Whats for tea tonight?

To be fair I don't use the sun dried tomatoes as I dont like them , the syn value was actually worked out without them so that is my mistake. I added them In because the lady who gave me the recipe gave it to me with sun dried tomatoes in it and some people on here may like the .

I do like sun dried tomatoes, I usually avoid them though so I can use my syns on wine! Haha.

Which chorizo ring do you use? I'd love to find one that's lower in syns as the one I get does seem high :(

Will check the fridge when I am home! Perhaps I am wrong as I am still getting used to working out the syns but I worked out that half a chorizo ring was 6syns,

do you use plain or spicy Spanish?

Umm not sure. It was the Tesco finest one and with the fat content it worked out to 35.5 syns for the ring, which is around 16 syns per 100g :( I know it can vary massively though so just need to find one that's a bit lower.

Goulash for me tonight with rice, veggies and a couple of dumplings.

Going to have my second attempt at SW KFC chicken tonight. Last time I used couscous, could hardly get it to stick to the chicken even with using egg and I just did not like the taste anyway. Tonight I'm going to give it a go with Smash instead :) We shall see...

How did it turn out?

My pork cheeks - absolutely delicious! Meltingly tender, could cut them with a spoon, and so, so tasty. I used a number of different recipe ideas from the internet and SW style of cooking (ie, fry light instead of tons of butter). Turned out to be 8 syns for the whole recipe, but only served 2 in the end because they shrank, but there is more than half the sauce left over, so although half the recipe had 4 syns per person I don't think they all ended up on my plate because the sauce is most of the syn value, so difficult to say but definitely less than 4 syns. I will make these again, but either double the meat to make more servings or adjust other quantities to make less sauce and be more accurate.
I served it with syn free veg, potato wedges and braised cabbage (from the SW site but I left out all synned ingredients and it was still delicious)

Braised pork cheeks recipe (these are the quantities I used tonight but would adjust next time as mentioned above):
4 pork cheeks
1 very large onion sliced
1 very large leek, sliced
500 ml chicken stock
250ml dry cider (4.5 syns)
half a cooking apple (cooked - 2 syns), peeled and cut into large chunks
2 tsp cornflour (1 syn)
1 tsp wholegrain mustard (1/2 syn)
bay leaf
salt and pepper
fry light

Season the pork cheeks. Spray a heavy pan with fry light and brown the cheeks off. Remove from the pan and set aside. Sauté the onions and leeks till soft and slightly caramelised. Add the cheeks back into the pan with the onions & leeks. Add the chicken stock, cider, bay leaf and mustard. Lower the heat and simmer for 2 hours (I baked mine in the oven on very lowest heat setting for 2 hours). Twenty minutes before finished add the apple. Just before serving remove the meat and turn up the heat to reduce the sauce. Add the tsp cornflour mixed with a little water to help the sauce thicken. Add the meat back to the sauce before serving.

I need to try this looks and sounds delicious! Never tried pork cheeks. What was the flavour and texture like?

Flavour like ham, strong pork or almost-but-not-quite unsmoked bacon, texture super soft, pull apart and juicy. With the slow cooking I thought any fat would cook out and rise to the top so I could scoop it off, but there was no fat at all.

baked salmon, crushed rosemary and garlic potatoes, roasted asparagus, spinach and a cream of tartar sauce. <img src="http://www.minimins.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=132184"/>

How many syns in the sauce pippa x

Syn free carbonara ! <img src="http://www.minimins.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=132607"/>

Oooooh can I have the recipe please katttb91 x

None :) I used fat free fromage frais, lemon juice and capers. It was lovely! It was adapted from a bbc good food recipe.

Wow thank you x

Pippa, I have double checked chorizo, it's a tesco one but it's only 150g so perhaps it's a smaller one. Any way based on the total calories and the rule of 1 syn to every 20, half the ring was 11syns making per serving of my Spicy chorizo stew 5,5 syns. Don't no how I got 3 the first time! I have had my partner double check this was well.

Just ate this and it was yummy!

I bet it was! I don't think the rule quite works with that because the pork comes under free food so could be the 3 you initially thought? Don't really know how it works! Still, better to over guess than under guess!!

Definitely going to make this next week with the last of my chorizo. Will keep an eye out in Tesco next time for the lower fat chorizo too :)

Thanks for letter me know!
