Why do I keep binging?! :(

#1
I know the obvious answer... because I'm a big fat pig! lol :p

But really, why?! Even when I was 19st I never binged like I do now! About 2 or 3 times a week I'll binge, I don't know what to do any more, there's no stopping me! Never have I been like this in my life and it's really starting to worry me!

Has anyone else been dieting for a very long time and started doing the same thing??

I think I'm going to seek professional help next week, fingers crossed!

i do it regularly,i personally think it could be a personality thing, controll thing maybe? but iv learnt now not to run to laxatives and fad hopeless diets (which it can easily turn that way) and to just get over it and start again,i think the more you start over the more you realise it wasnt worth it,and try not to deprive yourself, have a choccy bar if you want, just count it,write it down and try your best to be good,iv also started drinking pepsi max( tastes better than diet coke) as it tends to fill me up and stop boredem binging,it really has worked for me,yeah okay i get a bit windy but its worth resisting a greasy chinese haha, good luck hunny and i hope i helped xxx

Ah thankyou so much for the reassurance! :) Everyone seems to be so good on here, and I thought I was the only one!

And I'm soooooo glad you said it might be a personality thing! Because I've got OCD and I really think that plays a massive role sometimes with my eating, like I'm not hungry but I need food sometimes, just to "feel right", if you get me? lol

Thankyou for the tip on the diet fizzy drink as well! I might give that a go! :)

Hope all's going well for you??

Thankyou again!! :) xx

its going okay ,but im quite obsessive with food, which is why i think i binge too,its on my mind allll day!! even if im not hungry im thinking about my next meal lol the ocd is probably why you do it,but i think you can overcome it,or at least do it in a way that it doesnt ruin all the weight loss,iv been real good since thursday,so nearly a week, but before then i was just eating for the sake of it,i joke about being able to eat a multi bag of crisps, but its so true !!!! to me its like a black cloud over my head, and im not gonna be happy untill iv eaten loads, its like a mood swing with food!!! another suggestion would be to write down everything you eat,it definatly helps me a lot to stop the binging and make my food obsession more constructive, you'v lost so much weight already, and your doing so well, dont let it get you down hunny xxxx

I'm the same now tbh, throughout WW i've been alright, then the last few months i've started to binge more .. haven't a clue why but i tend to just want to pick at foods a lot, probably cause i'm near the end, don't want it to end, so i'm eating thinking it will take me longer to get to goal lmao so i can keep doing WW for longer... my mind works in weird ways! but ah well we will all get there eventually!

Ahhh Lozzy - you're definitely NOT alone! I was binge eater too. I did it for years on and off and my body has paid the price! When I was building up to a binge, it was like there was an argument going on in my head but the logical voice which said 'don't do it, you'll regret it' got smaller while the voice saying ' go on - one more binge won't hurt - you deserve this' got bigger. When I was stuffing the food in, I felt like I was sticking 2 fingers up at the world and it actually did calm me down but ,after, I felt disgusted and angry with myself.
At the end of the day, I think its definitely a psychological issue based on control and it has nothing to do with being greedy or liking food (although I definitely like food!!!). Its hard to break with something that we feel brings us comfort and its down to sheer guts and determination in the end - and the discovery of something healthier to plug the hole in our lives that bingeing fills. These days, I'd describe myself as an over-eater. I managed to put the brakes on binge eating a few years ago and, so far, its not come back. Try to relax about it and don't beat yourself up. If you can't actually stop it, just try to leave a little bit on your plate each time - like you're taking back a tiny bit of positive control. It definitely helps and, before long, you find yourself leaving more and more on your plate and being proud of having resisted. The feeling of doing something good for yourself is a very positive and persuasive one and it can be the thing that plugs that gap - maybe forever! xxxx

There's lots of really good advice on here. I've not really got much advice myself but you are certainly not alone. When I started dieting I found it easy to be 'good' - but 6 months in I've lost my resolve a bit. I find myself having the same argument in my head that Wannabeelovely described, I can actually tell myself not to do it but I still do. The awful thing is I find myself binging on stuff I don't even like. I tell myself I can't have something I want and then just binge on something which isn't even a treat.

It may sound daft but I've decided to give myself a break from plan. Restricting and obsessing over points, I feel, is making me worse. And my binging/purging is definitely not healthy. Rather than planning points for the whole day, snacks and all, I'm only thinking about healthy meals and just allowing myself snacks. It might not be 'within points' but neither are my binges! I'm just trying to pick healthier options when I snack. Yesterday I still felt like a binge but luckily I had some apples. So I had 3 apples instead.

It's daft isn't it? I wish I could offer you better advice than just 'this is what it's like for me', but hopefully you'll feel better knowing you're not alone!

my advice would be to write everything you eat down, i bought a notebook, and everyday make sure i write everything down that i eat or drink, i take it in my handbag everywhere lol. it really puts me off eating certain things, like if i go to my mums and she has made biscuits, before i would have eaten about 7 throughout the day, but i know there about 4 points each (there massive!!) so thats 24points, i only get 19! and i dont want to write down 7 biscuits! its really helps me to control myself. and i kind of like making the food diary all pretty, with recipes in the back, and goals lol-im a dork!!

nope thats 28 points lol-i can count!

Aww damn those men eh?! lol I think I lost weight because of being without them! :p

You're so right though with those 4 points!! Like you can read my mind

I think I've figured out one of the main reasons why I binge... it's when I'm not in control of the food I buy and the food that's available to me, like I binge when I'm at friend's parties or staying at my Mum's house, it's because it's not my healthy food that I've bought, I just lose control! lol

You must be so proud of all the weigh you've lost! :) How's it all going for you?? Well I hope!! :D x

I definitely agree! A notebook turns out to be your best friend when you're dieting doesn't it? :p *high 5 for the dorkness* lol!
