some of the more interesting recipes that i have found.

I've been veggie for around 13/14yrs now (I'm 25) and I agree with original post. I get really annoyed too. My boyfriend makes me laugh, sometimes he'll be eating something and say "you can't eat this, you're poorly" lol, cheeky git!! I couldn't go near fish or anything else with a face either! Lol. X

I don't think SW recommends Mullerlights over over yoghurts. There are yoghurts which are vegetarian friendly and equally as syn-free including Danone Activia Fat Free, Shape Feel Fuller for Longer and Onken Fat Free. You only need to avoid the strawberry varieties in the first two of these are they are coloured with cochineal.

The thing i love about doing SW is that its very veggie friendly (although i wish they could recommend some yoghurt's other then muller lights) I can cook for Both of us and my OH loves some of the more interesting recipes that i have found.
