Hi, me again, sorry for all the questions I promise I will try and limit them..

I am on day 2 of the Atkins and have been reading through the recipe section, how do we know if the recipes are suitable for the induction phase or how do I know how many carbs are in any given portion ?

Also am I allowed philadelphia ?

Thanks in advance

Hi Laura, I see you have an iPad so I suugest you get the Carb Manager App.

It has 1000's of stored foods and brands and breaks down not only carbs but fibre, nutrients, calories and more.

I've tried many but this is the best in my opinion. My Fitness Pal comes close second.

Stick with it, once you're past day four or five you've cracked it, enjoys steak, eggs, cream sauces and cheese galore. It's amazing to snack on Pork Scratchings, almost absurd.

Ah, I forgot, I'm sure Philadelphia is ok but they recommend the hard cheeses to begin. Make sure it is the full fat and not low fat as the low fat one may have sugar added

Hi mark,

Thanks for your help, think I will just stick to hard cheeses for the first month then maybe introduce Philly .

Congrats on your loss so far, is that from the Atkins or have done other diets ( if you are anything like me you have probably tried them all )

I will have a look at that app, I have today added my fitness pal, just trying to find my way around it.

Hi Welshlal/bigmark66,

This is my very first post on this site and had the same thoughts about the recipes - how do I know which are for induction? I've ordered the New Atkins Cookbook and am waiting for it to arrive so thought I'd nose around here in the meantime. I love, love, love cheese so this is going to suit me fine :)

I lost 3 stone last year on Cambridge but found it soooo hard living on shakes. Socialising was a nightmare, not that we eat out much but we do visit friends and family a bit and they're always asking us to 'stay for something to eat!'. I'm hoping Atkins is be easier to to deal with knowing I can eat certain things and it's also easier to explain to people.

Good luck on your journey welshlal and congratulations on your great weight loss bigmark66! I'm off to download that app you suggested :)

Just Atkins. It works.

Re the recipes. You can eat any recipes that only has induction foods in it and keep you under 20 carbs for the day.

If you book does not tell you you'll just have to work it out for yourself, don't assume! I have the book and couldn't believe the recipes were not sorted better considering induction is the hard bit!

Bluecat is right - in the beginning it's best to keep it simple - meat, chicken, eggs, fish and leafy green veg - and lots of water.
