Basically to keep your metabolism going! Stoking the fire, in other words! Otherwise your weight loss may start to slow down. Adding food, albeit a small amount of food, reignites your metabolism to keep burning fat.

AAMW is not a problem and you won't find that you want to go mad and eat everything in sight.

If you want to skip AAMW you need to get permission from your GP.
